Half Price Books Avis 93

I went here to sell my books. I sold three in good condition. I got two dollars. Don't go here. They take your money and give you nothing. Some of the pages in my book are highlighted. They also were talking about the books I sold in poor light. They were in ok condition. I would suggest Amazon. I have a family who uses to get 2 dollars a book a couple of years ago. Now its bad custer service and worse prices.

Terrible customer service. 2 months waiting for my product and when I contacted them they disappeared, not replying back or anything. Unbelievable behavior.

Expensive prices and ridiculous shipping rates. You can't use a credit card with a gift certificate. I was over by 2 cents on a gift card order, therefore, I would have to pay with a credit card. They're getting the gift card balance for free. Never buying from them again, they suck!

I have bought hundreds of books from HPB's over the last 10 years many of the latest mysteries to many Westerns and Mountain man books such as the Sackett series. All my books are in good to excellent condition. In the past few days sorted out 130 books out of my collection and drove to HPB's. I first went through the Western section and books ranging from about $3.00 to $5.00! Then I brought in my neat collection in they called my name in about 15 minutes and offered $3.30 for $130 books ALL of which I bought at HPB!!! Thats about 2cents a book!
Will never buy again from this bunch!!!

I ordered from this lame company via AbeBooks. I've used AbeBooks for over 10 years and have NEVER had a problem with ANY of the many books I've purchased, until using Half Price Books as the seller. On 11-20-22 I ordered a Quad Edition of the LDS scriptures in Leather & large print. The site showed this book in stock, so I ordered it. Yesterday (11-28-22), my order came and it was a Triple Combination of LDS scriptures paperback in large print. This unwanted book is 11" tall/8 3/4" wide and must weight around 2 lbs. I now have to go wait in line at the post office while everyone is shipping Christmas packages. The shipping cost will be super high. I'm hoping AbeBooks is honest and has this dirtbag company refund not only my $36.35 order charge, but the return shipping cost, too. They don't supply a return label, either. I will never trust Half Price Books again. I would say their service is half-baked to the max! Book companies: if you list a book as in stock, but it really isn't, DO NOT substitute other books. Just use your brains and refund the customer, so they don't have to go to the hassle of returning a book they didn't order, end up being disappointed, and then, have to wait for refunds that you hope are honest.

I ordered a book from this seller through Abe Books (whom I've had no problems with). Be warned that if you have a problem with this outfit your problem will not be addressed quickly (3 days for me) and you'll get a standard, boilerplate response telling you it's your problem, not theirs, so contact the post office. Customer service is basically non-existent.

Mislead the buyer: the good condition of a used book to be torn out.

Once again the incompetent faux booksellers at HalfPrice sent me a book that was inaccurately described. This, of course, is a mark of commodity aestheticism, bookselling incompetence, and outright fraud. The book was ex-library though this was, of course, not noted, as is HalfPrice's tendency since they are to lazy to do anything other than cut and paste descriptions.

Since I don't have a printer I can't print the return label and I can't copy it and send it to someone to do it for me. The incompentents at HalfPrince, of course, want me to pay a dollar for a prepaid return label so I can return a book I would never have bought if It had been accurately described. I will no longer be buying books at Half Price something I have done since the 1980s. Up yours HalfPrice and good riddance. I will be reporting you to the NY AG.

I was a Security Contractor there at the Tacoma store and endured ENDLESS harasment based on my Religion and political leanings.
Im a Hetero Christian Man.
Particularly from a cashier called "mimi" she regularly derided my faith and ultimately had me fired maliciously.
Management was also unsupportive and possibly envious of my physique and heterosexuality.

Don't sell your books here... They will buy your book very cheap... even though it is in a very well condition like new. Sell it by yourself thru ebay or fb market.

This could have been a 5-star review. Great staff. Very good selection. But the company’s trade practices are unacceptable. Today I took in ten books and was given four dollars and some change for them. I was told, “The system pays what it pays.” Then I was told they don’t buy Book of the Month Club books because BOTM members don’t pay full price for the book but usually want full price for trade. Excuse me? You can’t set the system to account for an entire category of books? Additionally, the shelves are FULL of BOTM club books. They are marked at half price of the full hardback price. So customers cannot get credit for them because they aren’t bought at full price, but the company can sell them that way? This is worse than a double standard. It is disadvantageous to customers. Maybe set the book prices at $7.50 (since membership is $15) and then buy accordingly. Not a hard solution. Never mind the other books I took in were by Stephen King, Toni Morrison, and John Grisham. These books all sold for $4-$15 a piece on the shelves. They took all of them for $4. Then I saw a “nostalgic paperback” of a novel that was printed in the UK in 2019. Because it was mass market by Toni Morrison I guess you can trick people. Seriously will not be back to this store ever again. Absolutely terrible company policies.

I took 5 collectable books & 5 hardback books. Offered me $1.00 for all. I said I would throw them away first. Ridiculous. Of course they offered to "recycle" them for me. I told the very rude clerk that now I understand. They insult you with the price then get them free. No. I will never go back. Been shopping there over 20 years. Have always spent way more than they gave me on any books. Just a sleepy joint now. Don't need them.

HPB is ok to buy, but do not pay much when you sell.

I went to the store to get a book that I saw in Amazon, I though the price of the book was going to be half price but it was 3 dollars less then the one from amazon. I am not sure why they call them self Half price. For sure was not half price.

At my local Half Price store, I sold them three items - 2 DVDs and a book. They paid me $0.50 in total. That's much less than the value of just one of the items.

Take your business elsewhere. Half Price Books will scam you out of your hard-earned money and do nothing to help their customers.

I ordered a book in brand new condition from Half Price Books. It never arrived. I contacted customer service twice over the course of a week and a half and received a reply long after they promised I would receive one. In the reply, they offered no solutions or reparations in regards to the book that I paid for but never received. I sent another email in reply and still have not heard back.

This place reeks of scummy business practices.

I ordered a book through Abebooks. HPB filled the order but sent me the wrong book. I contacted them about getting a refund. They said send back the book and we will put a refund on your credit card. I sent the book back and waited till I got confirmation from UPS that they received the book. No refund. I waited a few more days and called their customer service number. Not really a customer service number, just a recording that says work the issue through the website. Sent an email through the website and got a computer generated response saying a representative will get back with you within two business days. Days go by and no response from a representative. Still no refund. I just sent another email but feel like I'm wasting my time. All told they bilked me out of $36, plus the time and hassle of sending the book back. Pretty good scam. I have gone back to Abebooks to work the issue, but so far they seem uninterested as well. Let the little guy pay for our mistake.

On August 30, 2021 I bought a book from HPB for $19.99 plus $2 shipping. They mailed me some random paperback from the 99c cutout bin, instead of the book I actually ordered.
After much back & forth, many Emails and wasting lots of time, they decided it was absolutely necessary for me to send the garbage they mailed me back to them, at my expense (another $13.00 in postage). Even though they signed for their package and I received Confirmation of Shipment from USPS, they refuse to acknowledge that they got it and keep asking me to send a picture of the same Confirmation, over and over. Then they ignore me until I contact them again, in which case we go around in another circle. Bottom line is: If you order anything from HPB, they'll send you trash and then hide behind the internet in order to ignore you indefinitely and fraudulently keep your money.
10/5/21- A dozen or so Emails & 2 or 3 phone calls later, still no resolution.

They bought a book from me for 2.50 it’s now there for sale for 125.00. It’s not right.

I was interested in buying an audio drama from their website in July 2021 listed at $9.99. Format was listed as CD/Spoken Word, and the picture was for a 2 CD set. That price seemed too good to be true, and that's exactly what happened. What I received was a cassette, and it was only 1 cassette out of 2. Was not at all pleased item was misrepresented. I then wasted $4.95 to ship the cassette back, and the refund took much longer than stated.

HPB will also not publish the 1 star review I left for the product on the website, so the next unsuspecting customer could avoid getting something in an undesirable format.

I will shop in their stores where I can examine merchandise, but will not order from their website again.
