Alesis Strike Amp - Brilliant Marketing - Discover the truth about quality.
Oh dear, if only I had read the reviews >>> It was time to buy myself an Amp for an electronic drum kit, and the marketing and glitz around Alesis is awesome, I had to buy one and goodbye to over £200. I am responsible for one part of this and I will own up along the story, but Alesis know the truth, just choose not to know.
I purchased the Strike 8 Amp mid April 2024 (20 month ago). It was purchased from Music Matters of Preston, who at the time were one of the large music kit online sellers.
**My mistake here, I have the proof of purchase on my credit card statement, but cant find an invoice, electronic or otherwise.
I chose music matters on price and delivery time, but also that they had an extended 2 year warranty, as did most suppliers including gear4music etc, Alesis will know this to be the case. However, music matters has since gone bust, and Alesis consider themselves off the hook, nice work if you can get it!
The amp has only ever been used in the home and limited time at that, as drummers will know, its headphones most of the time, Amp when the neighbours have all evacuated. Really it was purchased with the future in mind, being good enough to jam with others that sort of thing. Just to be clear, I am confident this unit has been used for no more than 10 hours in total.
Christmas just gone and a fellow drummer was visiting so we wanted to hear each other progress, when I plugged the amp in, nothing except a couple of flashing light and short buzz.
A quick search on the internet and my heart sank, a well reported problem, a hardware failure.
I then contacted Alesis product support, yes I know, don't laugh, I thought it was worth a try. They did ask about the problem and ask me to send a video which I did, but it really was a case of Care/Don't Care, always bringing the conversation back to "well, if you can find the receipt".
I have checked the first three websites selling strike amp 8 just now, before leaving this review, ALL offer the 3 year warranty, Alesis know full well I will have been given this, Music matters was a big player in the UK at the time, but this is when you find out the truth about about company, not the glossy ads and slick marketing.
Alesis in an email suggested I contact the company (that has been bankrupt and closed for a while) you never know said Alesis....Yes, I think we do know!
Shortly before buying this amp, I spent £2k on an electronic kit, and boy, I was soooo close to clicking for an Alesis Strata prime, it was in the basket on the screen, but as it was £2000 I decided to review a little more and there were some worrying noises around the module, after this amp disaster, do I feel like I had a lucky escape, opting for a Roland kit with the reliable TD17 module, pheeeeww.
So, in summary, thanks Alesis, you know of this fault as you told me in your email, you know I will have been given 3 years warranty but choosing to swerve any responsibility after 20months on an amp you would be welcome to inspect to in relation to my claim of little use.
I hope this review helps prospective buyers think twice.
Thankfully I have a channel with 18k subscribers from the drumming community, Just chatting about perils and pitfalls of learning the drums at any age. At least I will be able to share my experience with that community as soon as I can put something together.
Don’t buy - incomplete set! Waste of time!
Christmas morning and I have an upset 7 year old! What they don’t tell you when you purchase the amp to go with the drum kit is that you have to buy the cables separately to connect them!!! So, my child has a Alesis drum kit, Alesis amp and no cable to connect the two! Both devises have Bluetooth; but now, reading up (which I have been for about an hour and a half on Xmas morning!) the two don’t connect together! You can only play music from your smartphone through both!!! Honestly, never known anything like it! Alesis - Put the cables in the box so the product can’t be used or make it so they can be connected together via Bluetooth. £700 complete set for Christmas and it can’t be played! To say I’m upset is an understatement, never mind my 7 year old on Xmas day! Useless website also, can’t contact anyone or email for help.
Recommended drum kit for beginners
Recommended drum kit for beginners, but assembly can be difficult unless you remember that the instrument clamps will rotate around the holding bars. Extra peripherals needed with also such as amplifier to play along with tunes and headphones also as the headphones are non Bluetooth.
No one is replying to me where is my Module?
My module for the strata core was faulty, so Alexis told me to send it back and they’d replace it. I asked them if they could send me one first and they said no, so I obliged and sent mine. Well, it’s been months. No module, and they won’t reply. I’ve sent them multiple emails. Nothing. Spent $3000 and I can’t even play the drums because they won’t give me back my module.
Good setup, bad kick drum
I just got the Alesis nitro max, and I think it works pretty well except for the kick drum. Sometimes it doesn't register and doesn't make any sound. Other than that though, I like it a lot and find it easy to play other songs on it.
BEWARE
I awoke this morning to fraudulent charges with this company. They were reported to my bank and addressed.
Terrible company
Terrible company. I bought a keytar. There were no instructions on how to use it. The software that came with it wouldn't download. There's no information about what the software does or how to get it connected to the keytar even if you could download it. The support team just told me what I already knew and closed the ticket. I sent the keytar back to the retailer and got a refund.
I wasn’t gonna write a review
I wasn’t gonna write a review because I have an SE, I think it’s great and everything works but I have a problem. It does this amazing multivoice, single pad thing on a few of the presets and I’m trying to program custom samples to do the same thing but the module doesn’t seem to have the option, So I spent 2-24 hour sessions and 1-48 hour session Trying to program multi voices on one pad through superior drummer 3 and others. After contacting a few companies and getting no response, I decided to contact Alesis. 1st off there’s a third-party chat bot pop-up that asked for $5 To talk to tech-support, I tried asking it again and this time it told me $1 so I went to go pay it and it said there was a $51 monthly subscription fee to talk to tech-support from a third-party. I finally found the real chat bot (Which is in beta)And it started talking about articulations, stacking and adding three extra voices on top of your kit, i’m trying to go through the user manual and I’m not finding anything like that, but I’m so burnt out from trying. I also, got email saying Alesis read my message and never wrote anything back. My point being if multivoice single pad option is in the module it’s impossible to find and if it isn’t in the module then they put a feature in that can’t be customized. I wanted to like this brand really bad and still kinda do but their customer service is bad and the website needs fixed
Don't buy Alesis!!!!!
I bought an Alesis Nitro Max Kit (about €600....) and I noticed that the "hi hat" pedal (the hi-hat pedal, so to speak) has too much dynamics. So, to make the cymbals heard you have to apply too much force, with the result that after a quarter of an hour you no longer have the strength in your left leg to continue playing.
I wrote to the company (Alesis) via Amazon support (where I bought the drums), registered the product and opened a ticket. The result? No response. Zero. Nothing.
Any advice? Don't buy Alesis electronic drums. Get an acoustic drum set.
This is the best advice I can give you.
See you next time.
Alesis Strike 12 Amp 15…
Bought an Alesis Strike 12 Amp 15 months ago from one of their distributors, Thomann. The amp has suffered catastrophic failure 3 months past warranty despite never having gone above 60% capacity. These products are not built to last. I wanted to leave a review but Thomann said the product is discontinued and I can't so hopefully this will help future buyers make decisions.
DO NOT BUY FROM THIS BRAND
DO NOT BUY FROM THIS BRAND
They literally changed the title and parts of my review on their site to make it sound not as bad and then didn’t help me with any of the issues I actually stated.
I bought an Alesis samplepad ‘pro’ as they’ve called it, endless problems from the start,
- crosstalk from the pads even with the sensitivity lowered
- pads falling off of the module
- loud buzzing sounds whenever plugged into a PA
- headphone Jack cracking
The whole thing is just really poorly built and I would highly advise anyone not buy anything from them considering their awful ‘support’ and faulty products, invest in something from Roland, Alesis is not a cheap alternative just a stressful nightmare and a huge waste of money!
I purchased Alesis DM10 module
I purchased Alesis DM10 module, and used only once and tried to update the module online. That's it.
After that the module never displayed any information on the screen, It just powers on, without any display on the screen..
Tried all the way to restore it back for last 5 years, nothing could be done, and there is no support from Alesis in India..
Suggest do not buy alesis products in India, who has no technical support... I just wasted money on Alesis products like SR8, DM5 & DM10..they are not worth.
Never will I buy this product again...
Terrible support
So, I bought an Alesis Nitro Max Kit drum kit on 15 March 2024. On 19 April 2024 I report a defect to Alesis (just over a month old). They give me the option of returning it for repair... or nothing. I had to pay to return the unit and get the appropriate insurance. A couple of weeks go by, and I contact Alesis to see if they received the item as no contact. Yes we got it. Having heard nothing I emailed them to see what's going on 20/05/2024. They now say they are waiting for spare parts, no idea when they will arrive, but "based on their experience" takes 4 weeks...
I love my Nitro
I love my Nitro, don’t update it and break it! Perfect as is for me coupled with Clone Hero…. Expandable beyond the Tom/snare/cymbal setup easily…
Very poor customer service
Very poor customer service, leave you with no help or any where to go with broken items
Poor services
Super compromised services in India specially drum dealer and company executive both are involved in making customer fool and UNRESPONSIVE, Both washing hands by putting the ball in each other's court and
I had purchased a keyboard of theirs…
I had purchased a keyboard of theirs that slowly degraded over time. First two keys decided that they weren't gonna have semi-weighted keys, then the solders for the sustain and midi went out too. Overall, don't aim to buy anything from Alesis. At least spend $300 on a different brand if you want a good instrument.
Faulty drum brain
I have had one of their strike drum brains for 2 years, (Warranty only one!). Sounds great when it works, but becoming unreliable for gigs as it occasionally freezes, and the kick drum occasionally drops out!
This is an expensive piece of kit that has been well looked after and not used excessively.
Obviously their build/component/software quality is poor, and the warranty period says that they know this.
I will not be replacing this with another Alesis after the 'support' received.
This is the second Alesis drum brain I've had go faulty, definitely the last.
HORRIBLE, unresponsive support system
This company is among the worst for support. I emailed then EIGHT DAYS ago about a minor issue and all I have received to date is the first auto reply saying they got my request. Horrible service. But once a company gets so big they don't care about losing users, particularly when they know most musicians and studios HAVE to buy their stuff.
