Wow. No.
A by Adina hotel in Canberra. Wow. What a weird place. Sorry to start off with an intangible description but this place just doesn't know what it wants to be. Advertised as a modern hotel, it's more of an apartment (service). First of all we couldn't find the place, because the only signage is an enigmatic 'A', over an obscured entrance. Had to ring them and ask where to park. No car parking signage for the hotel either. Once in the car park there's almost orienteering skills required to find the lift to the hotel. All of the lifts bar one obscured lift from a 'secret passage', takes you to an office block not connected to the hotel. OK, we got in...The room was terrific but could have done with a standard lamp or two to make it more inviting as accommodation. It's very directional/trendy but also quite cold and spacey. Severe black everywhere with overhead lighting only. That said, the 1 b'room apartment was well designed and modern. The bathrooms are especially nicely designed, although there was no handle on one of the shower mixer taps? WT? How does a 'hotel' miss that?
We asked for 2 duvets for our king bed, and they instead placed 2 quilts wrapped in sheets OVER the existing 'quilt wrapped in sheets'. On returning back to the room after dinner we clarified the request and they said they had no duvet covers. WT? We had just stayed in 16 hotels across the US and Europe, and every hotel could provide a duvet cover upon request. Not 'A'. That said someone obviously went out and purchased two from Big W shop the next day. Weird thing was they didn't make the beds up, they just handed us 2 duvet covers. WT? This hotel is $400 a night.
I might add that currently there are SERIOUS building works surrounding the hotel, which is not the hotel's fault, and the windows are nearly soundproof...but just don't expect a decent vista for a while.
Next night we cooked in the well laid out kitchenette. We cleaned up and put most dishes in the dishwasher and went to bed. The next morning we were out early and came back after lunch to find that they'd replaced towels, but had not made up the room. OK. So we asked if that could be done. We went out for an hour to give them time to do it. Again, on return, the bed had not been touched and the kitchen was - tidied - but certainly not clean. It was like someone at reception had come up and gave it a quick once-over. WT?
So now I'm wondering, what else is wrong, and indeed for such a modern place, the bathroom had first signs of mould on the wall tiles under shower head. The towels are small and worn, and no one, even once wiped down any of the surfaces for the 3 nights we stayed. WT?
And the facilities... No food room service, but they say they can bring drinks and convenience snacks like crisps/peanuts. Why only that?
On the website there are images that infer you can walk to breakfast etc, but no... you have to go OUTSIDE onto the street, walk 20m, and then enter into the same building, but through KPMG's entrance to access an external cafe. WT? Why isn't there a simple way to access this? OK, back to the room... There is nothing, I mean nothing else, in this hotel. You have to go to the next alley to get ANYTHING. (I acknowledge they have a deal with a few of the external places that allow you to sign the bill to your hotel room which is nice).
Look overall, I just wouldn't stay here again. If it was their first week open I'd put it down to teething problems, but the lack of apparent service and facilities is just not good enough for a place that is obviously pitched at the upper priced market. It just does not have an experienced hand guiding it. And it shows.
Put simply, this place doesn't know what it wants to be and so lacks simple common sense inclusions and conveniences. I suggest management stays as a guest for a week themselves and discover just what I mean...
