An excellent service
Following an electronic breakdown which left us safe but unable to crank the engine over I called the GEM helpline and was connected after two rings to the highly competent and re-assuring call handler. After a few very relevant questions to ascertain that we were in a safe place and who we were, the possible options were explained starting with roadside assistance to initially diagnose and effect a repair. It felt really helpful to be given a name and know that I could call back. The assistance arrived within the one hour predicted and I received a follow up call to check that this had happened. All in all a very supportive and easy process during what started as a stressful situation 400 miles from home and during a caravan holiday.

Excellent service received
The staff member at GEM who helped us with our complicated issue with our breakdown was amazing. She was helpful and put us at ease during what was a very stressful and frustrating time for us. We have only used GEM a couple of other times over the past few years but they have always been good at what they do. I would not hesitate to keep renewing with them every year.

Gem used to be great but now crap
Gem used to be great but now are on a par with the RAC or AA but at a much higher premium.
I needed to move my car which had been off the road for a while. I arranged 1 day insurance and booked an MOT so it was all legal. Fuel pump went and gem refused to recover it as it was on soon even though I explained the insurance and booked mot made it road legal. Charged me over £150 to recover (on top of my annual fee).
I complained and they said they would look into it but never got back to me.
They kept me waiting to pick the car up for 5hours.
I can get the same crap service elsewhere but much cheaper.

Excellent friendly service
I rang Gem to ask them about my van which was diagnosed as being technically "broken down" on my driveway at home in Bolton, by a mobile mechanic. Gem agreed that my van qualified as "broken down" and came at my requested date and time to collect it and deliver it to my chosen repair garage, which was in Warrington.
I found that from my first, friendly, phone call to Gem Motoring Assist to the moment that their chosen transporter driver, from Bolton Recovery Services, dropped my van and I off at my chosen repairers, I found the whole process to be friendly and professional and in my view score 10/10.
Well done and thank you to Gem Motoring Assist.
A bonus to this experience with them is that I'm covered for a whole year in whatever vehicle I'm in as a driver or passenger. Brilliant.
I'm almost looking forward to my next breakdown.

I’ve been a member for 5 years
I’ve been a member for 5 years, and would now never even consider using anyone else.
Each time I’ve had to call them it’s been so simple (both by phone and online); they’ve kept in touch with me throughout the whole breakdown process, and a truck has always arrived sooner than I’d expected.
Every guy driving the breakdown truck has also been friendly, helpful and professional. I simply cannot fault GEM in any way.
No, I’m not an employee or friend of anyone: just a very satisfied customer.

a first breakdown experience
A non-start in deepest Cornwall on the morning we were leaving. Phone call to a real person answered promptly and then I managed to get updates on the app. A technician and vehicle within the allocated time; entirely reasonable. He worked through various possibilities and got us rolling to enable a long journey. A good first test for GEM, thankyou. (Glad we moved from AA who were painful at every renewal period).

I logged my call on the app & within…
I logged my call on the app & within minutes had a callout time. At the allocated time I had contact to ask if they where there which they weren’t but give the man a chance, no they were on it & then another contact to say he’d be 3-4 minutes, he was about 2 minutes & within 10-15 minutes I was back on the road. We had a really lovely polite & knowledgeable young man. The service we received from both the call centre & the call out guy were definitely 5 star & I would have no problem recommending GEM which I have done to anyone that will listen

Call for assistance was answered immediately and courteously. Assistance arrived within a reasonable time. Mechanic very helpful. Once my claim had been processed, payment went through very quickly.
