One of the best things I have ever done was go to outset! The counselors were so motivational and also really helpful. They were all in premed, so they told me kind of how their path went. I learned so much from them. Also some of the friendships I made there are so strong and I’m so grateful. Outset really helped me understand how to structure my future.

My daughter just attended Outset UCLA Pediatric track. She went in with an open mind, as her primary choice was neurosurgeon. She now expressed a genuine interest in Pediatric Neurosurgeon. Thank you to all the counselors, instructors, physicians, Cedar Sinai, and Outset for providing her and other attendees with such an enriching experience. She cannot wait for next year's program!

My daughter just finished up her week at UNC. She absolutely loved the experience from letures, sessions and hands on stimulation. She was advised on how to safe on the path of becoming a Pharmacist. She meet new friends and new experiences that will last a lifetime. This is her dream school and she a first look on what it would be like.

From my perspective as a parent, the sign-up process and overall communication with Outset were fantastic. Lawson and his team were incredibly responsive to any questions or concerns I had, and I truly appreciated how understanding and supportive they were throughout the entire process.

As for our daughter’s experience, she shared with us how much she and her fellow Outset participants enjoyed their time — to the point that she didn’t want to leave on the final day. She found the programs and activities to be incredibly inspiring, especially because they were so hands-on and engaging. She also really valued the opportunity to stay in the dorms, which added to the overall college-like experience.

This program was absolutely worth the investment, and I’m thrilled that my daughter — now entering her senior year for the 2025–2026 school year — had the chance to attend Outset. It’s given her valuable exposure and a broader perspective on the medical field.

My daughter had a great experience at UNC. Her counselor was great and she truly enjoyed the simulations and the friendships she created. She’s looking to forward to next year.

The Outset staff was extremely helpful throughout the camp. My daughter had a medical situation and I was so thankful for their prompt attention, consistent communication, and continued care of her the entire week. This is the second medical camp my daughter has attended and she shared how through Outset she was able to do many more simulations which was her favorite part of the camp. Overall it was a great experience and we would highly recommend this to any teenager considering a career in the medical field.

My daughter had an amazing and an enriching experience at Columbia. Thanks to the wonderful team of Outset. She has not stopped talking about it. She loved everything about the program and how helpful everyone was.
To start with, I was a bit skeptical and very concerned, as my daughter has not traveled by herself this far and for this long but I am so glad she was adamant and did this program. She loved every minute of it.
This review is for all the moms like me, who are bit confused.

My son went to Chapel Hill last week for the Anesthesia course. He loved the experience. It solidified in his mind about his career path. Thanks for providing this experience.

What an amazing experience for our daughter. She chose general surgery because they didn’t offer dermatology but it let her explore a different track and expand her interests.
Would highly recommend.

My daughter went to Outset at UNC Chapel Hill this summer. She absolutely loved it! It was the perfect combination of fun, learning, making new friends, and exploring UNC pre-med and medical school programs. Her chosen specialty was pediatrics, and Outset helped her explore what a "day in the life of a pediatrician" looks like, as well as what it takes to get through medical school. The peds group bonded tightly and I think will stay in touch well beyond this camp. Highly recommend Outset to anyone with a high-schooler considering going into the medical field. I wish they had this for all college majors!

went to the unc location, would not recommend. activities were super limited due to the minor protection acts, hands on activities were non existent. from a 7:30am-11:00pm day, about 4 1/2 hours were spent on ACTUAL medical stuff. last day was cut entirely for kids who had to take a bus to the airport.

Outset was an incredible experience. I gained hands-on exposure to various medical fields, worked alongside people who had the same passion for medicine as I do, and connected with peers who share my interests. The workshops were engaging while also being fun, and the environment was both supportive and inspiring. I left more confident in my path toward a career in healthcare.

Our daughter attended the Outset program at Columbia and she had an unforgettable experience! She was not sure about medicine as her future career, but this program helped her fall in love with it. The activities, simulations, and lectures were great. She also learned a great deal about what she needs to do when applying to medical school. It was her first time at an overnight program, so we were unsure about it. However, she had an amazing experience. She was busy from morning until night, her counselor was extraordinary, and she met new friends. She is looking forward to next year!.

Our daughter attended the UNC Outset 2025 program. She loved it and really appreciate the what the program provided. It was a long day everyday but that didn't seem to face her. She enjoyed the mix of classes, simulation, campus tour, and around the town exploring. Having the specific track aligning with what she was looking to study was very nice as well. Being able to hear from real-life anesthesiologist was a highlight. It seems like the program could be 2 weeks long :) The staff was great. The process to sign up was straightforward and as a parent, I appreciate the communication throughout leading up to the start of the program. One thing that might be helpful is more media advertisement. I'm not sure how I found it in the first place. Happy that I did and it'll be great for others to see and join the program. Highly recommended!

Incredible hands-on, informative and very insightful week! A nice view into the process of training to become a doctor with engaging staff from residents to attendings. Plus a lot of fun on top of it all. Would absolutely send anyone I know who is interested in medicine to a week of camp with Outset.

My daughter left the UNC Outset yesterday and I’ve never seen her happier. Thank you for the limited phone use and no group chats. She felt she had an authentic opportunity to get to know her group and loved everything, from the sessions to the evening events. She is walking away from this experience with ideas on pathways for college, newfound confidence, and new friends.

The drop off was seamless and well organized. The pick up email said 3-5pm but when I showed, almost everyone was gone but my daughter. She said they started leaving at 2pm. A little disheartening. As for the activities, they were busy from 8am till 1015pn daily making for a long day. The learning portion was very general and some things were common sense or Google found. They discussed stats of MCAT scores and how many doctors there are in the neuro field currently. There was not alot of information on the actual neuro field except from 1 neurosurgeon that spoke, which she was knowledgeable and very helpful! Other programs offer a showing of a surgery that I believe are beneficial and allows the students to ask questions as they go. We hoped for alot more insight on point of contracts, what the internship looks like, more information regarding the upcoming technology, when and how to apply for colleges in a particular field, what to look for overall, and just more in depth information on neurosurgery.

Our daughter attend the UNC outset program. She thoroughly enjoyed it. While she wants to do be a PA in Dermatology, they didn’t have a PA or Dermatology specific program yet (she recommended!), she still learned so much and had the best time meeting new friends. The fun activities in the evening was wonderful too. She stayed so busy and truly loved it. She is looking forward to returning next year if they have a PA or dermatology track.

Our daughter just attended camp with Outset at UCLA and learned so much from the lectures and hands on simulations. Since it was her first overnight camp she’s ever gone to, we were worried she might get homesick, but she forgot all about us after we dropped her off! She was busy from morning ‘til night. She came out of the camp with an understanding of what to expect when applying for med school, taking the MCAT and what med school would be like. The camp was very well organized and we’re glad our daughter got the opportunity to experience it.

I sent my son to the Outset experience at UNC. I followed the Facebook group hoping for pictures, but I didn’t see any. I took that as my sign to start preparing for him to go away to college. My son returned from Outset with wonderful stories about his team, counselors, and faculty. I feel like I won the lottery by finding Outset! My son is already excited to go to an alumni event. Thank you for providing such a positive experience!
