Joos Power provides on-the-go phone charging through power bank rental stations in hospitals, hospitality venues, and public spaces. Customers rent by scanning a QR code or using contactless payment, charge while on the move, and return to any Joos Power station. For contactless rentals, a temporary payment hold may apply and is released by the customer’s bank approximately 5–7 working days after return.

**** SCAM WARNING ****
✋🏼✋🏼✋🏼✋🏼✋🏼✋🏼✋🏼✋🏼✋🏼✋🏼✋🏼
- Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham
- Thursday, 11th December, 2025
- Patient, attending for treatment.
Whilst in very poor health, vulnerable and in need of my phone which was low battery - I STUPIDLY trusted and made use of a power bank hire service I was signposted to.
This service being JOOS RENT A POWER BANK.
Showed fee as being: £1 unlock fee + £3 for 30mins (with a hold fee on bank card of £36 until the power bank was replaced after use).
Purposely the powerbanks are weak and will not effectively charge phone up much; certainly not in 30 mins - so this is a clear opportunity for a scam.
Upon using and replacing the hired power bank, and returning home - I was horrified to see multiple deductions made from my account (listed under name 'Joos' and 'NYX/JOOS'
**********************************
I STRONGLY ADVISE ANYONE USING THIS SERVICE, WHICH LEAVES THE USER OPEN TO BE FINANCIALLY ABUSED AND SCAMMED, AND CAUSE STRESS, UPSET IN ADDITION TO LOSS OF MONEY.
**********************************
NOTE: ¹Trying to get your money back is hit b miss, an time and energy consuming, as you will have to provide numerous requested bits of info as evidence and even then you will not be fully recompensed and may never get a penny back.
NEVER IN THIS LIFE OR THE NEXT WILL I EVER GO NEAR A JOOS MACHINE OR ANYTHING WITH JOOS WRITTEN ON IT!!!

I had an issue where someone else kept the power bank I rented, and I was charged the maximum. I contacted JOOS and they responded politely, helped me locate the rental, and issued a partial refund. I really appreciate their understanding and assistance.

Amazing customer support, and a great service for those in need of asap power assistance, trapped in a hospital for example.

I had an issue with returning a power bank and the time charge continue to run. The team on the chat helped me resolve this and was very easy for use

Like a lot of other people using this service, I believe that the Joos setup is little short of a scam that uses sharp practice to prey on unsuspecting customers. I rented one of the units in the Stag and Hounds pub in Bristol. I had difficulty returning the power bank so I asked the barman to help me. He did so and confirmed that it had been returned correctly and that all was well. However I have started getting extra charges taken from my credit card. When I contacted the company they claimed that the power bank had not been returned and wanted me to provide proof that it had been. I am now in a different country and they refused to verify themselves with the venue that the unit had been returned. All I can say is BEWARE!!!

Like everyone on here has said this so called company are nothing but a scam. They should be utterly ashamed of themselves. I was at the children's hospital at Stoke-on-Trent 20th Nov with my poorly grandson my phone was getting flat so I used the charger. BIG MISTAKE. They have taken a extra £24 out of my bank. Tried to contact them with no ajoy. Iv contacted my bank to make sure they don't take anymore money out. After all these reviews surely something should be done.

I so wish I’d read these reviews before deciding to rent one of their “rental” power packs at our local hospital A&E (Epsom). We had been there 8 hours and my phone had died so I needed to get a bit of charge. I used it for just over ONE HOUR and returned the unit according to the instructions which the unit confirmed.
I have been charged £36 - like several other people - and the company claims the unit wasn’t returned or not returned “correctly”. I spent an hour this morning on a ‘live chat’ with their customer services who just blamed me for doing something wrong. This company HAS to be completely aware that the units it possesses in its machines and the number it claims people bought/did not return, does not tally and hence that they are wrongly charging a lot of people. This is fraudulent and the company should be investigated. It’s all the more shocking when you realise that the units are deliberately placed in hospital A&Es so they are exploiting people at their most vulnerable moments.

Fees constantly increasing, timescales reducing, data for available vending stations more often than not is incorrect, customer service is AWFUL - different agents ending mixed messages.
Avoid!

RIPPED OFF/ POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. In A&E with my extremely sick child. Needed charger to get hold of my family. Long story short. Faulty charger and return system. Got charged £36. Contacted customer services and have been told I will be charged for an hours usage and refunded the rest. Disgusting to be charged for something that did not work. They tried to say I had the the powerbank for nearly ten hours when I had it for less than an hour desperately trying to get it to work whilst comforting my child who was vomiting everywhere. Don't use Joos. DISGUSTED!

My daughter rented a charger on 22 July 2025 from the Oracle in Reading & returned it. Apparently, they never got it back & she was charged £36.00.
Still no refund after waiting over 3 months - numerous promises & extortionate amount of emails. I have sent screenshots and they respond back but there is no action to their words.
You should be utterly ashamed of yourself treating someone with a diagnosed disability with such contempt and lack of respect.
Look at all the other negative reviews whereby others have returned charging devices correctly and they have still been charged.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS THEY ARE SCAMMERS.
UPDATE ON 28.11.2025 after Joos empty response insinuating that my daughter has received a refund. FOUR MONTHS & nothing! Please, please do not use this company - they have completely and utterly destroyed my daughter's confidence. This is a lot of money that you have, in effect, stolen from her. Your promises are worthless.
UPDATE 16.01.2026
6 months now & no refund what a pathetic excuse for a company.

Absolute scam!! They have taken £72 out of my bank account claiming they were never returned. They didn’t even work in the first place which is why I returned the first and got a new one, which was the exact same. I have been trying to talk to someone for over 40 minutes now and they have been no help whatsoever!! DONT USE THESE CHARGERS

Réponse de joospower.com
I used a power bank in hospital for 45 minutes and returned the item I have now been charged £36 in total. I will be taking this to trading standards the amount of people I can see this has happened to.
Customer service is a joke.

Réponse de joospower.com
Scam, £3 unlocking fee payable every time which is none refundable, despite their FAQ suggesting that its a holding deposit.
Rent for 30 mins, you pay £3 + the time required i.e £0.58.
Do not use unless you're desperate for your battery to be charged.

Réponse de joospower.com
They took £36 pound from me without any kind of warning that this would be taken but yet has not been refunded after 1 hour of service this is a absolute joke stupid system crap service don’t use this crap literally scamming people in a hospital is disgusting not only me but a old person to before me couldn’t even put it back properly (Epsom hospital ) DONT USE THIS MACHINE !!!!

Réponse de joospower.com
Yep pretty scammy.
The machine would not take back the power bank.. it malfunctioned and kept telling me to return it to an already used slot.. charged £36 for an hours rental..
Support offered me a measly £15 partial refund as they 'still need to cover their costs'.. Whatever, told them to keep it. I think they need it more than me.
Avoid this business, I have never had any issues with any other rental power bank business.

I rented a charger from hospital when my daughter was rushed to A&E. The Authorisation hold of 36 pounds was taken . The amount is not made clear on the charger stations at all. After returning it the amount is still pending a week later and no refund in sight. I have raised this with my bank now as I need it dealt with quickly. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY AT ALL

Réponse de joospower.com
This is a SCAM. My experience with Joos has been nothing short of dreadful. It could not have gone much worse to be honest. Please, you must stay away, I literally beg you. Joos is a company which operates a scam service and provides incredibly poor customer service. The machines are deeply flawed and there is a recurrent pattern of people being ripped off, conned and treated very unfairly, in fact badly.
I regret that many, myself included, only discover the negative reviews after falling victim to their fraudulent activities. In my case, £36 was taken from my account without proper authorisation, and efforts to obtain a refund from the company have been a long process. The customer service team is the worst I have ever encountered in my life. You need to save yourself the hassle. Please do not use these power banks. You will likely come to regret it.
Please look at the reviews for yourself. I am one of many and it needs to stop. In fact I recall attending the European Bartending School in London, Bermondsey, a few years back, Interestingly Joos operate literally a block away and it is a very suspicious and rough area of London. The people who work here are immoral and only out for themselves. There is no customer service, just tactical staling and ignoring of your complaint. They will not refund you.
Joos has numerous reports of overcharging customers, many of whom are vulnerable and in times of need, such as those in hospitals. The company, founded by a group of university students led by Hannz Liu and Josh Baah, has demonstrated an alarming pattern of immoral and corrupt behaviour. They repeatedly promise refunds without ever following through.
I strongly urge anyone who has been affected to immediately contact their bank to initiate a chargeback and to file a complaint with the UK Trading Standards. By compiling evidence including the widespread evidence/portfolio of negative reviews, you have a very strong case and it is important that you get your money back as you don’t deserve to be ripped of nearly £40! No service they offer is worth £36 and they deliberately charge this even if you use the service for 5 minutes, PLEASE STAY AWAY.
This is happening to a lot of people and it’s not fair. I am in the process of writing to trading standards to raise this flag. Hopefully Joos can learn from this and stop these bad behaviours and at the very least modify and repair their faulty machines. They need to stop overcharging customers as it is very unfair. People, especially in hospitals and in their time of need do not need this added burden and stress on them.
Thanks to services like TrustPilot people can be advised about companies which are not fair. Please conduct due diligence and decide if using Joos is really the best for you. The reviews speak for themselves. I am one of many customers treated very badly.
