Rheem - Awful brand
Awful brand, awful company. Our water heater is a couple years old. We have a faulty gas valve, come to find out all Rheem products manufactured between 2019-2022 have the same issue and yet they have not had a recall. We are still under warranty, they are sending the replacement part and it will take 3-4 days to arrive via FedEx (no hot water for our family but no rush on their faulty part), I have to pay for labor to replace the part on top of waiting 4-5 days for a replacement part. DO NOT BUY Rheem brand.
WARNING: STAY AWAY!
Our hot water heater was a bust from the get go.
We purchased our product from Home Depot and once it was installed, there were numerous malfunctions and defective parts, which broke down. We had leaks, sensor issues, and eventually the shorting out of a heating element.
We reached out to customer service and got the runaround. Our first contact, the agent took our information and told us a contractor would be reaching out to us within 24 hours to schedule the installation of a new heating element. When we did not receive a call, we followed up and were told there was never a request to have the sevice done. A second person took our information, but essentially was no better because the contrator availability remained unscheduled.
With all of these problems, all occuring within a couple of weeks, we decided to return the unit to our local Home Depot. As we pushed it in on a cart, one of the associates who was handling returns said, "It must be a day for hot water heaters!" We observed another Rheem unit sitting on a cart, that was returned just before we arrived.
Because of the inconveniece of not having any available hot water, we were forced to impose on my father and his wife and stay with them, out of town, which forced us to lose work days.

Rheem Knew about Defective Products
We bought and had installed a Rheem HVAC unit in 2019, it's been nothing short of a disaster since. We have had numerous issues with heating and cooling. Now that the unit is not working. We are stuck again with the high costs of repairs. I decided to do some research to find out if this was as rare an issue as Rheem suggested. We found out it is actually very common. So common there are over 22,000 complaints just on 3 sites and there are many other sites with the same complaints. Our unit stopped working because it has another leak. And now the original company I bought from wants $2000 to fix we still have 3 years left on the warranty. So far we have spent almost 3 times what we originally paid for the unit. We called around to find a better deal, NOPE, not one of the 7 companies we called will " touch the unit ". They all say the same thing, mu unit and many others from Rheem will fail and they were tired of getting bad online reviews because Rehems products are built to fail. And most won't last for the 10 year warranty, and that Rheem knew about their defective products before they ever hit the market. Every company said they would advise getting another unit because the continued cost of repairs will most definitely be astronomical. Rheem blames the installer and the installer blames Rheem. So the shitshow begins. My advice to anyone considering ANY Rheem product is to buy from another company.
Rheem hot water heaters do not last
I have a two year old 80 gal performance hybrid water heater that failed. I am the second owner. Warranty is not transferable after 30 days of home purchase. Customer service from Rheem was horrible. Do not buy
Instant water heater - do not bother
Our electric instant water heater has not lasted more than six months at a time. Over the past two years it has been repaired or replaced more than five times. The most recent replacement failed after just five weeks.
Each time we book a service, the technician comes to assess the issue but only fixes it on a second visit, leaving our family without hot water for several days.
Extremely disappointed with both the product reliability and the service process. I would not recommend using them.
Very disappointed with Rheem.
Very disappointed with Rheem.
We purchased a Rheem heat pump water heater less than a year ago. During a severe winter polar vortex, the unit completely failed, leaving our household without hot water for nearly two weeks in record cold temperatures.
Customer service delays and miscommunication made things worse. I was initially told the issue was a failed part and waited days for a replacement due to storm-related shipping delays. After 10 days without hot water, boiling water daily just to get by, the replacement part arrived—but the unit still didn’t work.
Only then was I told the issue was likely electrical and not covered. At no point earlier was this possibility mentioned. Had it been communicated upfront, I would have contacted an electrician immediately instead of waiting almost two weeks.
The only compensation offered was $150, which does not come close to covering the hardship, missed work, and stress. Promised follow-ups never happened.
For a company that promotes reliability and customer care, this experience was extremely frustrating.
Seven Repairs in 2.5 Years. Still Under Warranty. Still Paying
I upgraded to a higher end Rheem system and paid roughly $6,000 more specifically for reliability. The selling point was avoiding major failures and extending the life of the unit. Instead, I’ve experienced repeated breakdowns almost from the start.
In just 2.5 years, the system has required seven repairs. Although the unit is technically under warranty, I am responsible for labor costs every time. Each service call has been $1,500 or more, which adds up fast. These have not been minor adjustments. They have been significant component failures, including a failed compressor.
I’ve contacted Rheem directly to try to resolve this and was told nothing could be done beyond parts coverage. At that point, the warranty offers little real value when labor costs alone are nearing replacement pricing.
This has been an expensive and frustrating ownership experience. Based on reliability, support, and total cost of ownership, I would not choose Rheem again and would advise others to look elsewhere.

I purchased a home a couple of years…
I purchased a home a couple of years ago that included a Rheem water heater. The unit has failed prematurely, well within what any reasonable consumer would expect for a product of this nature.
The tank developed leaks at the bottom and at the valve, rendering the water heater unusable.
Here are the details:
Model Number: XG50T06EC38U1
Serial Number: Q051824708
Manufacture Date: 30 JAN 2018
Issue: Tank leak at bottom and valve
While I understand Rheem’s Limited Warranty is non-transferable, many states—including Texas—recognize an implied warranty of merchantability, meaning products should function for a reasonable period under normal use. A water heater failing this quickly does not meet that standard and strongly suggests a manufacturing defect.
I contacted Rheem requesting goodwill assistance (such as a discounted replacement or parts support), but was informed they do not stand behind their products in these situations. This is unacceptable for a major brand that promotes quality and reliability.
Desired Resolution:
I am requesting Rheem provide a goodwill solution—either a discounted replacement unit, parts support, or another reasonable option. A failure of this magnitude within such a short timeframe undermines consumer confidence and brand reputation.
Not a good experience and expensive…
Not a good experience and expensive call out fee. Spent $800 trying to fix a 2.5 year old hot water service. Problem not resolved and technician who phoned was quite abrupt
We had to replace the water heater 5…
We had to replace the water heater 5 years ago. the house is only 12 years old. Then yesterday, the plumbing company discovered that the Rheem water heater was cracked and leaking. This one was only 5 years old. Then we had to pay an additional $2000 to have it replaced. This is a ridiculous situation and the quality of Rheem products is abominable!!!! Do not by from this company. You will wind up replacing it over and over again. Our house is only 12 years old and we have replaced the water heater twice.
God awful
Warranty service doesn't exist. They don't answer any requests for service. So when you buy the product there is no way to get it serviced if it doesn't work properly. My water heater software never worked properly from day one. Requested service several times and they never responded. Very poor company, take your money and run. My warranty ran out because these losers!!!
Energy Saver mode will not work for most people.
I bought a 50 gallon heat pump water heater (ProTerra) thinking I would save some energy and get some government rebates. The hardware works fine, but they have rigged the software to get a really great energy rating from the government at the expense of users running out of hot water. A 50 gallon water heater should be fine for only 2 people, but it is not when the unit is set to "Energy Saver".
To make this clearer in real world terms, it took 1 hour and 36 minutes for the hot water supply to fully recover from a 10 minute and 30 second shower.
In addition to the heat pump, the unit has resistive heating coils. "Energy Saver" almost never uses the heating coils, and the "High Demand" setting uses them way too much. If I could get to the internal settings in the software, I could make this work in a proper and efficient way, but when I called Reehm, they said there is no way to fix this, and suggested there was something wrong will my installation (there is not). A partial work around to to pay my plumber to come back and install a mixing valve that will allow a higher temperature setting on the heater. This would be a less than perfect solution for a poorly programmed unit.
I ran a test to see how long a shower I could take, starting with a fully heated tank. I ran out of hot water in 34 minutes using the Energy Saver setting.
Replacement Unit Needs Repair Out of Box - Told To Fix Myself
I had a RHS32 unit in my garage that didn’t even last 3 years before exploding and creating an indoor pond with a waterfall inside my garage. I was at work when this happened, so by the time I could run home everything was flooded and ruined in my garage. I reached out and luckily they were able to send me a new unit. HOWEVER…..the unit arrived damaged and already needing repairs. I requested they send me a new unit since the replacement was already damaged fresh out of the box. But no, they told me to fix it myself. I asked to speak with a manager and they said they wouldn’t help me. Just CRAZY. The original unit I had ruined countless clothes, shoes, mementos, and other things being stored in there. Now I have to rely on a unit that was already needing repairs to NOT destroy my garage again. ZERO understanding of my situation. ZERO compassion.
Request for information and part number
I have made multiple requests through their web site to information on a water heater I have installed in my home. System indicates a representative will contact me shortly. No contact number provided and no response to my requests. Chance of me buying another Rheem product based on the lack of response is slim and/or none. Very poor customer service.
Weather King / Rheem
Weather King / Rheem
Worst Customer Support — Even Rheem Doesn’t Know Them!
I seriously regret buying Weather King. There’s no phone number for support, and when I filled out their contact form, nobody even bothered to reply. What’s worse is that Weather King is supposed to be a division or subsidiary of Rheem, but when I reached out to Rheem, they didn’t even know what Weather King is!
This means if you have an issue, you’re completely on your own — nobody cares and nobody takes responsibility. For a company claiming to be backed by Rheem, this level of neglect is embarrassing. I hope the management at Weather King reads this and realizes how little they value their customers. If you don’t want headaches, stay far away from this brand!
I would like to leave this with you on…
I would like to leave this with you on the Rheem unit. Because I believe in telling the truth about a product. As somebody who works on these units for 34 years.I would never, ever tell anybody to purchase one of these units.Their engineers have the brains God gave a rock. And that is putting it politely. What a horrible build this unit is and I'm working on a Rheem commercial unit. And what a piece of junk this thing is. The way It is designed the way it's put together. The way they Recess their access valves. It's like their engineers got the brains that God gave a box of rocks.
They should not even get one star
They should not even get one star! Product came damaged. They will not replace parts without a serial number. Table top model Purchased through Home Depot. Neither will make this right. It is installed and the top came damaged and needs replaced. Where do I file a small claim against rheem. I’m not letting them get by with this! No serial number! What a scam!
Rheem Water Heater Fiasco
My water has been out for 3 weeks. I've called their Customer Service department numerous times. Yesterday, I got authorization to take unit bk to HD & I have to pay out of pocket since the unit is 5 years old. Versus them paying for a plumber to see if it's fixable. I have 2 jobs and I don't have any free time.
What a disaster.
