We rented a Kyte from germany at LAX

We rented a Kyte from germany at LAX. The rate was cheap and the car very clean! Also, the handover was very convenient: We got an Uber voucher to take an Uber directly from the airport exit to the Lot where we quickly received the car - no lines, no documents, and we could verify our ID directly though the APP.

I rented a SUV from Kyte rental cars

I rented a SUV from Kyte rental cars. I made my reservations three months in advance. I had a confirmation which was sent to my email shortly after I made my reservation. 12 hours prior to me picking up the car, I received a telephone call from our representative Saying that no car was available , and my reservation was canceled. They left me hanging with absolutely no car when I was planning on using it for a three week ski vacation from Denver, Colorado. I would never ever use this company, they are unreliable, I would never recommend to any family or friends. I travel 4-6 months a year, commonly Rent-A-Car. But I will not use this company ever again . Stay away.

booked 17 days ago and being told that they cant deliver the car on time with less than 24 hours till scheduled pick up.
customer service is the worst. make no effort to fix situation.
avoid at all costs...

ID verification failure

Another person having their reservation cancelled because Kyte said they were "unable to verify your documents at this time".
No other explanation.
I'm actually glad it was cancelled after reading all of the terrible reviews here.

Kyte " rental cars delivered…to the trash heap!

Kyte " rental cars delivered to your door!"
Nope! I was directed to a drop off location that was a filthy bus stop with human feces in it! So I passed homeless encampments and had to cross a freeway overpass.
But the car was across a busy street!
Then, all of 50 miles down the road, warning light comes on- low coolant. I contacted Kyte and got the run around for hours. Finally they tell me to go buy coolant and put it in myself.
They don't offer any compensation for performing basic maintenance on their vehicle!
They threatened me with late fees if I return the car late, but I have to stop and let it cool before adding coolant.
Final straw, I went to the drop of location, not my door, which is only 3 miles away. The surfer/pickup was directed to another location, funny 3 miles away. The same feces- filled bu stop.
All lies- not convenient, not dropped or picked up at my door. They have excuses for everything! "Out of our service area"
Strange, both the Oakland airport and their drop off locations are also not within the service area.
NEVER use Kyte!!!!!

Custom service is next to none, book elsewhere

Custom service is next to none. If u need it , you're screwed. Chat isnt helpful to get you what you need. Says to call the number but you are sent in circles because its very hard to get through on phones. It'll day you have a 20 minute wait time, so you'll be waiting and all the sudden they will have the hold music stop & the auto response say 'Goodbye' & hang up. Their website mentions easily modify you're booking including returning car early but they only give options to extend. So to contact the customer service as I've described makes it very difficult to plan days ahead or last minute to modify res to return car early to them in an emergency for an earlier flight out or whatever your plans change for. When you get the car on your first day it's an in person handover of keys which seems smooth but odd that they drive the car to you in a lot to meet them as they don't have a station point like commonly known rental companies located inside rental terminals at airport. They make it extremely difficult by not having an actual in person desk in the airport so you cannot talk to a real person. This made it so hard to return the car early cause you have no where to handover the key after parking& locking it at airport.

Terrible customer service

I rarely write reviews, but the customer service from Kyte was so bad that I feel compelled. I was denied "Verification" while trying to rent with Kyte, which resulted in the cancellation of my booking. I have a clean driving record, no credit issues, and easily meet all of their criteria for verification. I have rented cars in dozens of states and countries with a wide range of rental car companies, and have never had an issue. When I contacted Kyte customer service for support, they repeatedly refused to make any effort to understand why my verification didn't work, stating only that a third party (Onfido) handles their verification process and encouraging me to contact them for help. When I contacted Onfido, they immediately told me that Kyte has all the tools necessary to investigate and troubleshoot the verification process. I returned to Kyte customer service and was again directed to Onfido and told there was nothing they can do, no one at Kyte can help, and I can't rent with them. They made zero effort to investigate the issue, even after I politely asked them to help, to escalate the issue, etc. One of the most frustrating customer service experiences I've had in a while. I can only imagine what it would be like to deal with them if you had an actual problem with your rental.

A few things to be aware of

I used Kyte on a recent trip to Oregon and Washington. Price wise they were only a little cheaper than a standard rental agency but I like that you don’t have to deal with going in and waiting in line. That said, there were a couple of things that irritated me. One, when I initially registered and booked a code automatically populated and in the details it said “unlimited miles.” I figured that was because I was a new customer, however when I got the confirmation it did not reflect that. I reached out to customer service via the chat and they said it was a glitch. Okay, but it seems like they should have honored it or done something, instead it was like “oh well.” I didn’t push it because I didn’t think I’d go over the mileage allotted for the trip. Secondly, I changed the pickup location before the cutoff time and in the app it said $0 price difference. The confirmation I received said $0 price difference. However I received an invoice for $20 about an hour before pickup. When I reached out via chat again I was informed they just realized the location pickup had changed and there would be a charge, but they should have advised that before I made the change. Unprofessional and again it was like “oh well.” Lastly I’d advise filling up before you return the car. They stress no need to fill up, they charge a fair market price, but it’s over $2/gallon more than if you filled it up yourself. Take pictures of everything before you hand over the keys. I requested a final receipt and was told they don’t provide those. I hope they don’t pull any bs later.

Experience was a headache

Experience was a headache. Rented a vehicle from LAX and the only way to get to their car pickup location was via uber. Well the voucher they issued had some issue and did not apply and I ended up paying both to/from uber fares ~$100 on top of quoted price. The issued $75 voucher remains unapplied with no way to get a refund. Tried to resolve with Kyte customer service and after back and forth of providing detail information on what happened, they just close the incident by issuing another useless voucher.

SCAM Company! BEWARE

Returned a car in great condition was charged $100 cleaning fees over nothing - a few pieces of grass on the floor that I could pick up with my hands. The person who picked up the car told me everything looks fine to him.

I’ve actually looked at the photo now, and the few crumbs that were on the passenger seats are not even visible in the photos I took when I handed the car to the person who picked it up this is seriously dishonest company that will just scam you out of your money.

They also dishonestly tell you that you don’t need to fill up gas. But they forget to tell you that the gas rates they’re charging are like two dollars more than what you would pay at a cheap station (clearly you’re not going to put Chevron premium gas into a rental car)

I actually had a really good experience…

I actually had a really good experience with them in San Francisco. I’d never heard of them but had to book a car last minute, since another car rental agency messed up my reservation. The pickup was at a convenient location, and I got frequent text updates on driver location, as well as an Uber-Style map. Drop off was easy too, and the car was very decent. All in all an easier experience than your average car rental agency, and they were way less picky about the payment types they accept (although they hold a large deposit).

It's gonna have to be a no for me

Uhm...Went through the entire process and had my reservation cancelled after providing my driver's license for verification. I'm not a felon, my credit is amazing, I have no moving violations. Basically. I meet NONE of the criteria to be denied the rental per their website. They don't even provide a rationale. This was my first time trying to use them and I will have to say it will also be my last.

It declined my verification as well. There's none to contact, no one to help explain why or what this means, and where to go to from here. Obviously not ever wasting my time with them. WHAT A joke.

Kyte dictionary: A month is only 28 days

Cars have always been clean and convenient but the company is full of deception. All over their website and social media is monthly subscriptions - 3 months. 6 months and 12 months but nowhere to be found is that their "month" long rental is defined as 28 days (essentially you have to pay for 13 months in a year) because that's how they define it...CRAZY?!? The only places the 28 day month is mentioned is embedded in a FAQ "billing cycle is 28 days" and on page 20 of the signed contract after the car is delivered. Feels like such a rude and insincere way for them to make an extra 10% off of you. Explained with customer service that I had even inquired about how the days work twice and no one provided the correct answer because it was unclear. They just don't care

Another thing is the prices are so inflated by hidden charges (delivery + various insurances) so you end up with around $900/month for the model advertised at $562. This is somewhat consistent with the industry so we'll let that slide.

Terrible customer service

For whatever reason, the third party company they use to verify ID's denied mine and Kyte will not do business with me. There is no recourse for this either nor can you find information on why you were denied. The company they use to verify ID is buried behind email walls and basically unreachable. Im assuming they will be unwilling to discuss the topic anyways. Hopefully Kyte fails as a business as soon as possible.

Just TRY to prove your ID on Kyte car rental!

This sounds like such a great service. I tried mightily to reserve, twice - multiple times each time, on different days, on app and computer. In fact, I did reserve - I just could NEVER prove my identification through their system, on either app or computer. This last time I tried with a Chat customer service rep who had me absolutely tearing out my hair. The systems sucks!! I gave up and canceled, yet again. Pity. I really wanted to use them.
