**AVOID AT ALL COSTS** Like many other reviewers here, I too placed an order which failed, then I found that my card details had been compromised and been used for multiple fraudulent activities. I received a replacement card in Jan 19 and I placed another order. Lo and behold, this card was also used to purchase items fraudulently.
I only wish I'd seen the reviews prior to placing my orders.

Tried to order some childrens books but It kept saying transaction failed and asked me to enter card details again and again. A few days later I had a fraudster call confirming my name address and who I banked with claiming they were from my bank and that card payments had been made via Google pay on the other side of the country and that I need to respond to a text he would send so I could cancel this and which would confirm my email address. I hung up and called my bank and obviously the call I received had not been form them and if I had followed the link sent via text it would have activated a Google pay account. DO NOT USE THIS WEBSITE

Awful company, should be shut down.

Placed an order, they cancelled it, then my card & bank account was hacked, loads of transactions totalling hundreds!!!

Then my email account was hacked & i received threatening emails from my own email address to myself!!!

So yes, if you like to be cheated & conned go for it...otherwise steer clear!!!

Had an experience similar to others- order was pending for 7 days and then cancelled by them, then they have stolen my card details. Luckily it was picked up by the fraud team at the bank v v quickly but please don’t use these thieves- wish I’d checked reviews before I bought!

My 11 year old daughter found this website and was really pleased as she thought she had found some books cheaper than Amazon and therefore could buy more for her birthday. I purchased the books on 04/01/19 and on 12/01/19 I had an email saying that my card had been declined. I would usually have been more on the ball checking out the website and checking on the delivery, but I'd been ill for 2 weeks and it slipped my mind.
I was surprised that my card was declined as I have good credit and that is what prompted me to search for reviews. Thanks to the reviews on here I have just contacted my bank and cancelled my card. As far as I can tell I've not had any fraudulent activity, but my daughter is very upset as she thinks it's her fault, especially as she searched the company herself and saw that some people have had thousands of pounds taken. I have told her it isn't her fault, but as a young person she doesn't understand how people can do such dishonest things, plus she is disappointed not to get her books!

Reported them to action fraud and had my card cancelled. Jokes on them cause I had remote purchases turned off through my mobile banking app (barclays) and so received a text saying payment had been declined when they did decide to try my card. Usually very careful when it comes to online shopping but they've made their site look very legit, McAfee secured DOES NOT protect you from fraud. DO NOT PLACE AN ORDER.

Stole my bank details and used them to make fraudulent payments in excess of £500.
I'm so angry I didn't check this site before making a purchase, I'll never make this mistake again. This website is claimed to be legitimate on gov.uk, including details of the guy that is doing this.

I have ordered something and the payment was pending for 6 days. After that luckily I have read the reviews here and cancelled my card straight away with the bank and I was so lucky I did. I've got an email today that my order is cancelled because the payment didn't go through:) Thank God! Thank you everyone for the feedbacks before!!!

DO NOT USE SMYTHS BOOKS. IT IS A SCAM WEBSITE. THEY WILL ONLY USE YOUR CARD FOR FRAUDULENT PURPOSES. I HAVE SPOKEN TO MY CARD PROVIDER AND THEY ARE AWARE AND DEALING WITH THE POLICE.

Ordered a book ten days ago and when I checked why I hadn't received it, it just said payment pending which I thought was strange. Then I had a phone call from "NatWest" to tell me about fraudulent activity. He said someone had tried to look my card to their Samsung phone and that he's sending me a text with a code which I need to tell him in order to stop it happening. The text was actually from NatWest with an activation code to link my card to Android pay app. Then it dawned on me about the payment pending on Smyth's books and I checked the reviews and have now cancelled my card!
I think I trusted the website because it sounded familiar, like Smyth's Toys - totally dodgy though even if it does have the padlock on the web address bar!! I'm reporting to actionfraud.police.uk as the bank aren't doing anything further to investigate it. Surely this website should be taken down?!!?!

I had the same issue as all the rest on here. Payment was showing as pending for quite a while so i tried again and kept receiving error messages. Thankfully i checked the reviews before any transactions on my card so cancelled both of my cards i tried to use.

Ordered a book last week and it didn’t arrive. I used the email confirmation I received to track the order. There was a button on the email to click “pay now”. I thought this looked very suspicious as I had already inputted my card details on the website so I ignored this. Sent an email to Smyths books to query my order but no reply.
I rang Barclays to request a new bank card as after reading reviews on Facebook I realised this company is not genuine. About 30 minutes after cancelling my card, Barclays contacted me to advise someone had tried to take €112 out of my bank!!! Luckily they didn’t pass the verified by visa, but please be very careful everyone!!!

Ordered a few books from here last week, the payment seemed to have processed however nothing was taken out of my account and items were not delivered. I tried again and it stated that my card details were incorrect when i inputted them just fine. I then checked reviews for the site and noticed others having the same problem as me, calling it a scam in which they are completely correct. Today, i received a call from my bank highlighting unusual activity on my account of over £2000, luckily i cancelled my card before this and this amount was not taken out. Let this be a lesson, make sure to check reviews for a site even if it looks legit.

Same experience as others. Thanks to comments on here have checked banked account, no fraudulent activity but have cancelled cards just in case. Their site looks so genuine but alarm bells start ringing when they don’t answer emails and there is no phone contact number!

I had the same experience as the customer below. Card details harvested and sold on for purchases exceeding £300 (Nike, sports direct). Avoid this website! Decided to rather go to a bookshop and get the book in person.

I attempted to order books online but the transaction wouldn't go through so went to Amazon.

Turns out that Smyths Books had simply harvested my card details and sold them on. Fortunately my bank picked up the subsequent fraudulent online payments and refunded the £356, (which was used to pay for items from Tesco, River Island, Wow Vouchers and Next).

AVOID AVOID AVOID!

Decided to check out reviews when I had received no book or reply to my enquiry email after 6 days.

Frightening that they haven't been caught yet. Surely the banks pass on details to the police when people report fraudulent activity.
