You gave me a quote of 1,400 for six months. When I entered my credit card, you charged me 1,558.00. When I called an hour later to cancel, you said you were charging me 50.00 processing. contract was sent while I was on hold with your agent. I had recommended your company to a very close friend, but when I found out your true value, I let him know you were a fraud.

I’ve had a frustrating experience with Root Insurance. The biggest issue is their customer service. It feels almost nonexistent. When you do reach someone, they are not warm, helpful, or willing to actually assist with resolving problems. The interactions come across as dismissive and unhelpful, which makes an already frustrating situation worse.
Another major issue is the app functionality. The app does not seem properly optimized for modern smartphones with minimal bezels (such as newer Google Pixel or iPhone models). Text boxes and input fields often do not resize correctly to the screen, which makes it difficult to type or even see what you are entering. This creates a very poor user experience when trying to manage your policy.
To make matters worse, most insurance-related actions appear to be restricted to the app. The website itself is extremely limited and does not allow you to make many of the changes or manage your policy the way you would expect. If the app worked well this might be manageable, but since it has usability issues, it makes handling basic tasks unnecessarily difficult.
Lastly, the pricing does not seem to justify these shortcomings. Root markets itself as a cheaper alternative, but in my experience the cost is not noticeably lower than larger, more established insurance companies like Allstate or State Farm. Given the service and usability issues, it’s hard to see the value.

It's been 12 days since I submitted my auto accident claim. After determining that the other driver was at fault, the claim agent sent me to the appraiser, who immediately told me to pay my deposit in order to get my vehicle fixed. I was sent a payment link. I thought this was odd, so I talked with my family and looked for answers online. Everything I read said that it's not normal for you to pay your deposit when it's determined that the other driver is at fault.
So I then emailed my claims adjuster and I asked why I was responsible for my deductible if it was determined that I was not at fault. She did not reply. I have contacted her repeatedly over 12 days via phone, email, and I can't reach them. When I called customer service on the 11th day, I expressed my concerns calmly and emphasized that I was worried, not angry. The agent quickly became very frustrated and impatient with me. His voice became louder and antagonistic. He sounded both angry and stressed. It was intimidating and unpleasant. He said that the claims adjuster was busy and would call me within 1-2 business days, depending on caseload. He also said that just because I wasn't at fault didn't mean that my premiums wouldn't go up. He said he could not provide a reference number for the conversation, but assured me that he was "taking notes". He only provided his first name and last initial.
I'm so stressed that I will have to pay my deductible and my insurance will be penalized for an accident where I was deemed not at fault. I will be leaving this company as soon as this issue is resolved. It's been a nightmare.

Root doesn’t reward safe drivers — they trap you with a low quote, then demand surveillance or a penalty.
I paid my 6-month premium upfront, refused to install their tracking app, and only after payment learned: if you don’t complete their 30-day “test drive,” your rate goes up — guaranteed.
They call it a “potential discount,” but it’s a lie.
No app? $72/month increase — handed down like a fine. I didn’t cause an accident.
Didn’t get a ticket. Didn’t even drive more. I just said no to being watched.
When I called customer service — the only way to access my insurance card — I was told flat out: better use the app, or pay more. That’s not insurance. That’s extortion.
They hide this penalty in fine print, make you pay first, then punish you for protecting your privacy.
No transparency. No appeal. Just a jump in price for not letting them mine your every move.
Avoid Root. They don’t care about your driving — they care about your data.
And if you don’t hand it over, they’ll make you pay for it.

I don’t usually leave reviews but this Root app that helps you find the best quote insurance is one of the best at 1st I was skeptic about it bc root was a silly name I gave it a try and best decision I’ve made in a year or 2. Give them a try major insurance companies jack up prices but root kept it sweet & simple. Thanks Root

after shopping around for auto insurance, I came across Root. It was by far, for me, cheaper than any I previously searched. Thanks

If I could give no stars, I would. It upsets me that I was approved for a policy, and upon going I yo the app to set it up, the system told me that you all could not help me after id already paid $350. In turn, I had to obtain another policy same day as requested, but ended up having to spend another $400 to set that policy up.

I can’t stress enough how annoying it is to offer service to people and not have anybody a customer service number to contact. I have no idea if I’m insured or not and yeah, it might be a good price but you go through a period where they’re they’re seeing if they will ensure you you get it just a lot of mixed emails and signals like I don’t know if I’m inured. I don’t know if I have insurance for six months but I’m probably double insured. I don’t know. I don’t know it’s not worth the hassle.
