Don’t waste your money - terrible design
Don’t waste your money. We were excited about creating our own compost and the claims promise you the world. We have the hotbin mega and no one tells you how cumbersome it is to first assemble and then try to use it. The instructions are that you need to “feed” it regularly, ideally once or twice a week. This in itself is not an issue, but the lid fits so tight (it’s not hinged or anything practical like that) and even with both of us try in prise it off we failed to do so. It says not to use any tool to avoid damage to the polystyrene but we had to use a piece of wood to carefully losen the lid. I can see if we would do this every time it will break soon. The whole experience left us angry and seriously disappointed. The concept might be a good one but the design is not fit for purpose. Oh and did o mention you have to take the whole thing apart to get the compost out? That’s just insane. Total buyers regret - do not make the same mistake as us.

What concerns me is rats may chew…
What concerns me is rats may chew through the material as it’s isn’t very tough .
The straps to keep the door closed fall down all the time and very temporary.

The concerns you’ve raised about durability and the door straps are important to us, and we want to make sure you feel confident in what you’ve purchased.
Whilst we do not claim the HOTBIN to be rodent proof as rats in particular can chew through concrete the HOTBIN has been designed and tested to ensure its attraction to all unwanted visitors (including mice and rats) is minimised and in 99.5% of cases no issues are reported.
Regarding the door straps, these are only for additional security. The hatch will not fall off without the straps. However, if there is a lot of pressure behind the hatch from a high volume of compost then it may push the hatch out a little – this is most likely to happen if compost is not removed from the HOTBIN on a regular basis.
For further help on tightening the strap please contact our customer service team who will get this sorted for you and please check out our website for advice on further deterrents you can put in place for rodents if you still have concerns.

Thanks for leaving your review - we apologise for the issue with the shipping. Unfortunately a system error meant that the shipping cost for sending a HOTBIN to Ireland was also being applied to all other products - we refunded this as quickly as possible on the day the order was placed.

It works.
The delivery was prompt and provided you follow the instructions, it definitely works. It took a couple of weeks to get up to the temperature at which you can put most bio-degradable materials in.

I think the bin will be great but not…
I think the bin will be great but not yet.
It’s going to take at least a month for the bin to heat up, provided I feed it regularly.
For some reason I expected it to heat up more quickly- daft really because I have been making my own compost for years, and it takes about a year.
So still hopeful that it will deliver as promised
