Mudita Kompact Phone and Harmony 2 alarm clock

Earlier this month, I bought (I am within the EU) a Kompakt phone and a Harmony 2 alarm clock.

Unfortunately, it took rather longer than advertised for them to be delivered, not helped by my not being supplied by Mudita with the correct information about shipping, so I didn't have all the tracking information.

Happily, when I contacted Mudita, I was promptly emailed and given the full information about my order so I could track them.

They arrived. Both products are good.

The phone I want to use as my main phone, so side-loading necessary apps (which is not supported by Mudita, and so does not figure in my rating) does seem to hit battery life (which I knew was a possibility, but the device still exceeds standard smartphone battery life). I also have to say that side-loading is not intuitive, and, if like me you are not a Linux user, you will find precious little guidance from third parties on how to do it. Again: that doesn't affect my review/rating, because it is not a supported Mudita function. But both points are worth noting.

The phone's form factor is good, call quality is good and there are some nice built-in sounds. I like the Mudita apps and phone interface: really clear. I have not yet set it up for voicemails, and, I believe that with some phone carriers this can be an issue: I can update on that later. Overall? It is obviously expensive for what it is, but nice. It would be good if it was a bit more customisable, but that's a minor thing. At this price it should last for a number of years, but we shall see! If it were a bit cheaper and if it lasts well, it would be a five star device for me.

Why not 5 stars in this review? The alarm clock was faulty. And I'm not best pleased (given that there was a delay in delivery) that Mudita is only offering to repair it, not replace it. The fault appears to be a hardware one (the main button on the phone does not switch the alarm function off). I would really like a functioning (and preferably new) alarm clock, hence the 3 star review.

Function-wise, the Harmony 2 alarm clock isn't very well-described on Mudita's website, in my view. The should improve this, because there is some great functionality! E.g. you can have the alarm clock light go on before the alarm goes off for a gentler awakening (its not a sunrise alarm per se, but its still quite effective). There are only in-built alarm sounds at present, but I liked the one I chose. I love that I can use it as a Pomodoro timer for work, that it will play built-in nature sounds for timed relaxation periods, and, that you can use it to time a meditation session. Not tested yet, but a recent software update is supposed to allow you to customise the alarm with your own choice of 'inspiring' quotes etc. Again, the phone has a nice form factor, is easy to read and reasonably intuitive to set up and use. If it were not for the hardware fault and the less-than-satisfactory offer of a repair not a replacement, it would be a strong five star review of this device from me: yes, it is expensive as an alarm clock, but it has more functionality than a standard alarm clock.

£400 down and 3 months later and a defective phone… Buy with CAUTION

I bought one of these just before Christmas. The phone was the perfect dumb phone and really improved my day to day. It was expensive for such a device but the time I earned back made it worthwhile. This is until multiple faults started effecting the advice…

Firstly, the kill switch which is supposed to be more effective than airplane mode started malfunctioning, turning on and off constantly at its own accord. Ending phone calls, disconnecting from blue tooth etc. This made the phone practically unusable for its primary function: calling people. This all started happening only 3 months into buying this phone brand new for just shy of £400! Next, the phone just completely died… Screen off, not taking charge, nothing. I sent it off to be repaired and it’s now been 3 weeks and no repair or replacement. I’m back into my iPhone and £400 down. Just want people to be aware, buying the the Cat flip flown or something, will save you considerable money and agro in the future.

I really wish I didnt have to write…

I really wish I didnt have to write this, as Mudita is in many ways a likeable company. However, as their customer support is simply unreachable, I really feel that I am left with no other option. The phone (Kompakt) is a good product, and in many ways exactly what I am looking for. But when I cannot get any assistance at all in making it work as it is supposed to, I find it hard to give them any more than one star. I have been waiting for about five weeks for customer support to answer my emails.

As I saw someone else found that Mudita support reached out to them to rectify a one-star review in here, I am hoping they will do the same to me.

Great product, mild support

I've now waited over two weeks for a reply to my warranty claim and if I didn't spam their other channels nobody would of probably even handled my case.

The product and company is great but their customer support clearly needs help.

A $400 product should have support.

Mudita Kompakt — No Response on Warranty Claim for 1 Month

I ordered the Mudita Kompakt, and it arrived with a screen defect. After submitting a warranty claim, I have not heard from customer service for one month, so I can neither send it back to receive a refund nor receive a new device.

Edit (8/19): I have updated my review from a 1 star to a 3 star rating due to Mudita’s response to this complaint and their mission. Customer support emailed me shortly after I posted this and processed my warranty claim and sent me a shipping label within a day or two. The phone arrived back at their facilities today, so I hope to receive my refund within 14 days. While the phone was defective, I hope Mudita continues to make similar products and improves products and operations for future releases.

A pleasure to deal with

A pleasure to deal with, but I think they do need some more people on board. I wanted to add more items to my order and it took a few days for someone to get back to me, but then my phone had shipped. However, the team covered the cost of shipping so that I can get my additional items without paying to pay extra for shipping. Really nice touch from their side.

Disappointing Experience Returning a Defective Phone to Mudita

I received a defective phone from Mudita and contacted customer service. Unfortunately, they initially provided me with incorrect instructions.

As a result, the package never arrived in Poland due to local courier issues. I was informed it would be returned to me, but even after five weeks, it never came back. I tried to explain the situation multiple times and provided both the label and the full conversation thread as evidence, but had to escalate the matter in order to resolve it.

I did eventually receive a refund, which I appreciate, but the overall experience was extremely frustrating and poorly handled.

I sincerely hope Mudita learns from this and improves their customer service and return process moving forward.

Absolutely shocking company - AVOID

Awful company. I purchased the Kompact handset and could not get it to connect to any laptop. I spend weeks trying to get in touch with somebody from the company, and had to get help from their community forum. I've returned the phone but after a month, I still haven't been able to get a reply from anybody in their customer service team, or a refund. Absolutely shocking company
