I was looking for a Halal cake for my 50th and stumbled upon the alphabet naked cake, thinking it was going to be exceptional after reading the positive reviews on the Sugaholics site. However prior to ordering, I sent an email enquiring about the cake and giving some feedback about the ordering process. But I never got a response. Only after a WhatsApp message did I get a reply. Also the delivery window from 11-9pm seemed like an unrealistic timescale, therefore got the cake delivered a day earlier.
The cake was bigger than I expected, but for me, the taste needed to be exceptional. From this point onwards, my experience was underwhelming and ended in sheer disappointment. Firstly to see a poorly written message on a plastic strip being laid onto topped fruit that wasn't glazed, looked dry with stems left on the strawberries. To my astonishment, I spotted a bit of mold around one of the blueberries. The fruit topping wasn't that generous either. Then in-between the sponge layers, I didn't see any jam filling to compliment the cream, despite being a Victoria sponge. The pineapple flavouring hardly came through in the bottom layer.
Though the cake had a good texture, it lacked flavour. Being a fresh cake, I expected the cream to taste fresh and lightly whipped, but it felt processed and was sticking to my fingers. Overall, I had big expectations from a reputable company priding itself in baking cakes that impressed. But I was unimpressed with the service, and above all, the cake that was way inferior to other competitors I've tried. In fact quite pricey considering the quality you get. I agree to pay a premium price for a quality cake but this is not it! I even wonder if the other reviews are genuine or not. Will not be ordering from Sugaholics again!

I sent them a photo of exactly what we were hoping for and crossed my fingers that they’d get it right. They didn’t just deliver — they exceeded my expectations.
