First Alert is a joke. First off, my smoke detector went off in the kitchen. I was in the garage when this happened. I went into the kitchen there was no smoke no fire. I called 911 just to have another set of eyes to investigate. Fire department found nothing thank goodness. First Alert office closed when I called them.

Shame!

Complaint Title: Faulty Smoke Alarms Causing 40+ False Alarms, Thanksgiving Emergency, and Zero Accountability

Over the last 18 months, I have experienced over 40 false alarms caused by faulty smoke detectors from this company. I have a Ring Alarm system that monitors every detector, so I have hard proof of every single incident. What should have been a reliable safety system has turned into a nonstop nightmare.

I originally installed seven brand-new smoke detectors, all purchased at once. Every single one failed. The company replaced them — and those replacements failed too and I replaced again. In total, I’ve had to replace seven units, twice, within a year and a half. That’s not a coincidence; that’s a defective product line.

The worst event happened today, Thanksgiving at 4 AM. Four different alarms began going off while I was hours away from home. Ring was preparing to dispatch the fire department, and I had no choice but to drive a 4+ hour round-trip in the middle of the night to prevent the fire department from breaking my door down. That ruined the holiday, cost me money, and put me in danger on the road — all for another false alarms caused by their junk equipment.

This entire situation is unacceptable, irresponsible, and frankly embarrassing for a company that sells “safety” products.

Here’s what I’m demanding:
• Full financial reimbursement for all defective units: $75each
• Reimbursement for tolls and gas from the emergency Thanksgiving trip: $100
• Compensation for the ongoing stress, sleep disruption, repeated false alarms, and the 4 AM Thanksgiving incident: $1,000

If they do not resolve this, I will be filing in small claims court. I’ve given them more than enough chances. A company selling safety equipment that triggers emergency responses more than 40 times in 18 months is a liability, not a service.

Shame on this company for putting me through this and refusing to fix the root cause.

First Alert Fire and CO alarms are duds

I bought 4 First Alert Fire and CO detectors for my home and a cabin. One seems to be working? At least I hope!
I was told they would last 10 years, this is now 4 years and 3 of the four are duds! Can't get even them to activate alarm with test button. It seems power is dead!
Not impressed with sealed battery fire alarms.....
And I won't buy First Alert again!!!

Garbage product, garbage company

Brand new First Alert smoke detectors, with brand new batteries constantly go off for no reason.
Returned and replaced all of them, but they still go off in the middle of the night for no reason.
This is a dangerous company. They force even highly safety conscious people to disable or cover smoke detectors because they are tired of constantly being woken up in the middle of the night by their defective products, which don't even detect the most common type of house fires. You can look up all the lawsuits yourself.

Could you please confirm whether the issue also occurs when the device is in normal mode and located outside your home?

The Unsafe Safe

The definition of a safe is “a strongbox where valuables can be securely stored and protected”. But what do you call a safe that is designed, engineeredand produced to destroy your valuables. You call it First Alert Safe. My First Alert Safe did not keep my valuables secure. I purchased the First Alert safe because it advertised as being fire and waterproof. But unbenouncedto me, this safe was designed to produce its own moisture, moisture that destroys all contents within, without the safe aver being submerged. The moisture contents that this safe produces, grew mold on my passport and madeeverything in it, such as cash and irreplaceable documents wet.When I contacted First Alert and its parent company WoodSales.Inc, they replied by stating: “Due to the materials used in the manufacture, all fire resistant safe have to be opened periodicallyto prevent moisture. We also recommend keeping valuables in such as jewelry or passports in an air tight container, to prevent moisture damage. This can be found on page 10 of the owner’s manual.”So how safe are your valuables? Well as long as you protect them from the Safe Alert safes, then they should be undamaged. Or, you should set an alarm to go off every couple of weeks, sothat you can aerate your safe. Or maybe just keep the door open.First Alert also told me that I would have to replace their safe every 5 years, since that is when it is out of warranty and would no longer keep my valuables safe. How often do you replaceyour safe? Do you write the last time the safe was replaced on it, as you would say a water filter? Because if your house burns down 61 months after installing a First Alert safe, and all contents that you wanted to protectare destroyed in this safe, then you are simply out of luck. That said, why would you purchase a product that will not only not keep your valuables secure, but because of its faulty design and defective construction will damageyour valuables while you sleep.

50% failure rate on products

We bought a total of 10 AA battery-powered and combo CO2 fire alarms in 2019. To date, half of them have had to be replaced because they stopped working. Their warranty also just cancels replacement orders after talking with them with no notice. I have been waiting months for a replacement. These are cheap off-shore products manufactured with zero quality control and no care for the fact that they could ideally save someone's life if they worked.

I have 8 devices in my house.

I have 8 devices in my house.. with in one year we had to call 3 times fire fighters to my house due to faulty product.
today I called to see if they can replace all 8.
They refused to.. Please do not buy this product it will cause you a heart attack with strobe light and sound and it will be a false alarm.. Horrible customer service. Model Number #7020BSLA

Had a problem with some outdated smoke alarms,I called customer service,and at a moments notice they piked up and I had a rep talk to me ,unbelievable someone that fast,best thing about this is this person spoke English no foreigner that I couldn't understand,what a breeze,this lady named Maria took control of my issue and got my problem solved,kind courteous and so informed about the products at First Alert,what a company,very impressed with this service,for any of my future issues with smoke alarms I will be buying them from this company,plus the word gets around,any of my friends or family members in need of First Alert products I will highly recommend this company,thanks so much First Alert rep Maria,you made my day,this company has about the best customer service people around,very impressed,thank you,nick............
