We had the most remarkable family tour with Rustic Borneo Travels. Not only everything was perfect, but we felt, in every instance, that our guides truly cared about us, both the kids and adults, and did their best to make this trip memorable. For our well-traveled children this definitely has become the most eye-opening, adventurous, and stunning journey of their life - something they will remember, draw upon, and cherish for many years to come. For adults, we were pleasantly surprised by the diversity of our trip..

An excellent experience. We had organised all transport, stay and experiences through Rustic Travels who did a good job. Guides were good. Just didn’t realise that it would rain so much and so heavily. We were constantly living in wet clothes. We stayed at Tekoma Resort for two nights, which was a lovely place to stay. Nice staff. I am a vegetarian and they catered for my needs. We had booked all meals at the resort. Just a few complaints, one is that it is so humid there that your clothes will not dry outside. There was no provision to dry your clothes. Secondly, there were resident cats roaming around the common areas which is ok most of the time. However, I don’t think it’s acceptable for them to be roaming around during meal times, especially when they jump onto the table. It is not hygienic. All in all, I would recommend Rustic Travels as well as Tekoma Resort. Make sure you wear long leggings and long sleeved tops for fear of mosquitoes, other insects and especially leaches. Insect repellent sprays will not be any good as it will get washed of with your sweat or the rain.

Our trip was very well organised and our guide (Roy) was energetic, very nice and knowledgable. We had a great experience with Rustic Borneo on Saba. I can recommend this company!

We did a 4-week trip through Borneo with Rustic Borneo in May/June 2022 - individually tailored to us and with many highlights. We always felt well advised, informed and looked after by the manager Sistine.
Everything, really everything, worked wonderfully! The guides and drivers were friendly, helpful, reliable and very competent! Especially Roy from Kota Kinabalu has grown on us! A really lovely person from whom we were able to learn sooo much about his country, culture and nature and who enthusiastically introduced us to the Malaysian food culture.
We liked it very much - Kuching and the surrounding area, the Mulu NP, Kinanbatangan River, Danum Valley and Lankayan Island are particularly noteworthy. Here we would have liked to have extended by a few days! We were very lucky with the wildlife sightings - saw the 'big five': proboscis monkeys, orangutan, elephant, crocodile and the hornbill bird. In addition, of course, much more! Despite the rain, the bats flew out of their cave. A turtle was also kind enough to lay its eggs on Lankayan. 😊
We can fully recommend Rustic Borneo and would book again at any time.
We particularly appreciate that our manager Sistine continued to accompany us during the pandemic and that we were ultimately able to make this trip.

We had an excellent trip to Borneo (Sarawak and Sabah) ... special thanks to Joe who put it together and all our guides. Our flights were met and it all went seamlessly re pick ups (we had 5 internal flights). We learnt so much from the local guides about the local history. I would highly recommend this company.

Everything worked perfect with Rustic Travel: the set up of our 1 week tour in advance taking into consideration our special wishes, the transfers between the seperate locations (always in time with friendly drivers who even waited 4 hours after our plane was delayed due to a thunderstorm) and the very nice resorts/hotels proposed and selected by Rustic Tour. A special thank you to the entire team and especially Sistine Sadlowski, our "24/7"-contact in Germany. We just came back after 2 weeks vacation. We were very satisfied with everything. The guides did a very good job. Best Matt and family.

I'm sorry to say this but I'm still so shocked about our Transfer from Cameron Highlands to Kuala Besut (Malaysia) and Perhentian Islands with "rustic borneo"s travel partner (Mr. Han) that it is really hard for me to find words.

Me and my girlfriend feel paniced on this transfer more than once. I knew that this would be a group transfer which was absolutely ok for us as we did group transfers in several countries on our trips to cambodia, vietnam, thailand, china, costa rica, kuba, etc. just to name a few. But all of them were more relaxing and safe than this hell-ride. It was exhausting and extremely dangerous and as we paid a lot for this transfer to "rustic borneo" I really cannot accept this outcome.

What was horrible (summarized):
- Whole Transfer consisted of 2 Trips (by Bus), 1 very long stay, and 1 dangerous ferry ride (by Speedboat) (~8 hours in total)
- 1st Trip was 3 hour ride by a driver that just drove crazy aggressive, always with one hand of course and very harsh and unfriendly in any kind of communication (he just hit me once when I accidently put my feet on the seat just to get in the right position for seating as the seats in this bus were really destructed).
- Then we had a "bus change" at some kind of a car stop or bus station. 1,5 hours we stayed there. One and a half!!! After this time, we were meant to be driven to Besut for another 3 hours. Shortly before finally leaving this place everyone waiting there realized: "They [Mr. Han's Agency] don't have enough Buses for us".
- So we (~26-28 travellers) were put into 2 buses (with ~12 seats each bus) and another ridiculous drive began with aggressive driving, no safety and no room for relax in this bus. For 3,5 hours. It was horrible. Again.
- After we luckily made it without accident to Besut, the last but biggest madness began: They knew about the amount of travellers coming to Besut for the ferry to Perhentian Islands hours or even days before. But all they managed to organize (looking at you Mr. Han again) was 2 speed boat ferrys with maximum allowance of "12 people" as the sign on the boat said. Well no problem for Mr Han (and therefore also Rustic Borneo) it seems: We were put on these boats with no live-wests and crossed the ocean to reach the islands.

And please, Rustic Borneo, don't tell me that you can't do anything about the quality level of execution by your partner "Mr. Han Travel". After we survived this trip I did some research and since years (!!) so many people claim that this travel agency is hell. Why are you still having this agency as your favorite transfer partner for this route? I still can't believe that I paid so much for this madness.

I think we are one of the first German customers in reviewing Rustic Travel in Trustpilot: even though our trip has not yet started I was deeply impressed by the enthusiastic, flexible and at all times reliable services by their German representative, Sistine Sadlowski. Sistine organized a trip that met all our locality wishes and took into consideration our restraints. Even in small details she made helpful proposals and was available (almost) 24/7. I can only congratulate Rustic Travel on such a customer oriented team member serving the German customers.

We had the best guide ever in Borneo and would highly recommend both the travel agency and our guide Peter.

We just finished our wonderful trip to Borneo,(and Bali) arranged by Rustic Borneo. We are very satisfied with our trip and everything was well planned. We were six persons two in the 60´ss, two in the 40´s and two kids aged 10 and 13.
From our first contact with Lotte we felt save and she understood our wishes and changed the tour after our wishes and gave ideas and inspiration. We always had a fast response on my emails and i loved that we could book some things on our own, and Rustic Borneo the rest. Including free choice if we wanted them too book our flights or if we wanted to do it ourselves. Very good service.
All of the guides were kind, but especially Ken who spent two days with us from Kota Kinabalu to Sepilok and Shahniza (eco tours) who we also spent two days with, from Sepilok and in Sukau were excellent. They were kind, professional, smiling and service minded. Ken really did what he could to make the days as good for us as possible. Understood our wishes, waited and took care of my mom when the walk in the rainforrest was a bit to hard, and even went looking for my dads camera which he lost during the walk in the forrest and tree tops. Shahniza even arranged birthday cake and birthday song from the staff for my daughters 11. years birthday in Sukau.
All in all we are very satisfied and will not hesitate to use Rustic Borneo agian.

In Feb & March 2018 we were travelling through Malaysia and Borneo with RUSTIC BORNEO.

It was one of the best and most beautiful journies of our lifes. We liked Malaysia and Borneo a lot - the people and the nature were amazing! - and Rustic Borneo made our trip even more unforgettable because of their perfect organisation and planning.

Everything, from the pick-ups at the airports to driving into the rainforest, was planned well and executed professinally.

The guides in the jungle (e.g. Akhmal and Dido) and in the Kuala Lumpur (Mr. Tan and his female colleague) did a perfect job to enhance our experience of Malaysia! We had great moments with people and culture over there and enjoyed our 18 days in Souteast Asia a lot.
Everybody we met in Malaysia was contributing to this wonderful experience.
Thanks to the Rustic Borneo Team aspecially Sistine :-) and the local guides, that this holiday will stay in our memory forever!

Wir sind 18 Tage im Feb./März/2018 mit Rustic Borneo unterwegs gewesen und es war der bester und schönste Urlaub unseres Lebens. Nicht nur weil das Land Malaysia/Borneo einfach ein Traum war und die Menschen die uns begegnet sind so nett waren, sondern weil auch das Reisebüro eine tolle Arbeit leistet indem sie die ganze Reise bis auf das kleinste Detail perfekt durchplanten.

Wir hatten eine tolle Zeit und extrem schöne und unvergessliche Erlebnisse im Regenwald mit unserem Guide Akmal in Danum Vallly und Dido in Kinabatangan KWR und genauso lustige Momente in Kuala Lumpur mit Mr. Tan und seiner Crew. Jede einzelne Person, die uns in diesem Urlaub begleitet hat, hat uns seine eigene Sicht auf das Land/Kultur/Leute nahe gebracht und uns damit wieder ein großes Stück in unserem Leben bereichert.

* Sukau Lodge - 2 nights with a full day in between before early morning transfer to Lahad Datu and on to the Borneo Rainforest Resort
*Borneo Rainforest Resort - 2 nights with full day plus 1/2 day before transfers back to KK
* KK - two nights with full day in between plus day before pick up for flights to KL and on to Sydney
