Lovely quality wilton in a hard to find colour (brandysnap). Underlay is excellent too. Not cheap but superb quality
Wish I had read these reviews before purchasing an Ulster carpet... I do hope we don't get the "tufting" experienced by some reviewers here. So far we are unhappy with the underlay. As mentioned by others it is not fit for purpose in that any floorboard gaps can be felt through the surface.
My main issue so far with a carpet fitted early November is the "off gassing". I purchased from Ulster carpets as they claim their carpets are low VOC and environmentally friendly. The smell for the first weeks was awful. Ulster claimed it would go within 2 weeks but a background smell lingers and Ulster are no longer responding to me.. Never experienced this kind of smell from a wool carpet before, so they obviously treat with strong chemicals. Environmentally friendly they're not.
Purchased York carpet after receiving various colour samples. With each sample there was a further sample of their Axfelt underlay which they strongly recommended. Despite our fitters advice to use a different underlay, we went with the manufacturers recommendation so as not to affect any carpet guarantees.
The end result is awful in that subfloor irregularities show through due to the ultra thin underlay. These are only floorboard joins in the most part.
Ulster have totally washed their hands of the matter although do now agree that Axfelt is not best to cover such subfloor issues and that this should have been evident at survey prior to purchase, something I say could not be evident due to decent underlay underneath old carpet being replaced.
I would suggest that nobody purchases this inferior underlay and avoids Ulster Carpets as a company as their after sales is appaling
I was a fan, not sure now. In 2013 I bought this same carpet for a through living room. It was beautiful for about 9 years, which was fine, it had not flattened and was in good order really just that we redecorated. Fast forward to December 2022, bought same carpet for my stairs and landing, within a year it is not looking so sharp, flattening and colour changing.....especially at the top of the stairs and on the treads....it will not look as good as the original one we bought for living room, after 3 years, let alone 9 years. I wonder if they have changed the wool quality? Its sad really. All wool mix carpets are not equal, i am told, that some wool is not "new". I did ring them after I noticed an issue in Dec 23 but they told me to contact the retailer but lets face it most retailers dont want to deal with you once the carpet is laid. Its not cheap either. Hate writing bad reviews
Purchased carpets for 3 bedrooms. landing and stairs all in the same colour. I also purchased a lounge carpet, same quality but a different colour. Found 3 large faults 2 in one colour carpet and another fault in the other colour carpet. Ulster sent a Representative out who said "it would vacuum out". The retailer stated it would never vacuum out, so Ulster carpets suggested sending someone to "re-tuft" all the faults. Due to the size of them, this will take at least 6-8 hours. Absolutely appalled, given the amount I paid for these carpets, that I am expected to have brand new, expensive carpets "re-tufted". I do not recommend this product at all. Given that these carpets were purchased to replace the previous newly purchased faulty carpets I had fitted 9 months ago, I am disgusted in the level of quality control, or lack of it and the after service from a supposedly reputable manufacturer.
Avoid Ulster Carpets at all costs, I didn't and it cost me £0,000s...
Within 12 months of purchasing two carpets they started to show 'tufting' to an unprecedented level, to the point patches started to show.
Ulster Carpets, who eventually sent out someone to inspect the carpets, were extremely slow to respond to our complaint.
The inspection of the carpets resulted in a verbal confirmation that there was a manufacturing problem, which would require further investigation.
However, after a considerable length of time of hearing nothing back regarding how Ulster Carpets were going to remediate the issue, a response was received by email denying there was a manufacturing issue, stating that there was not an issue and that the carpets were within manufacturing tolerance.
We are now left with two unsightly carpets that require regular repairs until such times as we purchase replacement carpets, at our own cost, which will not be manufactured by Ulster Carpets.
