Could not recommend Optilase enough for laser eye surgery. From the initial enquiry form online to the final stage follow ups the process couldn’t be more straight forward. They made everything so easy and reassuring each step of the way. The entire team are amazing and highly confident in their specialities. I wasn’t an easy patient with some of the tests required but the team were so helpful with everything. The procedure itself was completely pain free and so quick. The standard of care was amazing and the clinics spotlessly clean and so well organised. Optilase were very affordable and offer payment plans - the private insurance discount is a real bonus. The locations of the clinics was very convenient. If you’ve been thinking about it then just do it. Laser eye surgery with Optilase has been truly life changing. Thank you Optilase!

I got all the information I needed about the laser eye surgery and the girl I had my consult with was straight forward and understanding with all my queries, she was also patient but didn’t have me waiting long at all I got an appointment nearly straight away.

I got my laser eye surgery in the cork clinic in April and I couldn't rate the staff more! From consult assessment to surgery everything was explained thoroughly. Even when a slight complication occurred during healing after surgery, Sinead ensured I was looked after in rectifying it!

It truly is life changing for someone who can't bare their glasses anymore and want the freedom!

Was told We can only do the €8000 procedure to get you 20/20 vision due to age and the prescription you have. Im only 40. So then I did shopping around and found a lovely clinic up in Belfast and a complete different story. I was a perfect candidate for regular laser surgery and for €6500 cheaper after exchange rate

I had PRK done back in May. The procedure itself was quick and painless. I actually spent more time in the waiting room than on the bed!! The following up care was great. This review details my experience with Optilase for LASIK laser eye surgery, from initial consultation through post-operative recovery, which ultimately resulted in 20/20 vision.

- The Pre-Surgery Phase

​My journey began in April 2025 when I decided to pursue laser surgery, though I had no detailed knowledge of the process.
​Consultation: I booked a free consultation at Optilase in September 2025. The standard eye test was performed, along with a crucial test measuring the corneal thickness.
​Suitability: My corneal measurement was approximately 570 microns, which is thicker than the average range (520-540 microns) and thankfully increased the chance of a successful outcome. Also my eyesight was a -3.25.
​Procedure & Cost: I was recommended the LASIK procedure. The total cost of the surgery was €4,195.
​Preparation: After the consultation, I was given hydrating eye drops to use multiple times daily for the couple of months leading up to the surgery, which was scheduled for the end of November.

- Surgery Day Experience (Carrickmines Center)
​I traveled to the surgery center in Carrickmines for the procedure.
​Staff Interaction: The staff were friendly, very accommodating, and knowledgeable. They patiently answered all my pre-surgery concerns regarding potential side effects like the halo effect, glare from headlights, and dry eyes. They explained that these negative effects typically subside within one, three, or six months, depending on the person. (Note: After a week and a half post-surgery, I have been fortunate not to experience any of these effects.)
​Final Checks: On the day, they performed all the initial consultation tests again to ensure my eyes were healthy, suitable, and ready for the procedure.
​The Surgery: The surgery itself was over within 15 minutes. While lying on the chair, you are swiveled between machines. Numbing agents and anesthetic are used, meaning I felt no pain, only a distinct pressure on the eye.

​- Post-Operative Recovery and Results

​The recovery protocol was clear, and the results have been excellent.
​Immediate Aftercare: Immediately following the surgery, my eyes were very red and sore, requiring a paracetamol (which was normal). I was given protective sunglasses and a comprehensive aftercare package: antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, and hydrating eye drops.
​Downtime: Because I chose LASIK and had the procedure on a Friday, I was instructed to take the next three days off (weekend plus Monday).
​First 24 Hours: On Friday evening and throughout Saturday, I drew the curtains, took the medication, and strictly adhered to the eye drop schedule. I was restricted from reading, TV, or phone use, so I listened to podcasts.
​Day 1 Checkup: On Saturday, the pain had completely gone away, and I attended the mandatory Day 1 Post-Operation Review at Optilase.
​Full Recovery: By Sunday, I was able to do more normal activities, and by Monday, I was completely up and about with no issues.
​Current Status (1.5 weeks post-op):
​I have 20/20 vision.
​I am sleeping well (still using the protective eye shield).
​I am off the antibiotic and anti-inflammatory drops, continuing only with the hydrating drops.
​Upcoming Milestones: The aftercare schedule includes a one-day, one-week, and one-month checkup. After the one-month mark, I will be cleared for a fully regular life, including going to the gym and getting water in my eyes from showers.

​Overall, the process has been smooth, and I am extremely happy with the results.

I had the extensive PRK surgery as I want to join the Garda and it was a fantastic service from start to finish. On the day they made me very relaxed it was all very straightforward. Then they were on the end of phone for out of hours support when I had questions. Then multiple follow up appointments until everything was perfect. I could see nothing without my glasses so it’s been life changing and meant I can have the career I have wanted since I was 6 which wasn’t possible with glasses.

Quick consultation and procedure was very quick and pleasant

The Consultation went very well. I had a myriad of questions. All of which were answered by the lovely lady who tested me. She was patient. Didn’t rush me out when I felt like I was taking up too much of her time and overall very kind throughout, even sometimes repeating certain things to my mother who came in after me without any hint of being annoyed. And it was really appreciated by me :)
