A caring and trustworthy company…
The company were very thorough in the initial assessment of the fault in the system. They took time to explain everything and were very patient, going through all the costings and options. Communication was excellent at all times. I checked the information I was given. It was spot on. At 81, it has been a relief to deal with an honest Company.

After years of dealing with inefficient solar companies SMAR came to my rescue. The problems were quickly identified and nothing was too much trouble. Scaffolding organised in double quick time and job completed professionally and efficiently. Staff polite and a pleasure to have in my home. Solar panels and battery now working properly for the first time in years. Thank you SMAR would thoroughly recommend this company.

Not trustworthy.
Told me panels had iso fault and inverter may have a fault. New inverter fitted by myself after and full system is working fine. This company was going to charge me £3500+ and I sorted it for much less. Felt like this company played on customer ignorance, not good.

Dear David, thank you for your feedback, we have answered the feedback below.
1, We did not quote £3500+ to fix your system, we will explain below.
2, We can both agree you needed a new inverter, as you went a purchased one yourself, we quoted £1200 inc vat to supply and fit a new inverter, so this diagnosis was correct, as you purchased one yourself.
2, As part of our service we test the panels and electrical cables, this is not guess work, this is 100% accurate testing with voltage machines.
Our job is to tell you and show you on the day the readings we get from the machines.
You 100% have a ground fault on your panels, this means you have an issue with the electrical cables on your roof that needs to be fixed.
This does not mean that your new inverter will not work, it means your electrical cables have an isolation fault that should be fixed, this is a fire hazard.
We can prove all these findings, if you have any solar engineer come and service your system from any company, they will find this fault if they do a AMP test on your strings, they will get 118v when they should be getting under 10v, your readings are 11 times the normal AMPS that should be travelling through your electrical cables.
We quoted £1495 inc vat to fix the roof faults.
We have been in the solar service sector for nearly 8 years, we advise on only issues that exist.

Misleading advertising and failure to respond
Website states that company undertakes maintenance on Solar Thermal Systems. I therefore e-mailed with a request for a service call. After 10 days, no reply received and when I called to chase, was told that company no longer deals with thermal systems.

Hi Brian, thank you for your feedback.
We do not service solar thermal systems anymore, this is a hot water system. We only service solar PV for electrics.
There are hundreds of companies that service solar thermal.
We are not sure if this is worthy of a 1 star review, you only sent an email enquiry.
If we contacted a car garage to change some tyres on our company van and they never changed tyres at the garage, we would not go and leave them a bad review because they do not offer the service we required.

Their engineer Dan arrived promptly and did an excellent job replacing my solar inverter in the attic; as a disabled person, I was particularly impressed by his kindness and understanding of my situation and the trouble he took to make his visit as trouble-free for me as possible.

Firstly rang back within 24 hours to discuss the service. Arranged for an appointment easily and engineer or technician turn up on time which was a novelty. Left to review system and diagnosis our problem straight away. Firm carries all types of replacement equipment out to each call and having possible cost on initial contact the job was fixed and paid for within 1.5 hours. Gent who came was polite, friendly and informed me of everything being done and what my options for the future. No hard sales tactics took what I said without any further pressure. Would recommend them to anyone who as a solar system.

On the whole Solar Maintenance & Repair was a good service.
On the whole Solar Maintenance & Repairs did a really speedy good job of installing a new inverter to replace our broken one, and we are now making money again. The engineer was friendly & seemed to know what he was talking about, and did a tidy job of installing the new inverter. The issues that I have is that the new inverter can be managed by an mobile app or online, but I was not told this before the engineer left (I found out when I registered the invertor on Fox ESS site). Also being shown this and how to use the app/web page would be a better service after inverter installed. However after reading some of other reviews I am now thinking I was sold a new inverter at a greatly inflated price that I also may not have needed.

Dear Derek, thank you for your feedback, we will add a few comments below.
1, When you called and booked an appointment you said, your system keeps tripping and your generation metre had stopped working. The system was 12 years old and you needed a service.
2, We serviced the system and found the inverter was the fault, we showed you the readings from the machine and you decided to change the inverter. the system has worked perfectly since as you had a faulty inverter.
The lifespan of an inverter is around 10 years, anything over that is a bonus, your inverter was 12 years old and was causing your electrics to trip. We are not sure why you would say you did not need the inverter when your inverter was faulty.
We have set prices for all inverter sizes, we do not compete with one man band companies or companies who have only been in the business less than two years (flyby night)
We give a ten year warranty on all inverter replacements, this means if you have an issue moving forward we come out and service for free, we are here 7 days a week for support, and react very quickly when there is an issue.
Regarding the app issue, we are happy to come and set it up for you, if you call the office when you are free we will arrange to come and set it up on your phone,
