Excellent product and service.
Have recently had three opening windows, French windows, single glass pane and an aluminium door from GFD Homes. Installation of final two items was just yesterday and I am delighted with the quality and look of all the products. Two front windows also met with approval from local Building Control who asked for the name of manufacturer. Local residents have taken a keen interest in my renovation project and the windows have received many favourable comments.
Well impressed by the handling skills of the delivery driver for final French window and glass panel - a very helpful chap.
Staff have been very helpful with numerous queries fielded to them in order to get the products I needed. I am very happy to recommend GFD Homes as is my builder.

Kept my card details and overcharged me

I ordered a composite front door along with two flagged windows for my house. The company offered a competitive quote for the work to be completed.

Someone attended from the sub contractor to conduct the survey. The man was quite miserable and not child friendly. I asked him if the wooden architrave around the door and window could be kept rather than replacing it with UPVC and he was adamant is all had to be replaced and nothing could be done with the wooden shelf next to the door to allow the door to open wider. He therefore added costs to the work for additional material to replace the wood.

I received the quote and agreed to the additional work and paid 50% installment for the door to be manufactured.

When the fitters came they did a really good job with the door and window. They managed to keep the wooden shelf and set it back by 5mm allowing the door to open much wider and also ensuring the door wouldn't bang into it causing damage. They also managed to keep the wooden architrave around the door. They cleaned up after themselves and even painted the wall where the paint had been damaged.

GFD homes kept my card details on file and the following week they automatically charged me for the remaining 50% despite them claiming they would not take the remaining amount until I was happy with the work. They never called me to check if there were any issues and I didn't authorise the payment.

I then contacted them back to enquire why I was charged for the additional work which hadn't been completed and to delete my card details from file. They responded saying they would check with the subcontractor to see if a refund was due and they would delete my card details once a refund had been issued if any. I have since sent 3 or 4 chaser emails and I have had absolutely no response back regarding my refund. I've now had to start a chargeback request with my card company.

Furthermore, they did not issue me with a Fensa certificate. I queried this and they said as the door was not more than 50% glazed it didnt require a certificate. However i reminded them they also fitted 2 windows not just the door. This email was ignored. I then queried this with Fensa who confirmed one was required for the windows. I send this to GFD homes who have eventually agreed to provide an Assure certificate which I am waiting on. They should have known this considering the business they are in.

The company have responded to the Fensa certificate emails but completely ignored my emails for a refund so not sure what their excuse is.

Overall the price was reasonable and workmanship was good. Let down by bad customer service and overcharging.

We’re really pleased to hear that you were happy with the quality of the installation and the work carried out by our fitting team. However, we’re sorry to hear that other aspects of your experience have caused frustration.

With regards to payment, the stage payments for your order were agreed at the point of confirmation and outlined in your order and survey documentation. These terms also advise that payments are automatically taken using the card on file unless we are instructed otherwise. As we were not made aware of any issues following installation, the final balance was processed in line with these agreed terms. That said, we apologise if this did not meet your expectations.

In relation to your card details, these are securely retained in line with the agreed payment terms to allow staged payments to be processed. We received your request to remove these details after installation had been completed; however, as there is currently an ongoing query regarding a potential refund, they have been temporarily retained to allow this to be resolved efficiently. Once this matter is concluded, we will ensure your card details are removed from our system.

Regarding the additional work for the boards, this was included based on the surveyor’s assessment at the time, as this type of work falls outside of the standard installation and carries an additional cost. Due to the nature of installations, it is not always possible to determine what can be reused until the original door is removed. We are currently confirming with the installation team what was completed on site, and if it is established that any materials you were charged for were not required, we will of course arrange a refund accordingly.

We’re particularly sorry to hear your concerns regarding being charged for work you believe was not completed, and we are treating this as a priority while we complete our internal checks.

We also apologise for the delay in communication, and if it appeared that certain queries were not responded to this was never our intention and is being reviewed internally. Your refund query remains ongoing, and we appreciate your patience while this is investigated.

Regarding certification, Martindales are registered with Assure rather than FENSA. This is an equivalent certification scheme, and all qualifying installations are submitted upon completion. Certification can take approximately 4–5 weeks to be issued, and we will ensure this is provided to you as soon as it becomes available.

Finally, we’re sorry to hear your feedback regarding the initial survey visit, and we will ensure this is passed on internally.

We would like to resolve this matter for you as quickly as possible. I have asked a member of the team to get in touch to provide you with a current update.

Looking for a solidor composite door

Looking for a solidor composite door, this is the cheapest place I found. Solidor themselves online 2k local widow companies 2.3k, 2.4k. The door we purchased 1.4k designed as you want it. The only thing what was disappointing was we ordered a pull knob hoping for factory fitting, think it was £150 but they don’t factory fit them as of choice of position, even tho it shows a picture of the door with the knob when you order it. So in theory you’ve agreed position. Also you can buy same knob online for £20. We paid the extra thinking it was fitted, we didn’t know until the door was delivered not fitted but tapped on the side of the frame. Everything else was fairly straight forward.

Delivery was a date given , 8am till 6pm all day no time as in AM or PM no pre phone call from driver even tho they had my number. Door delivery turned up at 7:30am got the Mrs out of bed. As she opened the door he was walking away saying you’re lucky I was just about to take it back. No safe place leaving, no in-house delivery it was left against garden gates until I got home. If you did miss delivery it’s then chargeable for re delivery. Luckily no problems at all but thought worth mentioning. Seems a great company saved 1k so all happy here and fitted Saturday 28th Feb.

These are supplied loose rather than factory-fitted because many installers prefer to position them on-site, depending on the final fit and customer preference, but we understand how this could be confusing when shown on the door in the configurator. We're also sorry to hear the delivery experience wasn't ideal. Deliveries are scheduled within a day window due to route planning, but we appreciate that an early arrival without a call ahead can be inconvenient. Wouldn’t order from this company again…

Wouldn’t order from this company again which is a shame as I planned on having all my windows refitted by them, but couldn’t think of anything worse.

They fitted my door incorrectly in a rush (late to fitting as martindales explained they were double booked onto two jobs miles apart at the same time), door arrived chipped on first fitting, then after they left I realised I could not gain access to my property. Images added below to see how poorly and rushed this was fitted.

The fitters only came back (1 hour later) because I had the fitters number and they wasn’t pleased they had to even though they fitted it wrong, GFD doors were closed by this time as it was late evening on a Friday, with no emergency number to contact.

The only way it could be rectified was by climbing over my back garden wall and by luck my back door was open to gain access from the inside of my home. If my backdoor wasn’t open, I’d of been locked out of my home until Monday in the cold, heavily pregnant.

Then as a gesture of “goodwill” they sent me out a thumbturn cylinder as I didn’t like that the door had to be opened inside by a key, again they tried to blame me for this saying I agreed to it, but this is my first time ordering a door and I wasn’t sent over confirmation of images and description, and the key required to open from inside doesn’t meet health and safety requirements in the event of a fire especially with young children to think about, therefore I mentioned I’d of preferred a thumbturn lock and was unaware I had ordered the key option, this has arrived and is gold/brass whilst the entire door has silver detailing ie letter box, handle, knocker etc. It looks even worse than it did before.

The company are now trying to blame me for not noticing this prior to fitting, even though I explained I had someone else collect this due to being unwell in my final stages of pregnancy and not living at the address yet. Surely as a company they would’ve known the colour and details of the door I’ve ordered and ensure it matches that and doesn’t look like it should be on a different door.

They are now refusing to rectify, even though I have explained I’m in my third trimester and pregnant and between me and my partner taken 2 days off work unpaid for their fittings, both times the fitters didn’t even have the decency to arrive within the slot booked.

Secondly this company are not following the Consumers Rights Act 2015:

* Goods Must Be: Of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, and as described
* Repair or Replacement: After 30 days, consumers are entitled to a repair or replacement. If this fails, a price reduction or final right to reject (refund) applies.
* Services: Services must be provided with reasonable care and skill, within a reasonable time, and for a reasonable price.

I do not appreciate this company acting as if they are doing me a favour by providing a thumbturn lock….If the door was fitted the first time correctly, and sent out without damage and fault, I would’ve not had to had this door rectified with paint and a different lock.

They are now keen to request the final half of the payment without fixing these issues and telling me if I fix myself and get a matching colour thumbturn lock that I will not have the 10 year guarantee and it will be void. Feels a bit fraudulent to me.

I would honestly consider going elsewhere, there are lots of other companies out there after researching that supply and fit the same doors for much less with most importantly better customer service.

Please accept my sincere apologies that you have been left feeling dissatisfied with your purchase with us and the service you have received.

I would like to assure you we take all feedback on board and the last thing we would want for you is to be left feel frustated with the experience you have had.

I emailed you yesterday separately an extensive response to all of your concerns flagged after I completeted comprehensive review of your order, but wanted to take the time to also respond to your review.

We fully appreciate that the temporary access issue on the day of installation would have been stressful and frustrating. As soon as this was brought to our attention, the installation team returned the same evening to resolve the matter and ensure the property was secure and accessible. While the issue was rectified promptly, we do understand that this would not have removed the inconvenience caused in the moment.

Regarding the arrival time, the team arrived later than initially anticipated due to their earlier installation overrunning. For this reason, we provide arrival windows rather than fixed appointment times. Although the installation was completed efficiently, it was not rushed. Our installers would never proceed with a fitting if they felt it could not be completed properly and safely.

The lock-out itself was caused by a missing fixing screw within the cylinder, which meant it was not secured correctly. This was resolved on the same day. A separate sizing matter was also identified with the cylinder; although this did not cause the access issue, a correctly sized replacement was arranged promptly to ensure everything was fully compliant.

When a minor scuff was later reported, this was addressed through our aftercare process and rectified. We always aim to resolve any concerns raised and ensure the final installation meets the expected standard.

In relation to the cylinder specification, the original order was for a key-operated cylinder. Following your request, this was changed to a thumbturn. The finish supplied is the standard and only available option for this product and is consistent with the original cylinder and our website imagery. Both key-operated and thumbturn cylinders are industry compliant and secure, with the difference being a matter of preference.

We remain confident in the quality of the door and the steps taken to address the concerns raised. We are sorry that your overall experience did not reflect the level of service we strive to provide, and we genuinely regret that you feel unable to recommend us.

Communication about fitting date was wrong with the supplier and installer blaming each other. Installation ended up three days later than we were told. Thankfully the door is beautiful and the installers were professional. Be very wary of ordering if you’re on any kind of tight timeline.

Consider choosing a different provider…

Consider choosing a different provider as our experience was less than satisfactory. Despite their promising delivery timelines, we were let down by the lack of punctuality and commitment. Initially, we received incorrect measurements for our door, which we fortunately corrected in time to avoid any manufacturing errors. Just before the promised delivery date, we encountered a delay due to quality control issues, extending our wait by a week. Today, we were informed of an additional five-day delay, leaving us uncertain about the actual arrival date. As of now, the door has not been delivered.
