The topper definitely cools me down. The only thing keeping me from giving it a 5 star rating is the noise of the fans when cooling is on high. I could easily block this out with ear plugs and will probably do that next summer.

Hi Amy, thank you so much for your review! We're so glad your Snug is keeping you cool. For the fans, there are a couple of potential remedies depending on your situation. You could check to make sure you've got the most breathable sheets possible, and that your topper is hanging a half inch past the foot of your mattress for easy air intake. Both can cause the fans to need to run at a lower speed. There is also a Fan Limit you can set in the app, but if those fans on full is something you need, that might not work for you. As an absolute last resort some sleepers toggle the Responsive Cooling off so at least the fans are at a constant speed - but most people would get too cold, it's not ideal. :) Ear plugs work too! haha. It works well for me!
I am a 67 year-old woman, lucky that I don’t suffer from hot flashes like other gals. However, I can’t sleep when my environment is too warm. I live in Arizona. After I purchased the Perfectly Snug mattress topper, it took me about six weeks to get used to it. I wear hearing aids, so the noise is not an issue. I ended up buying a pair of fleece socks to put on in the middle of the night because my feet get cold. But that’s not every night which is kind of weird, because I don’t vary the settings on the topper. The topper allows me to get good sleep without installing a mini split AC. I really like that topper does not require a subscription! And that there’s no water!

Wearing socks to bed is actually recommended by many sleep experts, though we're sorry they were getting cold. The variation likely has to do with the automatic temperature adjustments your topper makes - if your body needs more cooling on some nights to stay at your set point, because you are warmer than usual or the room is warmer, the airflow will be greater. That would be my guess. . .but it's still a mystery! 🤍 You could experiment with setting the Fan Limit a little lower, to see if that stops the cold feet - but the wisdom of that depends on how low your set point is to begin with. I have been a hot sleeper for as long as I can remember and I've tried all the cooling sheets, mattresses out there. Best bedding investment ever!
Wow! This improved my sleep dramatically. As a hot/cold couple, I've struggled to find a bedding arrangement that works for us. I've spent a lot of every evening, summer and winter, with no covers on being too hot, but still not restful while my partner had the heating blanket and down comforter in use. With a split king, I doubled down on the Euro method of each party has their own down comforter. Now he sleeps with the heat on his side, still with the down comforter. I sleep with warm feet, thank you very much, and blissfully cool, that allows me a restful slumber with some covers and a down comforter should I ever need it. This product is the solution for hot/cold couples. It is a bonus that the footprint is the bed only and doesn't require module placement nearby. No water involved and none needed for effective heat transfer.

It’s good just not great
I like the perfectly snug topper. With the price I did have a little higher expectation it works good. Just not quite as well as I was hoping for the price of it. And the fans are pretty loud on the higher settings. I haven’t had it for cold weather yet to know how the heater works. It does help the wife with staying cooler at night.

What I recommend if you do reach out is to send screenshots of your and your wife's Home, Settings, and Schedule screens - these should be the settings you usually use. Then let us know what isn't quite perfect about your Snug experience. We can recommend the right adjustments. Breathable sheets are a must - if you hold your fitted sheet over your mouth and breathe through it, and can breathe easily, that is perfect. If it's hard to breathe, we recommend looking for something like a cotton or bamboo percale weave fitted sheet.
For the fan volume, you might prefer a Fan Limit set in your app - I'd try 50-60%. It will keep the fans from going too loud, they'll run at a gentler speed for longer to keep you at your set point. Another option is to toggle Responsive Cooling off, but keep in mind that will have the fans run at a constant rate - no more automatic temperature adjustment to keep you at a chosen set point. We don't recommend this unless it's the fans changing speed at night that is disrupting your sleep. The Fan Limit adjustment usually has the exact same effect without any downside.

Great cooling but not warming topper
The perfectly snug topper is a very effective and high priced cooling pad. If you’re a hot sleeper, this is the best cooling item I have ever experienced. However, if you’re a cold sleeper, the warming is less than impressive. When we reached out to the company they said that for safety the heating is very subtle. They weren’t kidding, you can’t even feel the heat when you touch with your hand. I felt it a little as I slept with it on, but my wife requires much more heat than it provides. Finally, the return policy is very narrow (30 days) and when you do return you will receive very detailed instructions for repacking and warnings that you won’t be refunded fully if you do it wrong. For a $2,000+ item, I would expect more of a mattress company return where they come and pick it up for you.

We're thrilled to hear you enjoyed the cooling, but truly sorry to hear your wife didn't get the heating she needed. :( My sincere apologies. I'd have loved to have known what settings she was using, to ensure the heaters were enabled and the Levels were high enough for her. I'm also a cold sleeper, so in the summer my Start Phase is a Hot 8 (+8) with a length of 60 minutes or so, with a Scheduled start time (which automatically enables preheating). My foot heater is on max, and my topper is toasty warm when I get in. This requires piling the blankets on in the morning to trap the heat when the preheat starts. In the winter my Start is Hot 10 (+10).
I'd love to explain the reason for the subtle heating. 🤍 The idea with the Levels (10 cooling, 10 heating) is that each level represents about 1 degree of cooler or warmer skin temperature, and the topper automatically adjusts its heating and cooling like a thermostat. The hottest we allow the toppers to heat a sleeper is 10 degrees above a normal skin temperature (hot 10). That's why the topper itself doesn't get extremely hot - a surface that feels extremely warm to the touch is going to cause the temperature sensors to read higher than 10F warmer than an average skin temperature. But, when you're putting enough heat energy into the human body (for lack of a better term!) to make the skin consistently 10 degrees warmer than normal for hours on end, that is enough to overheat someone in their sleep. The fans will kick in to cool the sleeper/topper if the temperature rises higher than that. I still have to make my second phase of the night (Sleep Phase) significantly cooler, usually Middle 0 in the summer and Warm 3 (+3) in winter. There is a toggle in the app where heaters can be enabled or disabled, and fans can be limited for Cold Sleepers as well (I limit mine to about 30-40% to prevent a chill).
That technical information is reaching you too late, my apologies. But it might help other new sleepers. 🤍
We offer a 30 night trial from the day your topper is delivered, and if we're helping someone adjust their settings we're happy to offer an extension. We do ask that the topper is folded according to instructions to avoid damage, and to avoid oversize fees, but holdbacks are quite rare as folks are very good about it. (Which, we do not take for granted - thank you for that!) The shipping companies we use when we send you the pre-paid label are happy to pick up the topper at your home for you, this is the standard return practice. 🤍 Return instructions include a link and phone number where you can schedule the pickup. We are unable to pick up the topper ourselves, as we are a small team on the west coast, and ship our toppers all across North America.

I did not like the topper and the customer service was severely lacking.
Your response was incorrect. You provided a way to ship it back but took us to hunt you down to get the refund. You didn’t process the refund without the threat of an Amex chargeback. True story.
Your second response is in keeping with the narrative you are trying to spin. You had the topper for 3 weeks and did not take any action. You know exactly what you are doing. If you want to keep going back and forth I’m here for it. We can do this for a few more weeks if you like.
Your company has an auto responder on the email that no one is in the office anytime we emailed you. I am not upset but I hope you learn to do better.
There are several reviews online just like this one. Telling people that they can only email you during business hours is unprofessional.
If you had been as responsive to my attempts to contact you regarding the return as you are to this review, we would not be in this situation. Just food for thought.

PS: In regards to your update - your refund was scheduled to go through as soon as we completed your returned topper's inspection. 🤍 No threat of a chargeback was required! We have to inspect toppers that come back to us before refunding, because unfortunately we've had shenanigans take place in the past, with toppers returned severely damaged. We've even had people ship back old toppers for a refund and keep the new one. Our return policy advises that it can take up to 30 days for the inspection and refund, this information can be found on our website as well. Our production team responsible for building toppers is also responsible for inspections, but we are working on implementing a "bulk inspection" process to help speed things up. We are also happy to email our team to bump inspections up the queue when someone emails us a request, and in response to your feedback have implemented a new protocol proactively asking customers to please let us know if this is needed. In the meantime, here are some common culprits for the issues you're describing. For the cooling, ensure the mesh side of the topper is up, the power cords are at the head of the bed, and that the power switches are in the "ON" position. (I know this sounds basic, but we've seen all of these!) When you switch the power on it will say "Welcome," That's how you know for sure.
Triple check the power cables as well. The barrel connectors (the cylindrical cable connectors closest to the head of your bed), pull apart easily for sleep industry regulatory reasons - this is a safety feature. Check that they are firmly connected. Then, check the connecting cables at the power bricks themselves - these are much harder to push in, so please really push them together firmly! The green lights should be lit on the power bricks, with no flickering.
I started there, because that is what causes the app to fail to "find" your Smart Topper, 99% of the time. Loose power connections.
It is normal for the app to briefly say "Reconnecting" when you first open the app, because the app will search for your topper through your router/home network - it shouldn't take long, but that brief "Reconnecting" message is normal. This happens because our toppers do not connect utilizing a cloud server, but privately and direct through your router.
Going through connection process repeatedly, that could mean an apple iphone "private relay" setting that needs to be disabled, a VPN interference, or a router configured as a Guest network with increased privacy settings. Please reach out to our team if you'd like assistance checking this. They are always happy to arrange a phone call as well!
We have many cooling tips at www.perfectlysnug.com/getting-started, but for starters ensure there is no mattress protector over the topper. Check that you can breathe through your fitted sheet if you hold it over your mouth, freely and easily. Cotton or bamboo, basic percale weave work great. :) Lay on the topper, hold the cold/down button for 5 seconds, and wait for it to say "Cold Burst." Stay there, and you'll feel the cooling remove heat from your body. That tells you it is working. Our team would be able to help you optimize your settings for overnight, so please feel free to reach out! You might want to try something like Start at Cold 5 (-5), Sleep at Cold 8 (-8), wake at Cold 7 (-7) - then reach out and let us know how it goes.

Perfectly Snug = Lifesaver!
The Perfectly Snug mattress topper is a lifesaver. My husband has his side blasting cool air all night. My side starts warm (I'm always cold when I get in bed) and then cools down later. No more night sweats. No more getting out of bed to put socks on because my feet are freezing and I can't sleep--I love the foot warming feature--my feet stay comfortably warm thru the night while the rest of me stays cool. If you are on the fence, just try it. I can honestly say it has improved our sleep quality.
Some considerations:
It off gasses for a couple nights, but literally only a couple nights.
If you are extremely sensitive to texture, you may not like the mesh feel under your sheets. To be honest, I don't notice it anymore.
The sound is no louder than the fan we keep running at night for air circulation and white noise. And depending on how cool you want your side of the bed/how high you want the fans on your side, you may not hear it at all.
You definitely want low thread count, breathable sheets for max efficiency. Also *deep* sheets.
If you use a weighted blanket, you can continue to use it. Ours is 30lbs. We just don't tuck it in at the bottom of the mattress anymore.
It may take a few nights to discover your perfect temperature routine. And this may change depending on the season. The fact that it's programmable is an amazing feature. You can also customize 2 routine times, if, for example, you like to sleep in a little later on the weekends, you can make that schedule different than weeknights.
It is expensive, but for us, it has been worth every penny, especially because I haven't had a single night sweat since we started using it. I was losing my mind and a lot of sleep before this. Not to hype it too much, but really, I wish I'd found this sooner.

To combat this, we've provided a Fan Limit setting in the app. We recommend at least a 50% limit for light sleepers, I actually use 30-40%. Another option is to disable Responsive Cooling in your Settings, which will cause the fan speed to be a constant rate at all times. We don't recommend this for most sleepers though, because you can get too cold! Your Smart Topper won't automatically adjust to your body temperature if you disable this feature. With this feature enabled, the Smart Topper will automatically adjust to your body temperature during the night, based on your chosen set point.

Overpriced for minimal cooling
For the price tag, it should get (and stay) significantly cooler than it does. Any cooling effect is barely noticeable.

Some tips in the meantime, just in case -- Our topper works by cooling the sleeper to their chosen set point during Sleep and Wake phase, by default (Sleep and Wake make up the majority of the night - your topper has three phases in the app). If the topper doesn't seem to stay cool, what that means is your set point isn't low enough for your particular physiology - every sleeper is different. 🤍 You would likely benefit from a lower Sleep and Wake Phase set point, something like Cold 7 to Cold 10, or you may be one of the rare sleepers who prefers to navigate to your Settings screen in the app and toggle Responsive Cooling to "off." This will turn your Smart Topper into a non-responsive, constantly cooling full-body airflow system. The reason we don't recommend this for most sleepers is because 90% of people will get too cold, causing them to wake up with muscle tension. With that in mind, please feel free to email our team before attempting these fixes yourself, if you'd like! We would love to help.
Another thing to check is your sheets. You'll want to ensure there is no mattress protector over your topper, and that your sheets are very easy to breathe through if you hold them over your mouth and attempt to inhale and exhale. If you can breathe easy, so can your Smart Topper. We often recommend a basic bamboo or cotton percale weave for the fitted sheet, but cotton flannel can even work for those who like added softness.
