It started with Mamie Lou hanging sheets out in the garden — the smell of Marseille soap caught on the wind, linen gone stiff and sweet in the sun. That smell is where LAVOIR begins. It's an homage to her and to the women before her — mothers, grandmothers, aunts — for whom looking after a home was never a chore but a quiet practice, done properly, without being asked. La Lessive is our attempt to bottle what she knew: soap flakes from Marseille, a fragrance developed in Grasse, poured by hand in small batches. Not perfect, not clinical — just done the way it was always done, before convenience replaced care. Because linen remembers.

From reading the original story to receiving my first tin of Lavoir La Lessive the whole experience has been magical. The communication right from the start and the product delivery exection is excellent. The product arrives in a beautiful cardboard wrapped, string tied box complete with old French stamps and sealed with a Lavoir seal. Taking you back to a by gone era. The product performance is superior, leaving a delicious fragrance after washing. My white towels seem much whiter. I like the product so much I bought a second tin.

Love the natural and fresh laundry smell
I just received my second container of laundry soap from Lavoir and I am extremely happy with my order! It arrived packaged with such great care and attention to details so that the long journey was not a problem for it. I can’t wait to use it again because it will make my laundry smell and feel so fresh. It even came with a hand written thank you .. that’s the care Alex puts into his product.. Non-toxic, lightly perfumed and local
I am incredibly grateful to have found this non toxic, gently perfumed laundry detergent! My first batch arrived beautifully packaged with a seal over brown paper and enclosed with a personal card, personalised embroidered tea towel, wooden peg and measuring spoon. The attention to detail made it a delight to open and it smelled beautiful upon arrival. I have now used it for two loads of washing in a hard water area and thankfully (and unlike some other brands), this fresh smell permeated and stayed put on my bedding once washed. Huge thank you to Alex and team for this quality product and excellent service! I am very happy to have discovered this in my local Cologne & Cotton.

Before I start I must emphasise that I did buy this product: it was not given to me.
I very rarely do reviews because it is very rarely I buy something that is over and above my expectations: this is way over! I’m quite a cynic about what people claim, but in this case …amazing! Yes, the packaging was beautiful: even my post lady was envious: Yes the cloth, the peg and measure were lovely additions, but more importantly for me IT WORKS! I have used it now for nearly three weeks, in a very hard water area, I use only one scoop of the liquid, my linen bedding is glorious, whites come out whiter, my towels are softer, (I never use a fabric conditioner anyway) the smell is just pure France! I’ve already bought another one as a gift and it will certainly become my go to laundry product!
