Muji US has a packing problem
Apparently, from my own experience and reviews from their website, Muji US has a packing problem. I ordered 6 small ceramic rice bowls and they came in a huge box, with the bowls swimming around inside, with minimal bubble wrap. Two of the bowls were broken and it's a miracle that all 6 weren't broken. My husband, who's Japanese and a big Muji fan (the Muji stores in Japan), looked in the box and wondered if it was a joke. It was comical the way those 6 tiny bowls were sitting at the bottom of the huge box, completely unprotected. Like, did a toddler pack those bowls?
If you look at their damaged items FAQ you'll see the detailed process for submitting an email claim. It took me 30 minutes to send mine off, photos and all. Maybe I'm too used to Amazon's quick return process for damaged items, but it seems like Muji is leery of their customers making false claims or something, as if we're all living for the moment when we can sit down and write up a 30 min email, with "clear photos," about our broken bowls.
The ironic thing is that no country packages items better than Japan, so it seems like Muji would be very concerned that this seems to be a repeat problem with their US online store. I'll never order from Muji US again due to this issue. I have better things to do than type up lengthy emails w/ photographic evidence (including the invoice from the box, yes, they even wanted a photo of that; and photos of the *labels* on each broken item in addition to listing the items in the email) and this subsequent Trustpilot review.
The best part is that the email notifying me of my refund said that I didn't need to return the damaged items, I could just dispose of them. Wow! Really? Gee, thanks. This is not a customer-centric company.

I placed an online order on September 4. Weeks passed with no updates. Whe. I logged in to check on my order, and their website informed me they were experiencing delays. Today, October 7, I logged in again, and my order is marked as expired. I never received any communication from them. Horrible customer experience.

This is literally the worst customer service I've ever experienced. An item I ordered was marked as delivered by Fedex, and they took a blurry photo of boxes that are unidentifiable as proof. But, of course, my package from Muji was not there my other package shipped through Fedex was. I contacted customer service and they keep repeating the same thing over and over, saying they will investigate and then asking me to do the same thing again. It's been three weeks of this nonsense. Poor customer service. Ordered a digital gift card on 6/14/2024 and the recipient never received it as of 7/16. Contacted customer service via email and phone multiple times to resolve with no response.
I've ordered physical products online multiple times with no issues other than slow shipping/processing and have even returned items. Did not expect such a poor experience for a digital product.
Warning to US Customers - Do not order online!
Why even bother opening a store in the US when you don’t hire enough staff to run it? No one answers your “Customer Service” Hotline, no one even bothered to answer any emails, I don’t know where the heck is my order that I placed 9 days ago. I again checked the “Tracking” and it showed my order hasn’t even left their NJ fulfillment facility! OMG! Honestly, I love MUJI products, every time im in Tokyo I always swing by to buy stuff there and I was even excited to find out that they’ve opened here in the US. My hope was to get my items faster but I guess not! Never will I order MUJI online again! I’m super disappointed!

My wife bought three pairs of foot cover socks last Sunday and they are marked size 5-7. When she tried them they were way too small. She wears size 5.5 shoes, so obviously the tags on the socks were not correct. So we went back today, a week later, and asked for exchange. The cashier referred me to their manager and the manager refused flat out to exchange the pair my wife tried. The lady manager said she could only exchange the two pairs my wife didn't try. Her reason for not exchanging the one my wife tried with the larger size (7.5-10) was because the tag was removed. My wife asked how she would know if she didn't try it and how she could try it without removing the tag? The manager kept saying it was a store policy. This would never happen with other stores such as H&M, GAP, Nordstrom, e.g. If this is in fact Muji's store policy, it is extremely short-sighted thinking, and needs to be changed. We love the store and its product and have been their regular customer for years and now We are thinking of not going back.

Also had a TERRIBLE experience with MUJI. Ordered a storage bin and in the process qualified for a pair of free socks. Only the socks arrived, and now they won’t refund my money for the bin, and it’s impossible to get through on the phone. I left 2 vm and emailed twice before I even got a response, and they’ve been absolutely unhelpful and clearly could not care less.

I bought a reed diffuser which I cannot smell a hint of scent even when putting my nose close to the bottleneck, so I wrote an email to the customer service team. There is no further update information, no piece of information about my missing order items. It has been seven days since I reported my case. Surprisingly a Japanese brand company was doing a service like this. Muji products are good, but the online service is not doing good; eventually, the worst experience I have ever had. My suggestion is to go buy in the store and don't do Muji online shopping.
