Iceland Holidays Avis 42

Iceland was amazing, Iceland Holidays were not. Took £400 for airport transfers costing about £300, promised a reduction in writing when I challenged the mark up but it was never received and it took a month to refund cancelled bus transfers, only did this when local radio intervened.
Charged us for both hold and cabin bags but only cabin bags booked, no refund paid.
Didn't book return taxi to the airport, I paid £140 to get us there, has not refunded the £200 we paid.
One excursion had secret lagoon on our invoice; we didn't go there.
Still owes us almost £400 and has been very stressful.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! Iceland is an incredible place and well worth the visit. This company were the worst part of it. We used them in August 2025 and they were still arranging our accommodation whilst we were at the airport waiting to fly out! Since we have returned we have been charged by the car hire company AGAIN as they are stating the hire was never paid. I have been chasing icelandholidays.com for weeks via email and phone calls to obtain proof of payment and they have not even had the courtesy to respond at all which makes me believe they have NOT paid the car hire company and have essentially stolen my money. The Icelandic people are incredibly helpful and you can easily arrange a holiday yourself. DO NOT USE ICELANDHOLIDAYS.COM

Beware pricing mark up!! We have recently travelled to Iceland through Icelandholidays.com and whilst away became aware of at least 30/40% mark up charged on Hotel, Transport and Excursions. We were even charged £100 for my son who was free!!
The trip was totally disorganised.. daily calls to organise events, the hotel didn’t have our booking, requiring us to go elsewhere. Would have been easier and cheaper to do ourselves. Sadly the huge premium did not take the stress out of our holiday!!

Gareth booked our honeymoon to Iceland and it was fantastic. From start to finish he took care of every detail. We would highly recommend booking through Iceland Holidays to make the most of your trip. Thanks Gareth!

Pressurised me into paying deposit and then put the price up by £2k. Promised to send a refund and then ghosted me. Don’t go anywhere near this company.

Gareth helped us to put together an amazing holiday in Iceland, he spent time suggesting which were the best excursions & places to visit.

Gareth is extremely attentive and helpful. The holiday was amazing and allowed us the opportunity to explore the South West of Iceland under our own steam, but with lovely hotels and a clear itinerary.

We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in Iceland. Flybus and Reykjavik tours are very well organised.I would strongly recommend any prospective customers to research their trip carefully before hand. Some of the excursions are quite long days.
Gareth was available on the phone during our trip for any questions and queries.
The hotel viking , although 20 mins from Reykjavík was clean and comfortable with good food and a natural spring hot tub .
The room was a little small but adequate.

The holiday was a great experience, unfortunately one of our excursions was cancelled and having emailed and spoken to Gareth, we have still not received our money back. We arrived back from our holiday in mid November. Very poor indeed.

We had just the best holiday organised by Gareth. Such a friendly guy and always replies to any concerns or emails really quickly! Everything was perfect when we arrived in Iceland, all coach tours were expecting us and everything ran really smoothly! Thank you so much Gareth!

The flights were both on time and everything ran very smoothly in that area. The car hire was also good - the car was just the right sort of car for what we needed and we had no issues there either.

The Hotel Odinsve in Reykyavik was fine although the rooms were small but perfectly adequate for one night.

The Hotel Varmaland, on the Snaefellsnes peninsula, was lovely - definitely the best hotel of the trip. The food in the restaurant at Varmaland was also very good - as were the black-out curtains! Our day on the Snaefellsnes peninsula was great; Arnastapi was an unexpectedly great spot for bird watching - the cliffs were teeming with bird life there and we even spotted a whale out to sea.

The Hotel Fludir was also nice and we enjoyed the geothermal hot tubs there. The hotel restaurant food was good. We also found a great Ethiopian restaurant across the road from the Hotel (it's called Minilik) which provided a very welcome change to the usual Icelandic cuisine. We enjoyed all of the Golden Circle experiences, waterfalls and geysers but I think our favourite was the Thingvellir National Park.

The Hotel Dyrholaey was in a great location and the puffin spotting out on the Dyrholaey peninsula was the highlight of the holiday. The hotel itself was a bit basic although the rooms were very spacious.

On the whole this was a well-organised trip and we loved Iceland.

Hotels were excellent, including the food, we had an upgrade of car, and were able to choose how much we did and in what time. Extraordinary place to go especially if you go off the main tourist roads.

Extremely helpful staff. It was a last minute booking, touring the whole island. All hotels where good and well located. A very useful map and guidebook were provided with our itinerary. I would definitely use this company again.

The first time I visited Iceland in March 2009 (just after the financial crisis) was with Iceland holidays for a fly/drive holiday that went very well, at -6C the snow blew over the road like sand. So when it was time to visit the Glaciers again I wanted to use Iceland Holidays because of the complete package of flights, car, hotels they arrange for you. I'm really glad I did because I was originally going to visit Reykjavik again in March 2020 but then, well you know what happened! Iceland Holidays did everything necessary to postpone it to October 2020 , then March 2021, then March 2022 because "How long could the pandemic last?" Changing the Iceland Air flights, car hire and many separate nights in different hotels seemed effortless for them but would have been a real nightmare if I'd tried to organise it myself. I'd almost given up hope that the world would get back to some sort of normal but then in Feb 2022 Iceland announced "back to normal". It was a wonderful trip just as I'd hoped two years ago, everything went as planned, and I achieved all my goals for the trip getting some amazing photos with some clear days with > 10 miles visibility, but also some ferocious winds with -20C chill factor during the first part that makes your soul want to leave your body behind. Icelandic people and infrastructure came up trumps. The 4G mobile signal was faultless even at waterfalls and endless (yes really) black sand beaches miles from anywhere. The signal back at home in my house isn't that good! So messaging friends and posting photos was a breeze on the road. I can't wait to go back again but this time I won't leave it 10-13 years. Oh and yes in the past 13 years by my calculations of distance and pixels on a camera sensor the glaciers seem to have reduced their height by about 10m per year and retreated back by about 100m per year. There are still some very impressive Vatnajokull glacial tongues sticking out of the mountains (Think of The Rolling Stones Sticky Fingers album but in grey rock and blue/white ice) as it takes you 2 days to travel past the biggest glacier on the European continental shelf.

We have recently returned from a fly drive holiday to Iceland organised by Iceland Holidays. We had a superb time. Iceland is such a beautiful country, but don't go expecting a 'shorts and T shirt holiday '. All the hotels were good and included breakfast. Our favourite hotel was the Hotel Geyser at Geyser- where else could you watch a geyser erupting from your dinner table. All aspects of the holiday were extremely well organised by Iceland Holidays and I would thoroughly recommend them.

We decided late to do Iceland so contacted Iceland Holidays in early June. Their website seemed to offer more options than using our usual mainstream agent. Sent a brief around what we wanted and Gareth came back with a number of options of airports and nights. We eventually picked an eight night ring road self drive tour leaving end of June. Our thanks to Gareth for arranging our holiday at such short notice and at the busiest time of the year in Iceland. We had a good experience in the land of Ice, Fire, Wind and Rain but would suggest adding extra nights around the golden circle, Skaftafell National Park and in the North East around Husavik/Akureyri. We are in our 70s so the one night stays in hotels began to tell as well as some bad weather which drowned plans. Adding extra days which Gareth had suggested would have proved a more relaxed drive and flexibility around bad weather.
Otherwise an adventure not to be missed. Thank you Iceland Holidays for all arrangements and providing the Lonely Planet Book for the Ring Road Road Trip, invaluable.
