They charged me TWO AND A HALF MORE the advertised cost and then wouldn't let me unsubscribe nor cancel my subscription (their payment cancellation process ONLY allows you to pause the subscription and the max pause is 2 months).

After a free month of premium I was charged $25US and only got the Premium (the premium is $10US a month or $6US a month with the current 40% saving) while the Premium Plus is $23USD a month (or $14.73USD with current special).

So not only have I paid more than two and a half more for the current level but I've also been charged more than the "upgraded"/ highest level they have offered!

In regards to not being able to cancel the subscription: No matter if you choose Yes to pausing the subscription or NO to pausing the subscription the next question is ALWAYS "How long do you want to pause the subscription".

I just sent them an email asking for a refund (they say they have a 60 day money back promise - you clearly can't trust this website but let's see if they can at least be truthful about that).

Beware of Unauthorized Charges by Japanesepod101

I had a disappointing experience with Japanesepod101 that I feel compelled to share. Initially, I was attracted to the service's promise of comprehensive Japanese language learning resources. Unfortunately, the reality did not meet my expectations, prompting me to cancel my subscription.

The real issues began after cancellation. Japanesepod101 withdrew money from my account without my authorization. Despite numerous attempts to resolve this matter, including formal requests for a refund, the response from their support team has been unsatisfactory. They have neither returned the unauthorized charges nor provided a clear explanation for the continued billing.

This has been a great way for practicing my listening skills. I have listened to tens of hours of lessons. You will need to supplement this with other learning methods, because they don't really do in-depth grammar explanations.

I am a subscriber since 2015, I used a discount code (they always do promotions) to have Premium subscription that I renewed every 2years. Since then I enjoy listening to audio lessons, while working or driving car. PDF material is also A LOT and very useful! Japanesepod101.com audio lessons are fun because they use everyday language for every situation, formal or informal, so I improved my listening skills in real life situations. Since January 2023 I started Live Lesson course, with Premium Plus subscription included, and THIS REALLY BOOSTED MY SPEAKING ABILITY! I follow pathways and all now is well organized to improve my abilities. Now I can even start to understand TV shows in Japanese! It is a gradual process, but I can really say that my japanese now is 10times better then 8 months ago! I completed 2 courses, I'm going to do the 3rd soon! I also think that they offer this online course at a value price, compared to other online courses. I really recommend japanesepod101.com!

They use false marketing like "Download a free book by signing up to the platform" and guess what, there is no free ebook, instead they ask you for a paid subscription which includes the book they advertised. Deceiving people by false marketing is already a red flag for me!

Wonderful customer service, wonderful course, everything about it, Amazing!

Very good content, with lots of podcasts, videos, exercises... on just about everything through different learning paths and tools.
For all levels, in a fun atmosphere.

Silently charged me for the wrong subscription, and then refused to refund me, despite me not using the service.
