Excellent journey around Svalbard
This was the second time we sailed with Oceanwide Expeditions, in the arctic this time. There is a reason we booked with them again: the first experience in the Antarctic was excellent, and the second did not disappoint! Excellent staff, service, hospitality, relatively small group of passengers and a down-to-earth approach to the journey. Do not expect a fancy cruise experience, but something more in line with its expedition character.

Since childhood it was my dream to travel to the arctic! With this cruise on Plancius to east Greenland my dream came true!! It was the trip of my life!!!!! The cruise, the team on board was so overwhelming !!! Thank you so much! I had tears in my eyes every day and I will never forget these wonderfull days, filled with nature, wildlife , excursions, the enthousiasme of the whole team!!! Canceled Antarctica cruise, just 1 of many!
The Weddell sea 11 day cruise was canceled 3 days before departure. I later learned that everyone in Ushuia knew Oceanwise is well known for canceling cruises! They canceled 3 sailings last season to Antarctica. So, good luck getting to your destination if you book with these guys. I also had to act like an imbecile in order to get any compensation. The negative reviews you read on here are 100% true! Do yourself a favor and book with a reputable company if you want to visit Antarctica.

Mechanical issues affected your departure, and despite extensive logistical and repair efforts, they could not be rectified due to limited access to drydock facilities in Ushuaia and the surrounding region. We made substantial efforts to ensure your voyage could proceed as planned, including transporting critical tools and materials and third-party specialists from Europe, and expediting the logistical and repair process as much as possible in extremely challenging circumstances.
We take the safety of our guests, crew, and vessels extremely seriously. This is non-negotiable, and we do not take any risks. We always seek to avoid canceling voyages, especially at short notice, but regarding your voyage and others affected last season, this was done with safety as our top priority. We want to emphasize that your comment indicating we are well known for canceling cruises is incorrect and not based on fact. Your circumstances were exceptional, frustrating, and extremely unfortunate.
You were offered and accepted compensation, as were all guests affected by cancellations. It is our understanding that you have also been given additional compensation by your travel operator, in addition to the amount we proactively provided as part of the cancellation communications sent to all affected guests.
If you wish to discuss your circumstances further, we invite you to contact us directly.
An Unforgettable Arctic Experience…
This expedition exceeded all my expectations. Although I had previously visited Antarctica, the Arctic offers a completely different landscape, its own unique atmosphere, and a fascinating history that goes far beyond the great explorers. Discovering this remarkable environment was both exciting and deeply moving.
The highlights of the voyage were the breathtaking Monaco Glacier, the unforgettable experience of navigating through the sea ice, and, of course, seeing polar bears in their natural habitat. Although we had to observe them from a considerable distance, as required by the regulations, it was still an extraordinary and emotional moment. Ny-Ålesund was another highlight, not only because of its beauty but also because of its rich historical significance and its connection with the pioneering age of Arctic exploration.
The expedition guides were outstanding professionals. They managed the group with great skill, took safety very seriously, and shared a wealth of knowledge throughout the voyage. Their enthusiasm, friendliness, and constant willingness to help made every day even more enjoyable.
I would also like to recognize the entire crew. From the bridge to the expedition team, the hotel staff, the dining room, the galley, and everyone working behind the scenes, their professionalism, dedication, and attention to every detail made us feel safe, comfortable, and genuinely welcome throughout the journey.
For me, this was an intense and unforgettable experience. It was not only a journey to one of the world's most spectacular natural environments, but also an opportunity to better understand its history, wildlife, and fragile ecosystem. I return home with wonderful memories, a deeper appreciation of the Arctic, and the hope of traveling with Oceanwide again in the future.

Very bad experience with Oceanwide
Very bad experience with Oceanwide Expedition, ship- Plancius ( pack ice- Polar Bear & Whale Special), from Longyearbyen to Longyearbyen (June 28,2026-July 07,2026).
We didn’t see one single Polar Bear during this trip. Highly disappointing the way they handled the whole expedition cruise.
Hotel manager William was extremely rude and unprofessional. He works like a robot not like a human.
Not recommended at all.

Hi there,
We're sorry to hear your voyage didn't live up to your expectations. Your voyage included three days spent in the pack ice, during which time all expedition staff and bridge crew spent exceptionally long hours spotting for polar bears from the bridge and other areas of the vessel. The itinerary was also adjusted to include an extensive ship's cruise of the Northwest coastline, where bears had been sighted in recent days. The disappointment from not encountering a polar bear was felt throughout the entire vessel team and was extremely unusual.
Wildlife encounters can never be guaranteed, and while our team did their utmost to maximize chances of a polar bear encounter, this unfortunately did not materialize. We note that your voyage encountered several species of whale, including bowhead whales, along with a lot of other wildlife, including Arctic foxes, walrus, seals, and the bird life for which Svalbard is famous, and hope these wildlife encounters provided you with an opportunity for photography and the thrill of encountering nature at its most raw.
Regarding your comments in relation to your experience with the Hotel Manager on board. Without knowing the full facts, we are unable to speculate on what was said. We note that the Hotel Manager in question is consistent in the positive feedback they receive from guests, and we pride ourselves on the high standards we set for our vessel teams. All feedback is taken on board and discussed with relevant individuals where necessary.
We thank you for taking the time to leave a review, and for traveling with us to Svalbard. We hope that other aspects of your experience were more positive, and that you will consider exploring with us again in the future.

An incredible trip- book it!
From initial enquiries to making the booking to joining the trip the Oceanwide staff were incredibly helpful and professional throughout. Then when we boarded the ship in Longyearbyen the entire trip exceeded my wildest hopes and expectations. The crew, hotel team, and guides were all superstars. We were very well looked after the entire time. Excellent comms, lovely people, great fun, and superlative wildife and landscapes.

Posti fantastici, equipaggio al massimo, cibo buono, sicurezza al massimo livello. Se devo fare un'osservazione, ho notato che per la sicurezza rispetto al polar bear prima delle escursioni, venivano inviati per sicurezza gli zodiac con le guide a perlustrare per quel che potevano la zona. Secondo il mio punto di vista si potrebbe fare una perlustrazione più accurata e dettagliata con l'utilizzo di un drone, che può arrivare dove l'occhio umano anche con l'ausilio del binocolo non arriva. sarebbe di minor impatto ambientale, più sicuro e più veloce e meno costoso.
Comunque TUTTI BRAVISSIMI 5 STELLE SONO POCHE!!!!

OCEANWIDE: best way to explore the Arctic Area
The landscape, but especially the HONDIUS, the entire crew, and above all the very well-trained and truly passionate guides made this trip something really special in my life.
The concept of OCEANWIDE, to create a sense of community among the travelers and to allow or even encourage a special closeness to the crew, is really great. I enjoyed often standing on the bridge and watching the scenery pass by. No matter how rough the seas were, I always felt safe on board and during the landings, and it was remarkable how attentive and caring the crew was toward all the passengers.
