Edible annual plant
Pink-tinged young leaves make a good spinach substitute
Small yellow-green flowers in summer
Can be treated as cut-and-come-again salad crop
Steamed and topped with melted butter, the pink-tinged young leaves of tree spinach make a tasty substitute for spinach or chard, and they’re also delicious eaten raw in salads. Pick regularly for a constant supply of tender young leaves, or leave the plant to grow tall as an ornamental border plant.
