Half Price Books Avis 93

They don't even deserve one star. I had a bad experience with very poor customer service at the Half Price Books located at 5417 S Hulen St, Fort Worth, TX 76132 on December 27, 2021 around 7 PM. I wrote online to HPB customer service on Jan. 27, 2021 that evening. I get an email response from the customer service rep Alex acknowledging my complaint. On Jan. 2 and Jan. 4, 22 I wrote back and ask will the DM please contact me? On Jan.5, Alex wrote back to let me know my concerns were forwarded to the DM. On Jan. 8, I emailed HPB and asked them if the DM will respond? They did not email me back. I emailed HPB again on Jan. 18 and they never responded to my email. HPB DM never responded to my complaints. Alex never emailed me back on the status. Basically, my complaint was ignored and finally my emails were ignored when I inquired to them about a response from the DM. I finally wrote a bad review on the BBB and they had the nerve to GASLIGHT me and LIE saying they were "polite and professional?" They were NOT polite and NOT professional. They were downright RUDE and unprofessional. The rude person who works in "customer service" at HPB who responded to my BBB review did not even write his name (because he's an anonymous coward) when he lied about them being polite and professional. They are NOT. These people are RUDE, UNFRIENDLY, fat, and ugly employees who are demonic and who have no business in customer service. It wouldn't surprise me if they were racist deep down inside too since I was treated horribly since I am an Asian-American female.

I took my daughter to the Half Price Books on Broadway to sell them her complete collection of Oz paperback books, plus 2 hardback Oz books in perfect condition, 2 unrelated books in fair condition (1 paperback, 1 hardback). The Oz paperback books were in perfect, unused condition with no scratches, bends or folds...the spines had never even been cracked opem as they were an unread set. The same set is being sold in "good" used condition for $700 online by another thrift store.
However, Half Price Books only paid her $5.61 for ALL the books. Then, they sold the paperback set for $120. That's over 2100% profit made off scamming my daughter.
Do not sell to them!

Zero Stars if possible. The Dallas , Tx, ast. mgr. ( Brian) was of no use whatsever. The question presented to him was, "Where's my order ? " The tracking showed the two products coming from different stores and initally being picked up by DHL Delivery and supposedly handed off to the USPS when it gets close to my home. 12 days to go 500 miles is absurd; whereby the ast. mgr. said, "Not my problem, I"m just a flunkie in a book store; next time pay for better delivery options!" What a crime ! I"d have fired the person on the spot for saying such a thing. Then, when asked to speak with the store manager; the lady said, "You can't talk to me that way and hung up." Another fired employee on the spot ! AVOID THIS COMPANY AND GO ELSEWHERE.. THE FREAKISH BEHAVIOR AND LACK OF COMPANY PROFESSIONALISM IS RAMPANT IN THIS COMPANY. FORE WARNED IS FAIR WARNED.

HALF PRICE BOOKS SENT $1000 PURCHASE OF A COMIC BOOK IN A PAPER ENVELOPE AND REFUSED TO HELP OUT WITH THE DAMAGED CAUSES BY THE POOR SHIPPING!!!! THEN WHEN I OPEN PAYPAL DISPUTE THEY HAD THE USPS POSTAL WORKER NOT SCAN THE ITEM SO PACKAGE NEVER SHOWED DELIVERED!!! AND PAYPAL WONT ISSUE A REFUND!!! WHEN I ASKED DISCOUNT ON AN ITEM TO MAKE UP FOR $1000 LOSS 100% DUE TO THEM AND THEIR POOR PACKAGING THEY REFUSED TO DO BUSINESS!! CLAIMING I WAS TO RUDE TO CUSTOMER SUPPORT!!! WHEN IT 100% FAULT AND NEVER GOT TO NASTY JUST UPSET ID BE OUT 1K!!!!
THEY LITERALLY STOLE $1000 FROM ME!!!! DO NOT TRUST OR DO BUSINESS THIS STORE!!!!!

Scam. Bought several very good condition books but what I got could be easily found in a dumpster. After complaining they essentially said: "yeah, we don't care. Here are 10% off now get lost".

Having spent thousands of dollars over the past few years and being a loyal customer, I find myself not wanting to go back. Taking books into sell, because I am in a current financial hardship and them not even coming close to giving me what they are worth is a massive insult. I had to take the money because I have no other choice right now and the lack of compassion by some of the staff just put a massive bad taste in my mouth. Of course I am biased because I know the worth of the items I brought in, yet I think they would not know true value if it bit them in the ass. What a joke. I do not have any plans on buying anything from them again when I get back on my financial feet. I am sure they won't loose any sleep or care about my review, but whenever asked about them in the future I will not say good things.

DO NOT buy from this seller.

First you pay for a product and they displace blame when the package is not delivered to the correct place.

They also think so poorly of their customers that someone would lie about not receiving their package for 10$.

I ordered a looney toons golden age vol 6 dvd set in very good condition. It said my package was delivered, I looked, my husband looked, and two of my children looked ALL OVER. The mailbox, the tote we have for larger packages at the bottom of our driveway since we live in a rural area, and around the house/property.

NO package, I contact the seller and they tell me it's there check with your neighbors, other apartments etc or contact usps an talk to the delivery manager.

This is very much their job, my neighbors are miles apart out here. It is not their job nor is it mine to do this businesses job or usps job.
Fortunately one neighbor I have never met and do not know where they live, came to my home this afternoon and DID bring it to me, it was sealed, I was happy and relieved and ABOUT to message the seller when I decided to open it first.

The UNOPENED package, I opened, then proceeded to open the case. Annn there were NO DVDs, a completely empty case so obviously this seller is a liar, a thief, and VERY shady.

Let us get to MORE shoddy behavior now,

Lo and behold they have ANOTHER very good used copy of the SAME dvd suddenly at a HIGHER price listed. Just a coincidence right? Doubtful.

Again, AVOID, and DO NOT do business with this company they steal your money, send you an empty case and then relist the product at a higher price to likely con someone ELSE and send THEM an empty case as well.

Amazon has contacted the seller and I am waiting for a response at this time.

If you have good quality used books to sell, run from half price books location, they will accuse you of stolen books and ask for proof of purchase, they will have you come in and sit just to tell you you’re banned for bring in good quality books, either they low on funds or just plan out racist, but I’m glad I found a total different book store that wouldn’t give me a hassle on the books I’m bringing in and accusing me on stealing books because I come in a lot to sell used books, I rather not deal with half price books store ever again, I’ll take my business else where.

Spent over a hour waiting for their staff to make me an offer. Got $15.00 for 3 boxes of books including signed books, 5 HC Sue Grafton's ABC murders, antique and current books. Waste of time

Ordered a textbook through Abe Books (wonderful company) and the seller was HPB. The book was a great deal but shipping to me (I'm currently in Mexico) was about $40 for the upgraded "faster" service. Well, ordered in August and it's now October and the book has been stuck in customs for over a month. I realize shipping issues aren't HPB issue but their response to me about getting any help has been abysmal and it appears no one is actually reading my emails. Canned email responses from HPB - telling me how to track the item and to contact my local postal service to work out the issue. I paid $40+ shipping on a $5 textbook I needed in September. HPB being the shipper can file a claim through DHL and get their shipping costs covered (that's how insurance works for shipping items but they seem to think now that they've shipped the item it's out of their hands). It's not HPB's fault the shipper had an issue, but the way I've been given the runaround is telling about their company. A note as well: I did contact my local postal shipping service a while back and I was told that since the book hasn't been delivered to me it's not technically my item but still belongs to the shipper and that the shipper would need to file a report so they can look into the issue. So to everyone who is being told to contact your postal service - at least here in Mexico - you will be told you cannot file a claim for a lost item because you are not the shipper/owner - so HPB would need to do this (which they won't because they know it would be useless and waste of their time).

I ordered a book online and it was shipped via US postal service. I checked the tracking number provided in the order details and it stated the item was delivered. However, I did not receive the book. I contacted HPB customer service via email and they said that the item was received and they have proof of it and that I needed to check with neighbors if they have it. Or to call US postal service. I am not going to do that. It’s HPB to have a policy on how to deal with these issues. So, it seems their policy is to say thank you for the money and we are sorry you did not get the item. What a poor customer service policy!

I ordered a book for one of my college classes. I ordered it on 8/28 and received it today Sep 2. I paid to receive it 2-6 business days. I only spent 12 dollars for it and at Walmart it’s 40. I recommend!

I will not sell my books to them again. They give you nothing for books they will sell with a huge mark up. I'd rather take my books to Goodwill or any other thrift shop for donation, It is not worth the effort,time and gas to go to Half Price Books anymore.

Went to the warehouse sale in Westchester Ohio. What a disappointment. The last one we attended was at the conference center in Sharonville. This was nothing close to that two little rooms and so many people you couldn't even look at anything.

Ordered a 21 CD program with workbook, three separate guides, clamshell case and other materials. What I got was the workbook alone, worth about $5 on the open market, when I paid $200 via Amazon. What A TOTAL RIPOFF. WHO MISSES THE FACT THAT IF YOU'RE SELLING A PROGRAM WITH 21 CDS THAT YOU ACTUALLY HAVE TO DELIVER THEM??? TOTAL BAIT AND SWITCH, OR JUST UTTER STUPIDITY BY THIS SO-CALLED BOOKSELLER. THE WORST.

I went to Half Price Books, found a book I wanted and checked out. I am unable to drive, I travel by bus and I had other stops to make and didn't want to carry the book around in the open so I asked for a bag. I was told they didn't give bags anymore, but they'd sell me one for $1.99.This is a company which did over $250 million in sales last year and they're too cheap to give their customers a .05 cent bag? I refuse to do business with any company that rips off their customers like that, so I asked for a refund. They asked me for a phone number. I have worked in retail for over 40 years and I know a phone number is not needed for a refund and said so. I was told "We can't issue a refund without a phone number." I left and when I got home filed a complaint with the BBB. They responded admitting that they do have bags they can give customers and that they can issue a refund without a phone number, do I was lied to twice. Then they turned around and lied to me again by saying they don't keep the information needed to issue refunds on file. again, over 40 years retail experience and I have never seen a POS system that didn't keep that info on file. Besides, they had the receipt, I left it, all they would have had to do is void the sale.

I am done with HPB. Today I went to the Northwest Hwy store to sell books. I was told I could not take a cart to unload the car before I got into line to be waited on. Once I had the attendant and the cart, I unloaded and was told it would be an hour and a half wait and I had to physically be in the store for the entire time. When my name was called, I went to go collect my money and was told I had to go to the back of the line again. When I expressed surprise, since that has never been the case before, I was rudely told by the attendant that they had no intention of sweeping all the other customers aside for my benefit. I had four boxes, half of which were hardbacks and was given only $12. You're making a fortune off people like me. When did you decide we were scum to be picked clean and verbally abused and treated like cattle?

Place is a ripoff to the highest degree. Took a massive amount of dvds and blue ray dvds only to get 27 measily dollars. Looked at how much they sell their dvds for which was 5 bucks on up. Don't take your stuff there. You will be disappointed for sure. Then when I went to get paid the dude doesn't even have a 20 dollar bill in the cash register drawer. He gives me 5 dollar bills for change. Just stressed me out all and all. I super hate the place. Bunch thieves. Seriously Don't go there. They will rip you. customer service with no smile.

I called 5/6/23 to verify that item was in stock...I was told that it was....Item was slated to be received between 5/12-5/29 I received item on 5/15/23. NO COMPLAINTS HERE ...just 5 stars *****

They are a scam and a rip off. Never take your books there for sale!
I worked for 3 days at ~ 50 cents per hour sorting through ~ 500 of my decesed brother's books. He had business, health, espionage, love - relationship, marketing, JFK hard cover, flynn, Tom Clancy, Accounting and many more topics etc.
I narrowed the list down to 17 cube boxes for about 340 books. I had to waite 3.5 hours for them to record the books. Average new price for these books would have been ~ $ 20 ( conservatively low ) and they "OFFERED" ME $ 94 or 27 cents per book ( I honestly think it should have been $ 940 but the guy at the counter just said take it or leave it. What was I supposed to do? Take them all back? If they sell them for $ 1 each, that is a 400% mark up from their purchase price! While I was waiting I checked out some Tom Clancy books that were on their shelf and the were priced at ~ $5 for small paperback. That is an 1800 % mark up from the price they paid me. Many of the books were in new condition and many more were in good condition.
