Terrible Booking Experience
This would have been our first time in Six By Nico but due the really bad booking experience, we will not be going.
Made a booking last week using their online booking system but received no confirmation email so I tried calling the branch. It went to voicemail so I left a message.
Having had no reply, I called them again yesterday and left another voicemail and also sent an email to their customer experience email address.
Still no reply to either the voicemail or the email.
Only problem I see is that they have now stored my payment details, which I'm not happy with.
Definitely would not recommend based on the terrible booking experience.
Absolutely terrible service
Absolutely terrible service. They say you have the table for 2 hours, but there was a 30-45 minute wait between courses! over 3.5 hours to get the meal!
The first course was mush, you'd to lick it off a bit of paper..... and it got worse from then. Staff were obtuse to say the least & it was difficult to even get a drink between the long wait for food....they then added a £10 per person service. Avoid!
Manchester Deansgate
Manchester Deansgate - The food was generally very good but we were seated near the toilets and the unsavoury smell was unpleasant. We asked to be moved but the best they could do was a couple of tables away so it was still a bit unpleasant. The service was lacking as they were slow with drinks and 3 of the courses were presented with no cutlery. We were told it would be a 20 minute wait for the final course and when we objected it arrived immediately. The bill was reduced because we were unhappy but it was still £300 for a sub-standard birthday celebration for 4.
Fab Menu
We chose the 'Childhood Menu' to celebrate our daughters birthday! the restaurant, staff and food were all perfect from start to finish. Love it so much have booked to try the 'amalfi' menu.
After receiving a gift voucher
After receiving a gift voucher, my daughter and I chose the ten‑course Street Food menu in Glasgow. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The venue was lovely, the staff were welcoming, and they explained every dish. The food was well presented and tasty, and the mocktails were made with fresh fruit. The portions look small, but they’re surprisingly filling. I’d describe it more as a food experience than a regular restaurant visit. It was better than I expected, and we had a great afternoon together.
Ruined a special occasion
Having been a loyal supporter of Six by Nico since it first opened, I never imagined I'd be writing a review like this.
I booked Lennox on 19 May to celebrate my partner's 50th birthday. We'd been looking forward to it for weeks.
When we arrived, we were shown to a window seat with high stools. Following recent cancer treatment, I have mobility issues and simply couldn't sit safely or comfortably on them. I explained this to the receptionist, who said she would see what she could do.
Although there were several empty tables for two visible in the restaurant, I was told they were all reserved and that nothing could be done. I was also told that I'd booked a window seat. I genuinely don't believe I would have done that, as I actively avoid high stools because of my mobility.
What disappointed me most wasn't that they couldn't move us, it was the complete lack of empathy. Once I'd explained the circumstances, and that this was a special birthday celebration booked over a month in advance, I expected a little understanding or an attempt to find a solution.
Instead, we left feeling embarrassed, upset and unwelcome. As we walked out, the booking cancellation email arrived on my phone, which felt like adding insult to injury.
Thankfully, La Vita Spuntini welcomed us without hesitation and saved what was left of my partner's birthday.
This isn't about wanting compensation. It's about customer service. A little compassion and common sense would have made all the difference.
Sadly, after years of supporting Six by Nico for special occasions, this experience has left us with no intention of returning.
Hi Folks
Hi Folks, I’m Quite gutted. I live in London but my first time was in Edinburgh, I was shocked as to how good it it was.
Ive been to a few locations, But today in Fitzrovia , and trying the 10 course menu, I’m not sure I’ll return. I felt part of this amazing place and that why i kept returning. Tonight as usual the staff were incredible, but when i needed to complain with the food, i could see they’re reactions, OH dear 6 by, have you sold out ?, Tonight was a very serious change. Every meat dish including the fish was like cardboard, All sauces were Not from your kitchen,, you had a good thing, but you’ve either sold out or sold your sole ,or you have lost interest.
I spread the word for many years, ,,, What wen’t wrong ?
Bad coordination!
Dear Six by Nico Team,
I am writing to raise a formal complaint regarding a very disappointing experience at your restaurant last Tuesday 9 of June at 19:30 Dublín. I feel it is important to share this, particularly because one of the main reasons I have always chosen your restaurant is the high standards you are known for.
Unfortunately, on this occasion, those standards were not met.
Upon arrival, I was asked by the manager whether I had a reservation. I confirmed that I did, yet it seemed this was not properly understood, and I was told to wait approximately 10 minutes for a table. Eventually, someone came to seat us, but the process felt disorganised and unclear.
Once seated, we were not offered any assistance with our coats. This is something I consider important, especially as there was no obvious place to store them. I placed my coat myself and informed the staff member where it was located. However, she later removed it and placed it elsewhere without explanation. When we were leaving, my coat was found on the floor with other items placed on top of it, and the staff member assisting us struggled to locate it. I found this careless and quite disrespectful.
Service throughout the evening was also very slow. We waited approximately 32 minutes before asking about our food. When we did, we were told the dishes would arrive shortly, but this delay was already excessive. When the food did arrive, some of the dishes were cold despite being intended to be served warm, which was disappointing.
Additionally, there were long gaps between courses, which disrupted the flow of the meal.
At the beginning of the evening, we clearly requested that no dishes containing chocolate be served. This request appeared to be ignored, as a chocolate dish was later brought to our table. When we questioned this, the response we received was simply, “So you don’t want it?” This felt dismissive and not in keeping with the level of service expected at your restaurant.
Finally, I observed that the manager appeared rushed and distracted throughout the evening. I also noticed a car, which I believe was connected to staff, parked in a disabled space outside. This added to the impression of a lack of professionalism.
Overall, the experience felt disorganised, inattentive, and far below the standard I have come to expect from Six by Nico. I hope you take this feedback seriously and use it to improve future service.
I look forward to your response.
Kind regards,
MEHALL
I bought a digital voucher but…
I bought a digital voucher but unfortunately I inserted the wrong e mail address for the recipient. I have e mailed the general manager & the voucher dept but have had no reply. I have also phoned head office & 6 nationwide restaurants but only get an answer phone so left messages but again no reply.
Lovely experience and great food as always
Have been to Birmingham restaurant a few times and recent visit was similar to previous visits. Great food a brilliant experience and any issues on the night sorted by the staff.
Some slow courses as the place was busy but overall we will absolutely be back
Gift voucher expired after only 3 months
Disappointed that a Christmas gift voucher became worthless after only 3 months and no goodwill solution was offered. I’ve contacted customer services but had no success.
Very disappointed with my experience with Six by Nico.
My partner bought me a Six by Nico gift voucher as a Christmas present. What neither of us realised was that it was only valid for three months. Given that most gift vouchers are valid for at least 12 months, this was not something we reasonably expected.
We had previously enjoyed Six by Nico’s cook-at-home meal boxes during COVID and were genuinely looking forward to finally experiencing the restaurant in person. Unfortunately, when we came to book, we discovered that the voucher had expired and was now worthless.
I contacted customer services to explain the situation and ask whether any goodwill solution could be offered. I wasn’t seeking a refund, only the opportunity to enjoy the experience that had been purchased for me. This was refused.
I fully accept that I should have checked the terms sooner. However, I think it is reasonable to expect a gift voucher to remain valid for longer than three months, particularly when it is presented as a gift experience.
If you are considering buying a Six by Nico voucher as a gift, I would strongly recommend checking the validity period very carefully before purchasing.
Very underwhelming experience, sadly, especially considering the price we paid and the high expectations built from looking up the place online and on its website.
The food was quite bland and the portions were small. Some dishes were good, but the rest not so much, and the whole experience felt very rushed by the staff. We expected a fine dining experience, but instead it left us feeling disappointed and underwhelmed.
We visited for the Seoul Korean theme. Some dishes were very basic and had barely any flavour at all, especially the first starter course. The rest were okay, but not impressive by any means. The cocktails were actually good, so we did enjoy those.
The service staff were polite and good at explaining the dishes, but they always seemed to be in a hurry and rushed us through the menu very quickly. At one point, we were asked three times if we had finished with our course when we were clearly still eating it. There was also some broken glass right next to our table, close to our feet, which could easily have been stepped on. Staff also took their time clearing that up, which was disappointing.
We had a gift voucher worth £150, which we used for the experience, and the final bill came to around £175 including the service charge. A £2 donation was automatically added to the bill, which we found a bit odd. We didn't remove it because we didn't want to seem difficult, but we would have appreciated being asked whether we wanted to contribute rather than having it added automatically. It felt quite strange, and we've never encountered that before.
Overall, I would not choose to return to this venue or recommend it to friends, which is sad considering how excited and hyped we were to try it and have a lovely evening. For the money charged, the experience simply did not live up to expectations. A 2-star review overall, at a push.
That said, this is simply our honest experience from our visit. We'd be happy to give Six by Nico another chance if the venue manager would like to reach out and address some of the concerns raised above, as we genuinely wanted to enjoy the experience and leave with a much better impression.
Don't care about new mums
I was a regular customer, dining at 6 by Nico every 6 weeks for the last few years, never alone, mostly group of 4-6.
I have purchased vouchers at the Christmas time on sale, two vouchers for 2 people each. Usually the vouchers are valid 6 months min. This one, surprisingly , was only 3 months - something I have missed on and wasn't clear when purchasing the vouchers.
As a new mum with a little baby at home, it is not easy to organise the time out of the house. But I wanted to go there for my brother's bday and while booking the table it became apparent that the voucher is no longer valid (it was 6 days after it expired)
I have messaged 6 By Nico straight away asking if they could honour this and gave my reasons. I did not receive a response at all. Few weeks later I have chased and after another week I finally got a reply with not expected outcome of not being able to extend the voucher. I have asked if as a goodwill geusture they can at least provide extension for 2 not 4 people and I also got a "No".
As a regular customer, someone who introduced tens of people to the business but mostly, as a new mum, I was really shocked and disappointed how inflexible the company is.
Rude Staff
Very rude and arrogant staff. I went for a drink at Six by Nico in Oxford. I sat outside for 10 minutes without being served. I asked at the entrance and the lady there explained that they didn’t have enough staff to serve outside. I said no problem, I’ll just order at the bar. I ordered a beer at the bar. Then a waiter came up to me and told me off for ordering at the bar. He said that in this case he could allow it and take my payment. I left the beer and left the place. Won’t go back.
Unable to redeem a Six by Nico voucher…
Unable to redeem a Six by Nico voucher due to lack of availability before expiry. Customer service was slow to respond and ultimately offered no flexibility or alternative solution. Disappointing outcome given the circumstances.
Great Experience
We had an excellent 6 course Soeul tasting menu today at Birmingham restaurant The food was lovely and full of flavour. Our waitress was so helpful and explained every course to us in detail. We will definitely return
Big company wrong doing customers and don't reply to negative reviews it appears STEER CLEAR
Bought £100 worth of vouchers in the black friday sale and planned to use them in the Birmingham restaurant from my birthday in June believing they had a standard 6 month expiry. However, I have just tried to use them and realised they only had 3 months. I have emailed the team and been told there is nothing they can do to extend them! There is always something that can be done, they are just choosing not to. They didn't even offer any of it. Disappointed is an understatement. £100 is a lot of money and it was a genuine mistake. SHAME ON YOU LOT... REALLY BAD ADMIN!!!
Not the best meal of all times
Deansgate Manchester. Not the best meal of all times. There was a bad sewage smell in the restaurant. The waiter opened all doors and windows which helped but it was cold so coat was worn throughout. Meal was ok. Fish was very good but beef course was cold. Overall a let down for what was a very expensive meal.
We attended Six by Nico in Birmingham…
We attended Six by Nico in Birmingham for the Korean theme week. My girlfriend is Korean, so she was really excited about it.
Unfortunately, the food itself felt like a pretty weird interpretation of Korean dishes, to the point where we couldn’t really call them Korean. We had the 6-course menu each, along with the 5-course cocktail pairing.
The cocktails were very good, but the food itself could definitely have been better.
On a positive note, the overall experience was pleasant from the very start. The person who greeted us and the waiters were professional, friendly, and made us feel welcome.
In my opinion, it was a bit overpriced, but I know that’s subjective, so I’m not letting that affect the star rating too much.
Overall, nice service and great cocktails, but the Korean food theme missed the mark for us.
Mabs
Haven’t had food here but was ment to.
We got our booking time mistaken and was charged
But the assistant manager and I apologies I cannot recall his name refunded up the full amount after attempting to book us in for later that night.
