Zero Safeguarding: Completely Unsafe for Young Women
I am writing this to warn any young women, especially those new to the area or looking for a safe community, to avoid this platform entirely.
My 21-year-old girlfriend recently moved to the UK and used this service to find a peer group of friends. She explicitly requested a small group of four for brunch and was initially paired with three other young women.
However, on the day of the event, the platform arbitrarily altered the group, dropping two men over the age of 60 into a group of 21-year-old women. To make matters worse, the platform has a strict policy that only allows refunds outside of a 24-hour window yet they chose to add these men to the group within that 24-hour cutoff. This meant the users were trap-matched into a completely different, uncomfortable demographic at the last minute with zero recourse.
This thoughtless matching system caused one of the original girls to drop out, and my girlfriend followed shortly after, feeling entirely unsafe, misled, and deeply uncomfortable.
This goes far beyond a technical glitch or distaste. To blindside young women looking for peer-to-peer friendship by pairing them with men four decades older and doing so within the non-refundable window is a massive, systemic failure of basic safeguarding and common sense.
If you are a young woman looking for a secure, predictable way to make friends, look elsewhere. This platform does not care about your safety, your preferences, or fairness. Avoid.
UPDATE: After my partner requested a refund, PLY initially offered to reschedule her to a different event. She explained she wasn't comfortable with that given the circumstances and asked to proceed with a refund. They agreed to "escalate" and shortly after, unprompted, they asked whether I had written a review, and told her the review was "entirely unhelpful for this circumstance" and referred to my comments as "inflammatory". At the time of writing she has had no confirmation as to when the refund will be processed.

This review describes a booking made by another person. The reviewer has never held a PLY account, made a booking, or attended an event, so we're limited in what we can address here. We've been in contact with our member directly throughout.
For anyone reading, some corrections: PLY has no 24-hour refund window.
Activity payments are non-refundable as set out at booking, and our standard approach is to reschedule members onto another event. In this case, because two members joined the group close to the event, we chose to make an exception and refunded the booking in full. No one altered this group: events stay open until they fill, and groups range from 4 to 8 people as shown at booking. The final group was mostly members in their 20s and 30s, with two who joined later in their late 40s and early 50s, not over 60 as described. Every PLY member joins to make friends over a shared experience.
We've resolved this directly with our member, and she'd be welcome at any future event.

Matched on age alone, not interests. Disappointing.
It’s good they have a choice of different activities and I’ve always met perfectly nice people but with nothing in common. Ply is Storiboard Club rebranded. If I’d realised that beforehand I wouldn’t have signed up at twice the cost of the Storiboard fee. Plus you have to pay a deposit on some of the activities on top of the subscription fee. They don’t match you on personality/interests at all so the questionnaire is futile. You’re matched on age. That’s it. And it seems there are regulars so you’re probably going to end up running into the same faces. Not what I was looking for at all. Shame really. Their marketing promises something different.

We did want to provide a little more context around a few of the points you mentioned. PLY is indeed the next chapter of Storiboard Club, and we’re really proud of that evolution. Since rebranding, we’ve worked hard to improve the overall experience; from thoughtful matching and curated events to member support and partnerships with venues across the UK.
In terms of activity payments, these go directly toward the experiences themselves. We work closely with our venue partners to secure heavily discounted rates exclusively for PLY members, while the membership itself covers matching, curation, community features and ongoing support.
We’re sorry to hear the matching didn’t feel aligned for you. Age is only one factor we consider alongside preferences, availability, and group dynamics, but we know connection is personal and not every event will click straight away. That said, many friendships do grow from seeing familiar faces over time, which is also why we’re proud to have regular members returning week after week.
For members who prefer meeting entirely new people at each event, our customer success team is always happy to make a note on your profile. Just reach out via WhatsApp or email and we’ll do our best to tailor your experience.

Brilliant
PLY (formerly Storiboard) has been excellent. I have participated in a wide variety of their events (Karaoke, Darts, Dinner, Bowling, Film Club, Drinks) and the vast majority of people I have met have been friendly, positive, kind and supportive. Their events have allowed me to come out of my shell and build my confidence. I even organised a get together to celebrate my 40th Birthday at BAM Karaoke with a group I had previously met. Been a member since last year
Been a member since last year. Been to most of the events but am always like trying the new ones. I have met same friends who I'm still in contact with now. Only downside is I live in zone 6 east london towards essex. Not many people I've found from this area which is a shame and now the bowling has moved there are no events east and some of them can be quite far to get to.

Been to a few events now and I’ve enjoyed them all! (Favourite being the Salsa!)
They send you all the info ahead of time and I like how they break out the group into smaller groups, makes it easier to chat and to get to know everyone. Would recommend to anyone looking to make some new friends as there is something for everyone!

This platform claim to use the initial…
This platform claim to use the initial questionnaire to find the like minded people, the reality is it does not. The people are all very randomly selected and there were nothing in common between any of the attendees there. Also, 80% of the attendees already know each other - making it less meaningful for new joiners to be able to get to know each others - there was zero efforts from people to introduce each other as they also hang out a couple of times. The restaurant assigned were below average in service and food quality, it’s my first time being with storiboard but I don’t think I want to be trying another one.

We tend to have a mix of new and returning members at each event, and you’re absolutely right, when people form genuine friendships through our platform, they naturally want to come back. That’s something we’re proud of as it reflects the meaningful connections being made. At the same time, I completely understand how this can sometimes feel difficult for newcomers. We’re actively working on improving this by introducing new icebreakers, conversation prompts and hosting styles to create a more inclusive atmosphere from the get go.

Second time as fun as my first!
This week I went to the bowling evening and Film Club and enjoyed both socials so much! I had been to a Film Club some months ago and really enjoyed it but then I was away from London so when I was back this week I wanted to see if I could make new friends. I met some really friendly and genuine people both evenings and felt able to connect and feel comfortable quickly. We had a lot of fun bowling in my group and afterwards we all felt happy to swap numbers or Instagram. The Film Club also I really enjoyed, again everyone was new to me but again found able to feel comfortable and able to talk easily with my group and those from other groups! Before and after the film we all hanged out in the large lounge area and the cinema has a full bar so we could all get drinks in the lounge before and after the film if we liked. I’m already looking forward to trying the darts evening and I’d really like to try one of the dinner socials too!
Also want to thank again the StoriBoard team who are so responsive and helpful to WhatsApp texts that I have sent when unsure of something. They’ve helped me to feel encouraged and welcome and that’s really helped me as I can sometimes struggle with social anxiety. I’m really glad I’ve pushed myself and turned up and started to meet some really cool people and hopefully make some genuine friends :)

Attended an event after seeing an ad…
Attended an event after seeing an ad online. It was a meetup at one of the bars they partner with in my local city. Easy to get to, very informed so knew what you were doing and the staff were aware of the event as well which helped reduce some of the stress as I was the first present in my group.
A good little group, unfortunately we had 2 no shows and it was all men which I was a little disappointed with as like a mix but I believe this was due to the no shows. Nevertheless we had a good time and I got the Instagram of one of the fellas so definitely works.

bad experience with website but good customer service
Updated: they removed the free trial subscription I was meant to have for my inconvenience. Messaged and no replies
Had a bad experience with the website where the process to cancelling your subscription was totally obscure.
I wrote a complaint through several channels and they promptly remediated for me, so despite a bad experience I was pleased with the customer service.

Went to a meet up and felt excluded. Everyone else knew each other and were chatting in shared what’s app. There wasn’t any attempt to include me or introduce me to the group. Pretty pointless given the whole point is to make new friends and feel included.

I signed up in December 2025 for what I understood to be a one-off, three-month trial with Storiboard. During that period, I attended one meal event, where six people were expected but only three attended in total, which was disappointing.
I also attended a drinks event, where seating arrangements were pre-assigned on arrival. I was directed to a small upstairs room with uncomfortable seating, which did not provide a particularly welcoming or enjoyable experience.
As a result, I chose not to attend any further events during the trial period.
Three months later, I was automatically charged for a further three months. When I queried this and requested a refund, I was informed that the membership had converted into a rolling subscription and that a no-refund policy applied. This was not my understanding at the time I initially signed up, and I found the terms insufficiently clear.
Overall, I did not feel the service represented good value for money, and my experience did not meet expectations. I would recommend that anyone considering joining ensures they fully understand the subscription terms and cancellation policy before signing up.

On seating: our pre-booked tables are arranged to help create well-matched groups based on personalities and interests - something that's a key part of the experience for many of our members. That said, we always aim to keep things flexible, and guests are absolutely welcome to move around and mingle if they prefer.
On the subscription side, the rolling renewal details are laid out at checkout and in our FAQs with a cancellation link, but we're glad our customer support team were able to resolve this directly for you.

It was a great experience meeting people offline. The people I met at the event were really nice, and it didn’t feel awkward at all. Choose the right activities, and you’ll meet people with the same vibe—and maybe even find a genuine friend like me!

Nice choice of activities
Nice choice of activities, you get to meet everyone who attends most events, not only people in your designated group. Friendships are formed and out of storiboard meet ups and events are planned and enjoyed by new friends. The admin team are great, and keep you informed every step of your planned event.
