Sending the biggest thank you!!!

Sending the biggest, most grateful shoutout to the incredible nursing team at @rutlandhousevetgroup right now! ❤️🐾

My boy Harvey has just had cruciate ligament surgery and is currently staying at the hospital to recover. Because he suffers from severe separation anxiety, I have been an absolute nervous wreck about leaving him.

But the amazing vet nurses have gone completely above and beyond to settle him in. They’ve given him endless reassurance and even tucked him in with some teddies to cuddle so he feels safe, calm, and loved. 🧸

It means the world to know he is in such gentle, compassionate hands while he’s away from home. Thank you all so much

Saw the surgeon when we collected him . Wonderful guy Bart . Reassured us that the surgery went well and the whole team have been on hand to answer my questions over the weekend .

Being a vet is hard your reputation rests with the outcome of your patient I suppose . Yes it costs a lot but I wouldn't put my dog in anyone else's hands ....

Please DO NOT use Rutland

Please DO NOT use Rutland. We used the Culcheth branch. They will make you pay for unnecessary costly treatment. We were ripped off by £1000s. We questioned the frequency of ultrasound scans only to be confronted by being told they are professionals and know what is best. Sorry but I know my dog better than you and you have already told me you have little experience of my dog's condition. Time has proved the case nearly a year on. I WILL be making a formal complaint and I will let others know what you are like. Other Pet owners in Culcheth have experienced similar with Rutland. Please do your research before signing up to this practice. You will be fleeced. It will be their plan how your pet is treated, not yours. THE PLAN IS.... find a different vet

We put our dogs life in this vets…

We put our dogs life in this vets because we thought they were the best. How wrong we were. We took our 11 year old dog Billy several times with a terrible cough and vomiting. The first vet we saw said he had inflammation in his lungs. He didn't improve after being prescribed Metacam. We then saw another vet, who advised us to take him off a collar and put him on a harness so it wouldn't press on his throat. He said it was a collapsing trachea. He said we could give him human paracetamol, and because of Billy's weight, a very muscular 37kg bull breed, we were to give him 3 paracetamol a day. My husband didn't agree with this and only gave him 1 per day. After time, Billy wasn't improving, so much so that, he was admitted for an ultrasound on his tummy. Imagine the shock, when we picked Billy up, to find they had also done xrays, which we did not consent to. £1029 later and we are still unsure as to what is the problem. Our beloved dog now weighs 28.4kg, as he cant seem to keep his food down. We were told there was nothing nasty going on, and that it was gastrointestinal. We were given more medicine, which js the equivalent to human omeprazole and gaviscon. This experience has been horrendous and stressful from beginning to end. We will now be taking Billy to a new Vet, one who actually cares about the animal and not using the business to make extortionate amounts of money!!

Recently visited with my elderly dog

Recently visited with my elderly dog . Young vet said that he had ‘quite a lot of notes .’
My dog is 13 , goes to the vet just once a year and had no health issues, so really minimal notes covering 13 years .
I was offered many costly tests and euthanasia. He did say this would be costly and just give me answers , not a resolution.
When I advised that I would take him home and put to sleep , I was offered various tablets . I feel that the vet dismissed him as he is old , didn’t take an interest really. I’m not in denial at losing my dog but after a few days , he has improved greatly ,I’m quite disappointed at Rutlands service on that day . I felt like he just saw us as a money making opportunity. Not much empathy was shown to a previous couple who had just had their dog put down either .

Deeply traumatising experience and ongoing concern for animal welfare

Between 18th November 2023 and 23rd February 2024, I took my beloved cat, Oscar, to Rutland House 22 times. That’s right. Twenty two separate times - desperate for help.

He was suffering from hypersalivation, constipation, severe lethargy, and his mouth smelled unmistakably of rotting flesh.

Each visit, I was told it was a ‘gastro issue’ though no one could ever tell me exactly what kind.

He was repeatedly given anti-sickness medication, antacids, and several enemas but nothing improved.

Despite my constant concern, I was made to feel like an over-anxious owner.
I was literally told by one vet that I was ‘stressing him out by bringing him into the vets repeatedly and un necessarily’ and even advised not to return for 3-4 weeks, despite clear signs he was deteriorating.

I begged them to check his teeth, but I was told every time that they were fine.

Only after I booked a routine scale and polish suggested by a sympathetic receptionist who could see how desperate I was did anyone finally look properly.

During that procedure, five teeth were removed along with what they described as a root abscess.

The wound, however, would not heal afterwards.

They booked him in to have the wound re-stitched, but before the operation could take place, a visiting vet called Erica intervened (thank god).

She phoned me personally and said she had stopped the procedure because, in her professional opinion, there was clearly something far more serious going on than a simple dental abscess.

Following her advice, I took Oscar to a different, specialist veterinary centre, as by that point I had completely lost trust in Rutland House to continue his care.

It was there, after proper investigation, that Oscar was finally diagnosed with an extremely aggressive squamous cell carcinoma - a cancer that had been missed for months.

By that stage, he had already endured two general anaesthetics, three sets of blood tests, an ultrasound, endless misdiagnoses, and over £5,700 in costs.

He had also suffered months of unnecessary pain that could have been eased far sooner if anyone had truly listened.

Unfortunately, Oscar had gotten to such a bad state, I had to put my beautiful boy to sleep, and it destroyed me.

To be told that I was making my cat ill from stress after everything I had done to get him help was devastating.

Oscar was my world. Gentle, intelligent, and trusting. He deserved care, not dismissal.

Appointments were often delayed or missing entirely.

Once, I arrived with a written appointment card only to be told my appointment hadn’t been put on the system, and we then had to see a nurse instead of a vet.

It has taken me nearly two years to write this because of how traumatic it was to lose him this way.

But after today, I couldnt stay silent any longer.

I called Rutland House today desperate for help for my other cat, who recently had a leg amputated and was in visible distress.

I was told they wouldn’t see him because he is registered with another vet.

Even after I explained and asked for any advice at all to help him, they refused to help and simply deflected responsibility.

This pattern shows a disturbing trend: profit and procedure appear to take priority over the welfare of the animals.

There seems to be little willingness or interest in actually helping pets in genuine distress, and empathy is notably absent.

For a practice that calls itself a hospital, their lack of accountability, compassion, and duty of care is shocking.

I expected at the very least a formal apology for the neglect Oscar endured. Because it was NEGLECT.

Instead, I have been met with silence and now, further indifference when another animal needed urgent help.

High prices do not equate to quality care here.

Please, think very carefully before trusting this practice with your pets life.

Genuinely care

Always used these vets in Bryn, Haydock and recently St Helens hospital. I rushed into the hospital with an emergency for a cat in distress. He was immediately rushed in and surrounded by helpful staff and vets. He was helped and admitted straight away. The staff there were all so kind and you could see that each ot them genuinely cared. They even sent me updates via email with video and photo updates. My labrador has had in stays with this hospital too and I've felt reassured that my fur baby will be safe and well cared for by them. Huge thank you to all the staff there. You do an amazing job.

Charged £178 to apply spot on!

Took my 2 Cat's Protection kittens for second vaccinations and was recommended to have their first flea and worming treatments carried out with a vet due to their size. I made an appointment and attended on time. There was a lengthy wait (over 40 minutes) and the vet consultation took a total of 9 minutes, during which the vet left to get the actual Spot On style treatments, therefore approximately 4 minutes per kitten actual vet time. The treatment was applied, I asked a couple of questions about their bowel habits then left. I was therefore flabbergasted to pay the bill of £178! For 9 minutes maximum with a vet, applying spot on treatment! Needless to say I shall revert to purchasing online and applying myself....honestly, the bill was a rip off!

I took my 15 year old poodle Jack to…

Note that i would have scored higher but for the lack of any service and care at the end of my boys life.

I took my 15 year old poodle Jack to Rutland house just over eight weeks after his surgery.
The consultant was superb. But the news was not good. So i made the most heartbreaking decision of my life to put him to sleep and end his suffering.

I told the surgeon i wanted to cremate Jack and he said the team would be in touch. This was Friday 23.05.25.

I went in on Saturday morning to convey my wishes that i would like to go to Leyland myself and say my final goodbye. The receptionist and bereavement nurse advised that due to the bank holiday he would be leaving at 5am Tuesday morning. As i stressed that I could not do this bit.😥

I booked the day off and Rutland house rang me at 9am to ask what arrangements did i want to make!
So in a nutshell. Jack did not leave on the arranged transport at 5am🤬
So note trying to blame me, when I made it very clear for my wishes.

So i got rather upset and decided to pick him up myself and sort the crematorium bit on my own.

To say the experience was a DISCRACE would be an under estimate.
So two people standing in front of me on Saturday could not put my boy on the already arranged transport as the woman said today.oh we were waiting for you to advise. 🙄what in gods name do you have to do.

It was bad enough to not even say goodbye to my boy, but i will not tolerate in competence.

Thanks Rutland house for making a sad situation an absolute nightmare. Not how i want to remember my boy.
Really thanks for that!

Await the formal complaint for your total lack of compassion.

Oh and just to state Jack was a referral from another vet.

Never again.

Not recommended

Sadly this place has become about money rather than animal care. The vets and nurses in the main are good but the admin staff are dreadful. If you’re looking for a great experience for you and your pet this is not the place.

Receptionists are insensitive

The vet and nurse were so lovely, however, one of the receptionists, specifically a young blonde one was very insensitive. We unfortunately had to get our pet euthanised and when the receptionist came in to get the payment, she said she forgot our pet’s name. She could’ve easily looked on her screen for our pet’s name to ensure she gave off a caring exterior. But no, I had to tell her the name of my pet that had just been put down.

Unfortunately the receptionists don’t care, I overheard a woman telling the other receptionist how her dog is very anxious and the receptionist didn’t even respond.

All in all, the veterinarians and nurses are very nice but that’s about it.

STAY CLEAR, THEY LET MY DOG DIE.

R.I.P. BAILEY OUR 11-YEAR-OLD GOLDEN LABRADOR X
I’m heartbroken to share the experience we had with Rutland House Vets when we lost our beloved dog, Bailey. While we understand that the veterinary field can involve difficult decisions, we feel deeply let down by the level of care and the missed opportunities that ultimately cost Bailey his life.

He was seen by the head vet Steph.
Steph was very through on examining Bruno.
Our Bruno can be reactive at times but he behaved perfectly due to Steph putting him at ease talking to him.

Do not Recommend

I am very disappointed in their service. No continuity of service ie: never seen same vet twice and all they seem to be interested in is Pounds not pets. I would not recommend and they certainly do not hae any empathy for the pets they treat. Unfortunately, they seem to be the only ones who provide an emergency service however, you can go to MediVet in Alderhey, Liverpool.
