Unsolicited award nomination with little evidence of real evaluation
We were contacted by SME News regarding an award nomination for our platform, but the outreach did not even correctly identify our company. This suggests the nomination was based on superficial scraping rather than any meaningful review.
The process appears structured to encourage nominees into optional paid promotional packages. While the company presents this as an award programme, our experience gave the impression of a marketing funnel rather than credible independent recognition.
In our view, businesses should approach these nominations with caution and do proper due diligence before engaging.

Our awards programmes are based on a combination of internal research and industry insight, and nominations can come from a variety of sources, including online voting forms, third-party recommendations, and internal reviews. We acknowledge that inaccuracies can occasionally occur, and this should have been identified during our review process, and we apologise for this not being correctly actioned.

We would also like to clarify that there is no obligation for nominees or winners to purchase any of the packages offered. Don't be fooled...
After their "internal research" we were nominated to join an award for our exceptional customer service. This despite the fact we are not trading! These are purely money making exercises for the media company, looking to take cash off of your suppliers to produce an advertorial for their profit.

We sorry for the inconvenience and confusion this has caused, I have asked for further information from you regarding this review for us to investigate further.
We do have an internal research team who research all nominees after they have opted into being considered for the award program, our process incudes visiting the nominee’s website and companies house which would have flagged the business is not trading. Though for initial selection for the award this may not have flagged this due to the variety of sources we acquire our nominees from as well as offer third party voting. With supporting information, I will be more than happy to investigate this further for you.
Our awards look to support UK SMEs and provide recognition to those who have excelled in their field and provide advertising opportunities to them. All our awards are free to enter and win, every winner receives a complementary package which includes an SEO optimised winners listing on our website which is customizable, access to the winners press release. While we do offer additional paid opportunities, though these are offered after an individual or business has won and do not impact your chance of winning and are completely optional and are not required to market your award.
