My AC/heating unit is serviced and clean. The fault was identified as "soft-starter" by another technician. The part was a few hundred bucks to supply, but he didn't have it. I paid his callout fee but didn’t want to wait for the part (it’s winter).

That’s when I called Metropolitan.
I told them about the faulty soft-starter. They charged $141.90 in advance for a call out, and said they would quote for the repair once they confirmed the faulty soft-starter.

The Metropolitan technician didn't turn up at the agreed time, but came next day.

Then he spent less than 5 minutes aimlessly poking and prodding, before declaring he had no idea what the problem was, and I needed to pay $1,849 for their "rejuvenation package" so he can confirm the faulty soft-starter.

My warning is this: Even though I told them what the problem is, these guys knew exactly that they would upsell me an additional $1,849 before telling me their version of what the problem is. They give the scam a cute name like “rejuvenation”.

You'd expect to know what the problem is after a callout fee of $141.90. But it's just so that they can come and charge you an additional $1,849 to actually identify the problem. All this before actual repair parts and labour.

Interestingly the credit card statement description listed the merchant as "Jims Plumbing Adelaide"

I'm shocked at just how bad the service provided by this company was so please be careful when searching for plumbers - they'll likely appear as a local plumber in search engines so be aware of company with the number 1300 404 190. I needed a simple job done and paid the $140.00 call out fee in advance. I'd booked the service 2 days in advance for between 7:00am to 11:00am - the plumber arrived at 4:00pm but probably would have arrived later if I hadn't called the office. The plumber then quoted a cost of more than $800 plus GST to replace a washer! He also tried to upsell a $1,500 tap replacement. I've wasted an entire day at home as well...

Charged $141 call-out before the visit, then turned up 3 hours late, and without even opening the gas log fire, quoted $3050 for a standard service. Then admitted that his boss told him to just charge $3000 for all these gas log fire issues.
