I recently posted an advert on Guntrader, and frankly, it was a waste of time and money. I had high hopes for a quick sale, but the reality was far from it.
The Issues:
Zero Genuine Interest: Not a single legitimate buyer reached out. Every single person who responded to my advert was a blatant scammer.
Security Concerns: I spent more time filtering through suspicious emails and "is this still available" phishing attempts than actually discussing the firearm.
No Sale: Despite the listing being active and priced competitively, the gun didn't sell.
It feels like the platform has become a playground for bad actors, and there doesn't seem to be enough verification or protection in place for private sellers. I won't be using this service again—I'd rather trade it into a local dealer than deal with the headache of another listing here.

We work hard behind the scenes to monitor and remove suspicious activity, and we’re constantly improving our systems to reduce the presence of scammers on the platform. Unfortunately, as with any online marketplace, there are individuals who attempt to misuse it, but it’s something we actively manage every day.
In terms of your advert’s performance, I can appreciate how disappointing it is when a sale doesn’t come through. However, there are often multiple factors at play — including pricing, market demand, timing, and the specifics of the item itself — and while we aim to provide strong exposure, we’re not able to guarantee a sale.
That said, your experience with suspicious responses is not the standard we want for our users. If you still have any of the messages or email addresses, we’d really appreciate you forwarding them on so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
I completely understand your hesitation about using the platform again, but if you do decide to give it another try in the future, we’d be more than happy to assist and offer guidance to help improve your experience.

Only had 2 enquiries
Only had 2 enquiries, first was a scammer from London, the second agreed to buy and would come tomorrow to pick it up, then messaged to say he wasn’t coming! So not a great result. Will try again somewhere else, or maybe just keep it.
The search section is not very good. You can’t serch a specific make/model of rifle. You can only search rifle type then have to scroll through pages of guns you are not interested in. I’m guessing most people looking know the make/model they are looking for!

I had my advert up for 1 month and in that time I was emailed 6 times from scammed, its a good job I know what to look out for. Could of easily fooled someone else with a dangerous outcome. I think guntrader should be doing extra to try stop this from happening

Thanks for your feedback. You can make changes to selected fields after posting an advert, including lowering the price, so you should still have some control after your listing goes live. If you’re unable to do this or it’s not working as expected, please give us a call so we can check your account and help resolve it.
We’re not aware of any broken gateways at present, but if you are experiencing errors when signing in or using the platform, please contact us directly so we can investigate and fix any issues as quickly as possible.

Firstly they took money out twice for the advert but did refund after a while. Then got two emails from blokes that were sending couriers to pick the gun up if I sold them it by sending bank transfer details. Yeah right. !

The situations you described do sound like common scam attempts, and we strongly advise users to avoid sharing bank details or accepting unusual courier arrangements.

Absolute waste of time and money
Absolute waste of time and money! I received approximately 5 email enquiries all from Scammers offering to pay me by certified cheque and will not be using this platform in future! Also when I enquired to retrieve a previous advert which I placed 2 or 3 years ago on this website, I received a reply from Lisa at Guntrader telling me that the advert should be saved in my account. The advert clearly dropped off the system and this should have been retrieved for me. This website has clearly gone down hill since it has been taken over from the previous management.

Unfortunately, scam attempts are an issue across many online marketplaces and are not unique to Guntrader. We actively work to identify and reduce this type of activity, but some still occasionally get through despite our safeguards.
Regarding your previous advert, listings created 2–3 years ago would have been stored on our old system. Since then, Guntrader has undergone a full website and platform update, and data from the previous system is not transferable or retrievable.

I advertised my shotgun as a hushpower…
I advertised my shotgun as a hushpower but when i searched for it under that search word it didnt show. Edit: I have now changed this from 1 to a 4 star review. The customer service was excellent and dealt with the original problem really well and gave me another months advert. So although the advertising process could be clearer and easier the customer service is excellent.
