I've been interested in using this for a while, unfortunately I recently found out that at least one of their community managers is really not suitable for the position, and that there is at least one activity going on that is illegal under the GDPR in the EU/UK. I might look at this again in the future, but without being able to trust an unbiased community or company the time I have sunk into this is now wasted...

For me this app has very poor UX. On windows 11 I've to go to my task bar and find it and click "up arrow" button. That isn't so bad, would be better if pinned at install (as an option). Then here's the crazy bit, if you click the live button, it authenticates and gives you your company login and password. So during the day you should have the option to re-authenticate (refresh) which requires a right-click and then find the re-authenticate button. This should be the default setting. If you are already authenticated it should be a refresh (with left click). If not authenticated it should be a username/password (with left click). So its just terrible UX. Not built for a human or convenience. You might ask, why refresh? well at 9am you refresh which is within 24-hours of your last authentication. So no login required. Then you refresh at 5pm to ensure its a refresh the next morning. On Monday you must always login (if not working over the weekend).

Seamless (and free) connection between devices that don't belong to the same network, no setups, no port forwarding, download, login and you are set.

I'm a network engineer but use TailScale for my home lab. It's a great product, that works very reliably for me. Also a huge shoutout to Alex for all his TailScale videos. They are a brilliant resource and this is someone who's been in enterprise networking since 1994. I use Tailscale extensively at home and keen to get used at work in the future. Thanks again Alex your videos are brilliant. 🥳

De eerste keer dat ik werkte met Tailscale was voor mij op de Synology NAS. Daar en toen heb ik ook de Tailscale account gemaakt voor thuisgebruik, omdat het gratis is. En natuurlijk om te ervaren hoe e.e.a werkt. Vanaf dat moment heb ik ook op andere pc's en smartphones (iPhone en Android) 'Tailscale' ingesteld. Geen extra instellingen nodig, alleen gebruikers verificatie. Hoe makkelijk wil je het hebben?

Ich war auf der Suche nach einer einfachen, aber dennoch sicheren Alternative zu WireGuard. Tailscale erfüllt genau diesen Anspruch. Es basiert technisch auf WireGuard und bietet damit dasselbe Sicherheitsniveau, ist jedoch deutlich leichter einzurichten.

Tailscale erstellt ein sicheres virtuelles Netzwerk, das alle hinzugefügten Geräte miteinander verbindet, unabhängig davon, in welchem physischen Netzwerk sie sich befinden. Über meinen Raspberry Pi, der in meinem Heimnetzwerk steht, kann ich dadurch von unterwegs aus verschlüsselt und sicher auf mein gesamtes Heimnetzwerk zugreifen.

Zusätzlich läuft auf dem Pi ein Adblocker, der über Tailscale auch unterwegs aktiv ist. Das macht das Surfen sicherer und spart Datenvolumen, da Werbung nicht geladen werden muss.

Für Privatpersonen ist Tailscale kostenlos nutzbar und erlaubt die Nutzung durch wenige weitere Benutzer. Wer mehr Benutzer hinzufügen möchte oder Tailscale im Unternehmen einsetzen will, benötigt einen kostenpflichtigen Account. Im kostenlosen Account können bis zu 100 Geräte eingebunden werden.

Insgesamt spart mir Tailscale viel Zeit und Nerven und erfüllt genau das, was ich gesucht habe.

Tailscale might be the greatest experience I have had with networking applications in my 20 years of IT. It is extremely well built and easy to configure. It opens up a wealth of opportunities for small and medium size companies that would struggle to create solutions otherwise. Everyone in IT needs to try this tool.

Super einfache Einrichtung, übersichtlich und stabil. Als wäre man überall Zuhause (im Heimnetz).

Insanely easy to use, and SO powerful out of the box. Just the free tier is amazing for connecting devices across the globe, or anywhere, either for security or for geo-location use cases.
The user experience is fantastic, their guides are great, just... hats off to Tailscale.

Free tier is perfect for me.
I can circumvent the CGNAT imposed by my ISP and connect to my local network by installing it on a remote device, and on a local device (configured as exit node).
Using the funnel feature I can also access my home assistant remote with a secure URL without a client, and it also allows me to connect Google Home to Home Assistant using this a part of the solution.

Absolute goat for my use case. 'Exceedingly' well documented, handles IDP like a charm, access list is stupidly well documented and easy to integrate, have integrated on Android TV/Mac/Windows/Android/Linux/Unraid, and have had 0 problems caused by their implementation. Integration with Mullvad AND NextDNS is flawless. The free tier is fantastic for getting a taste. Does require a reasonable knowledge of what you're doing, but given how it scales, you only need one competent administrator for a group. SSH integration means that I'm never having to reach around for credentials. Telemetry/funnel/serve were all an investment of time and research, but, they've all been running for months without a single problem to be seen. Can't recommend enough, but, be certain that this is actually what you need.

It works, but the documentation is hopelessly lacking in detail. they assume the reader knows too much and have not put critical thought into their documentation process.

as such, we gave it a pass for our organization. we need partners that document things well enough that we can parachute new employees and not have them quit out of frustration with a vender system.

DNS über Tailscale zu PiHole funktioniert nur sporadisch. Absolut unzuverlässig. In dieser Form nicht zu gebrauchen.

Ich und ein Kumpel haben seid 6 Monaten nach so einer Anwendung gesucht, und haben sie mit tailscale nun gefunden. Wir können nun finally beide ohne feste IP auf meinen Server zugreifen

Tailscale hat bisher für mich sehr zuverlässig funktioniert (sowohl der Tailscale Coordination Server als auch die DERP Server). Der Support ist - trotz das ich einen konstenlosen Plan habe - sehr nett und recht schnell.

I'm happily using Tailscale since an year to connect to my home devices.
I love how easy it is to set up and the fact that you don't even have to open any firewall ports to connect to your devices, very interesting detail especially if you are behind carrier grade NAT (like me).
