Plumbing & Gas called me back. This was not their job, but another company using their name! Looks like I am down $141.90. Sorry Plumbing and Gas, as it seems someone is trading on your reputation.
I paid for a "technician" to check out our leaking solar hot water system. No one turned up. Plumbing & Gas don't require a payment up front.

Had to pre pay $141 just for them to come out about my hot water system not heating up. Guy didn't even open the unit and obviously had no clue then went to sit in his van. Came back and quoted almost $1000 just to look for issue or get a new system for $4700, which only costs $950 retail. Complete scam.

Scott attended our job to inspect a minor leak. After leaving we noted the hot water had stopped working and called to see if it had been turned off during the work. We were told he hadn't touched anything, then found out later that the water had been turned off to the system.

Would have been easy enough to say that he had turned it off to isolate the leak, but lied instead and offered that we could pay another call out fee to inspect it.

Scam artists
Call out for a blocked toilet. Paid $141.90 and a lazy dude came out and quoted $1500 to dig up the paving. We got a second opinion and it was cleared in 20 mins by another plumber for $500 with absolutely no need to dig up the paving.
Called to complain they asked us to email then.
We Emailed and waited a week with no response.
Reported them to consumer affairs and they tried to do mediation and the company didn’t even respond to them. Would never recommend.

Read the reviews. They have so many bad reviews for doing the exact same thing.

Courteus and quick service if they charge you $150 just to visit for roof leaking quote. Then they are not able to give you a quote, because job is a bit complicated. They need to make another visit to check everything properly on the roof and verandah. So second visit is $900. That is correct $900. Tht ammount is used if you accept quote and job. If you reject the job, they steel from you total of $1050. That is extorsion to force you to take a job with them. Please do NOT call them if you respect yourself.

Stay away- they wanted to charge me $77k to fix a water leak under my house. We stupidly accepted quote as they told us it would 100% fix our problem. Luckily the same day we spoke to family and told us to get another quote. We rang and advised we wouldn't accept quote. I got another plumber who found it was a broken pipe at front of our house that was causing the problem. It cost me under $5k to fix and the problem has now been rectified. If we had agreed to go ahead with Metropolitan Plumbing the $77k would have been wasted as it still would not have fixed the issue. Do yourself a favour save your money and use real plumbers. This bunch are rejects that didn't attend trade school!

requested a quote on a drain pipe for evap cooler to be reconnected as its fallen off and hanging on the side of the roof. call out fee was $141.90 over the phone and when they came to inspect (from the ground) didnt even go up, they quoted me $2400 to "fix" the issue and do a "rejuvenation" on the evap... like seriously? i know my evap works and i got it serviced last summer. when i rejected the works the plumber just smiled at me like he won the lotto and said he will send me the quote for referral if i need to come back to it. never got the email and they are the biggest scammers!! got some other roof plumber to fix the issue for $240.

I would strongly caution anyone from using Upside Down Plumbing (also trading as Metropolitan Plumbing, Mr Emergency, 23 Hour Plumbing, Cyber Plumbing, and many other names). Our experience was not only deeply disappointing but appears to follow a pattern of exploitative, misleading, and borderline unlawful conduct.

We contacted the company to service our 25-year-old air conditioning unit after clearly stating in the initial booking call that it required R22 gas, a refrigerant that is no longer widely used. Despite this, they assured us they could handle it and sent a technician after collecting a $140 call-out fee.

The technician confirmed on-site that it was indeed an R22 unit—yet told us it could be repaired and proceeded to quote a $2,400 rejuvenation service, requiring a $1,000 deposit. We agreed in good faith.

The service was never performed. After some time spent looking at the system, the technician admitted the unit couldn’t be repaired and instead offered a quote for a full system replacement costing $40,000. We declined, and he left—no meaningful work was done. We made clear we did not want the heater serviced (it was mid-summer), so no rejuvenation took place at all.

What followed was months of silence—our emails were ignored, phone calls unreturned, and default notices issued. The only consistent communication came in the form of threats of credit default listing if we didn’t pay the remaining $1,449. Out of concern for our credit file, we eventually paid $1,000 under formal protest, but have lodged complaints with Consumer Affairs Victoria and are pursuing recovery through the courts.

They are in clear breach of Section 36 of the Australian Consumer Law, which prohibits businesses from accepting payment for services they know they cannot provide.

Please do your research before engaging this company. We deeply regret not checking their reputation beforehand. Their operation is designed to trap people into paying for work that either doesn’t happen, or is wildly overpriced. This is not just bad service—it’s a business model built on deception and intimidation.

Metropolitan advised me works around the house would take multiple days and cost me upwards of $5k. However, were completed within a day absolute rip-off. I wish I’d watch the A Current Affair episode 23/09/23 on their shoddy and expensive work before I’d engaged them.

I was charged $141 for them to attend my property to inspect a leak. Quoted me $1,849 to find the leak. They then claimed the leak was somewhere near the front entry area and quoted another $3,049 for addition work. I then hired another plumber, who found the leak in completely different location. I contacted them for a refund, and they only offered me $141. I took it thinking it was better than nothing. The service was completely misleading and overpriced. They are just running a money grab scheme. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!!!

Do your due diligence before signing up with these guys. I regret not doing my research on them and learned a very expensive lesson. Learn from my mistake.

This company is praying on people in need, especially older people and women.
Had to pay for a quote $140. Quote was $1250 for fixing a gas ducted heating. We were asked to pay in advance $75.
The person to do the work was from Mr Emergency. He patched up, told us not to bother fixing it properly, as it will be costly.

This company came out and charged a call out fee. Tech told me the unit was fixable and to have a second person come out to fix the unit for a further $1000 only to be told now at a total of $1300 that it needs to be replaced in full. No service was completed and was a total waste of time and money. Calling customer care to be kept on hold for 15 minutes at a time only to be hung up on as no one's available to speak to. Heath in customer service was disgusting to deal with, offered no assistance and ended the call with 'ta-ta' and hung up. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

Charged $141 call out fee, came and looked then said we needed a service and they would investigate the problem for $2500. I asked if the problem would be fixed and they said no that was just for the investigation and service. Got a friend to go into the roof, they pressed the reset and it was fixed. Thanks for trying to rip off people. Never again will I call your company, should be ashamed.

Plumber was quick but Upside down plumbing call centre (based in Adelaide for Perth customers) is to be avoided. They offered me a booking between 5 and 8am so I could leave for work by 8. The plumber arrived on the dot of 8 saying he never starts before 8. What a ridiculous system to have me waiting from 5am for somebody who is going to come 3 hours later! Also $141.90 is steep for changing a washer on a dripping tap in under 10 minutes.

$9k for a $3k job, too late to stop the job, as we had signed the dotted line, water heater replacement when it was just a leaky valve.
The staff were nice and apologetic, but obviously told to sell it at the high price. Until we told friends what it cost we had two plumber friends who said it should not have cost that much. Whilst I called a company called Mr Emergency for a roof leak Metro Plumbing and Gas van arrived that should have been the first hint that I was not getting a reliable/trustworthy tradie, the guy was pleasant enough and I don’t blame him he is obviously told what needs to be done or not done in my case
I was told they would arrive between 7am and 11 am
He arrived at 14:25
Long story short he quoted $890 to investigate the roof leak and then he could evaluate the repair needed
So I’ve paid $144 call out fee now wants $890 and still the problem wouldn’t be fixed.
Needless to say I didn’t use them.
The next day I managed to get a reputable roof fixer who didn’t charge call out fee or investigative fee and has booked me in to repair
How do these guys sleep at night
So beware Mr Emergency is Metro just in sheep’s clothing and possibly other names in Perth.

Scam! Can only think it must be to target the vulnerable who don't know or feel pressured. Advance payment of $140 for them to attend and quote! Quoted $2,139.00 (!!) for dishwasher plumb only as requested. Already had new dishwasher and electrical socket. I scoffed out loud and when I advised I did not have $2K, Metropolitan guy kept repeating that they provide finance options (HUMM & ZIP). Clearly that is how they scam/trap the vulnerable into disgusting overcharges. The FOUR other quotes I've also had are between $275 & $585. They are completely off the scale and a rip-off. Do not use. There are many other options out there. Make sure you shop around and get multiple quotes. Most don't even do a call out charge to quote! So don't fall for their scam.
