BUYER BEWARE! I have used Carbonite for numerous years and on several computers. My original subscription included a "Mirror Image" of my hard-drive, which I thought it was necessary considering the type of work that I do. About 6 months ago, I called them to transfer my service to a new laptop. I found out that the "Mirror Image" was no longer offered with my subscription since, I believe, 2018 when they were bought by another company. I looked for another provider, and transferred my service to the new provider that included the "Mirror Image" for a reasonable fee. After making sure that all my files were backed up, I called Carbonite to cancel the service and get a refund for the balance of the months that I had pre-paid. Now they tell me that they do not give REFUNDS. If that's not a way to steal by deceiving the consumer, I am not sure what is. You have 30 days to cancel. This they don't tell you when you pay in advance. Now I have a subscription that I will not be using until 2025. PLEASE BEWARE OF THIS MALICIOUS BUSINESS PRACTICES. There are other providers that charges reasonable fees.

Quit working on my OS. No refunds.
I paid in advance for several years. A month later Carbonite quit working on my operating system. Customer service just said: Too bad, no refunds. Sucks to be you. So I switched to IDrive. It works! IDrive also backs up external drives for no additional charge. Carbonite, you owe me for two years of non-service. I hate to get ripped off.

Totally Unresponsive!
Have been trying to sign up. Unable to process payment. Credit Card company says no request for payment received from Carbonite. Tried to resolve with Carbonite, but after a week of trying, apart from automated acknowledgement they do not respond to messages or email. Begs the question – If this is how they treat potential customers, how will they treat you once they´ve got your money. I´ve given up and gone back to Backblaze! But as you´ll see below, in only a little over 5 months, they´ve actually replied. Wow, with customer service as responsive as that, maybe I´ll sign up with them after all.

Carbonite lost data and won't issue refund
I used Carbonite for many years without needing it. But when I had an issue and lost 200 MB of data, Carbonite tech was unhelpful. I ordered a full backup on a hard drive, installed it on a new computer, and was shocked to see how many documents either didn't back up or were lost by Carbonite. I have copies of the documents on the old computer after the crash. They should have been at Carbonite but weren't on the backup drive Carbonite sent. One folder had only 1 of 23 documents. With so many documents lost, I terminated service with a full 13 months remaining on my renewal, but Carbonite only issues refunds within 30 days of initial purchase, which is as worthless as their backup service.
Six months after I filed this review, Carbonite posted a reply apologizing and asking me to call customer service. When I did, I got a message that there was a 61 minute wait for a representative and I could have them call back. I opted to have them call back. The call came from OPENTEXT, not Carbonite. The recording said I was next in line. Shortly later I heard the call transfer to TOTAL SILENCE. I waited 6 minutes before hanging up. THERE IS NO IMPROVEMENT AT CARBONITE. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!

I've used Carbonite for years and had relative success with accessing my data when I was away from my computer. However, two weeks ago I was out of town and needed to access some files. After an hour of trying, I got nowhere. I messaged the company several times. After six days, SIX DAYS?!, I got an email saying there was "a small issue within the backup database that our engineers are looking into." Not small to me! I called several times, but there was always a 60 minute wait to speak to a representative. Once I requested a callback, but when the callback came, I pressed 1 to tell them I was there, but the system could process that, and eventually the phone call ended. So I waited the 60 minutes and spoke to a snippy representative who said basically, too bad, and no, they would not refund my money when I said I felt that would be fair. Also no, I could not speak to a supervisor. So, BEWARE--don't even think about using Carbonite! I don't know what happened to them, but don't trust them for your data backup, and certainly don't give them any money!! They never did tell me what the "small issue" was, or why I couldn't access my data, nor did they get back to me. I wish I could give them less than 1 star.

Still have been having issues with my backup. On its own it goes into a suspense mode and then takes days to re backup my stuff. Not sure why it does it and not sure why it takes so long to back up what should be already backed up.

The Carbonite site doesn't allow me to make another payment with my credit card, and I dont have another credit card. Please make the charge with my credit card.

I have 663GB of data. I have been restoring 5+ days and I am at 25%, my speed test says I have download speed of 866, so clearly Carbonite throttles data. When you purchase they do not say you can spend 3 weeks restoring.

Best support ever.
I just installed Carbonite 2.8.4 on my new Mac Studio, and had an installation problem as a result of some detritus migrated over from an older Mac. I called Carbonite support, was connected to "James", and had the best support experience I've ever had with an App provider in my 16 years as a Mac user. In 15 minutes, James not only fixed my Carbonite installation and got the backup going, but reviewed my situation and provided suggestions for all the backup preferences. He knew his way around a Mac better than anybody I've ever worked with.

This company is a scam
It seems all good until you actually need to restore. I was their customer for a 5 years and today it finally happened: my hard drive crashed beyond recovery. But when I started the restore, the speed is so slow that it will now take weeks to restore my 724 GB of data. I googled it and apparently there are a lot of complaints about the speed, it can be months (!) to download your backup if it is big enough. Even if you have 200 Mbps internet connection, the speed between you and Carbonite servers can be as low as 1 Mbps (in my case, 1.3 Mbps). But it feels like they do it on purpose. Because when you call and complain, they offer you to ship your files on a hard drive for $99.99, not including shipping (remember to return it within 3 weeks, or they charge you a big fine). I guess that's how they really make money. But if you don't reside in USA, you are out of luck even if you will to pay because they only offer this to customers located in USA. Update: after 12 days I am only up to 15% with computer running almost 24/7. I guess it will take me entire summer to restore my files, not to mention that backup of new changes is put on pause during this period. How "great" is that?
Also, I learned the hard way that many files are by default excluded from backups even if the entire folder is set to be backed up. That includes executables and various system files. I am a programmer, and I lost a lot of work just because Carbonite decided it wouldn't back it up. Also, it doesn't backup files over certain size for lower-tier plans, but of course this is well hidden in the fine print (because of that I lost a childhood video recorded from an old VHS tape). Overall, I advise to stay away from this company and look for alternatives. I learned the hard way that this company gives a false sense of security, and you will eventually suffer a lot if you fully rely on them.

Well I could not be more disappointed…
Well I could not be more disappointed in the latest change at Carbonite. I am no longer able to view pdf, word, and excel files from my phone. The only files available to view anymore are jpgs. I have spoken with Carbonite and they confirm that the option to view those types of files is no longer available. Yes I can email or text a file to someone (in the rare event that it even allows me to do that), but can't just view it like in the past. I'm cancelling my service that I've had for many years and switching to Backblaze. I have no use for a service that I can't use for work files.

Terrible platform with terrible…
Terrible platform with terrible customer service. Had a crash and carbonite would not reinstall my files and the error message stated I need to use customer service. Apparently not only are they only available M-F hours to assist, when you do call, you're told no one can help because they are too busy and they hang up on you. I'm deeply regretting subscription and have already purchased a competitors product - at least the new company gave me a 90% discount on their first year once I showed them I was leaving carbonite.

Bring back the mobile app
Bring back the mobile app. I am frequently out of town and need to access my files. Your Mobile app was quick and easy to use. Your suggested work around is cumbersome and involves multiple steps. It is not helpful when you need to quickly access your files.

Lost Confidence...
Let me preface this by saying I have been a software developer for over 22 years and I know a thing or two about good software.
When I first started using carbonite years ago, it was solid and had a lot of great options for the price. Now, all these years later, the product is full of bugs and has not kept up with the times. The price has also crept up and the feature list continues to move to a higher price tier. What kind of bugs? Failure to backup files. It randomly decides not to backup and you have to fiddle with it to get it moving again. When restoring, I actually tried to stop the process by hitting the stop button and it just sits there and doesn't know what to do. The only option was to just continue to restore what I didn't want restored. It will literally take a month to restore all my data on one drive at this rate. And I am not confident that everything is in this backup that I need.
I have been through two drive failures and had to restore. Both times, restoring data was pitifully slow and I noticed it is not making use of my fast internet connection for a major restore.
By the way, courier service is only available at their highest price tier.
I think this time, I will move to another player in the market and put Carbonite behind me until they can make a more competitive choice for me.
Bottom line is I have lost confidence in this product to deliver when I need it to.

Well, it happened. Computer crashed...I am more than a little disappointed that EVERYTHING on my computer was NOT backed up. After all, that is the reason I pay for this service.
Purchasing Carbonite gave me a sense of security, which was false. Do yourself a favor and backup on your own. Do not be like me.

Moving from an old laptop to a new one without needing to have an IT person do it for me!. Hardest part is figuring out which downloaded software I needed. Other events made this a little more difficult but still a positive experience.
