Lumiere research program is one of the best things that happened to me. Before Lumiere, I didn't fully realize what it took to write an actual research paper. The program’s strength lies in the personalized mentorship it provides. Your mentor challenges you to move beyond your comfort zone and provides any necessary guidance needed to succeed. Trying new tools, tackling hard problems, and receiving constructive feedback changed how I think and solve problems. It's an incredible program for any student looking to test their limits and build real research aptitude. Their value for money is what sets Lumiere apart. I wouldn't have been able to join the research program if it weren’t for their breakthrough scholarship program. I would recommend all students who look forward to working in the research field to gain experience in writing their first research paper with Lumiere.

Lumiere might be the one program I would never forget being a scholar in. What I accessed through Lumiere are things I am yet to fully benefit from, whether it is the mentorship and the benefits that came with it, the skills I gained from working on an empirical paper, or the groundbreaking results I reached.

Doing my research was incredible with Lumiere. I acquired all the fundamental knowledge about research. The program was very flexible, letting me choose the time when I am available, so the schedule did not cause any trouble. My mentor and manager were great and responsive.

My mentor helped teach me quite a lot about a field I had very minimally studied before: immunology. When I first entered Lumiere, I had my mind set on algorithms and technical bioinformatics, but was not really sure where to apply it. And that is when he introduced me to the incredible field of immunology, and I am beyond excited to state that the algorithm we both developed uncovered a new finding. Lumiere helped me put my first step forward in interdisciplinary work, and now a bounty of scientific research lies ahead for me to tackle; for that I am endlessly grateful.

### What was your experience with the Lumiere Research Program?

My experience with the Lumiere Research Program was extremely valuable. At the beginning, I viewed the research as another project on my to-do list, but as I explored my topic , AI adoption in businesses, I became genuinely invested in the research. It gradually became a daily part of my life, and I found myself constantly asking what I had learned, what I could improve, and what contribution I could make through my research.

A major strength of the program was the support I received from my mentor , Hrithik , and program manager, Kabir. They were both actively involved throughout the process, providing guidance, feedback, and support whenever I needed it. The workshops and research resources were also extremely helpful in strengthening my understanding of academic research and improving my paper.

Overall, I believe the Lumiere Foundation has created a strong environment for young students to develop as researchers and future leaders. The program not only helped me complete a research project but also deepened my interest in AI and encouraged me to think more critically about the role of research in addressing real-world problems.

I participated in the Lumiere Research Scholar Program for 12 weeks, starting on June 1, 2026, completing an individual research project.

To begin with, I would not have been able to afford the program without financial assistance. I applied because Lumiere offers scholarships to strong applicants, and I was fortunate enough to receive one. I was incredibly grateful for this opportunity, so I made it my goal to give 100% throughout the entire program and justify the investment Lumiere made in me.

The program was very well structured. From the very beginning, we had a clear 12-week roadmap that outlined exactly what was expected of us. During the program, I had nine one-on-one meetings with my mentor. Before each meeting, I completed assignments that involved carefully reading and analyzing scientific papers, answering open-ended questions, and critically evaluating the research. During our meetings, we discussed my work, identified the most important findings to include in my final review paper, refined my research focus, and even adjusted the title of my paper as my understanding of the topic evolved. I also had the opportunity to ask questions whenever I needed clarification, which helped me develop a much deeper understanding of the literature and ensured that I interpreted the papers correctly.

One of my favorite aspects of the program was how organized everything was. The platform clearly showed every assignment, included detailed guides for completing each task, and sent reminders about upcoming deadlines. I also had a program manager who was always available to answer my questions. If unexpected circumstances arose, there was flexibility to request deadline extensions, which made the experience much less stressful.

I am genuinely proud of the review paper I completed and confident in the quality of my work. The Writing Center helped me polish the grammar and language, while my mentor suggested improvements to make certain sentences sound more scientific and academically appropriate. However, the vast majority of the work was completed independently, and I truly appreciate that the program encouraged students to think critically and develop their own research and writing skills rather than simply providing answers.

As a non-native English speaker, the program was especially challenging in the best possible way. Before reading many of the scientific papers, I often had to learn 70–80 new words, including technical terminology related to brain regions, amino acids, proteins, and other neuroscience concepts. Over the course of the program, I learned more than 400 specialized scientific terms. Although it required a great deal of effort, this process allowed me to understand the literature at a much deeper level.

I believe this experience will help me feel much more confident when studying neuroscience at university and will make it easier for me to understand complex scientific material in the future.

Overall, I am extremely grateful to Lumiere for providing me with this opportunity and, most importantly, for making it financially accessible. Without the scholarship, I simply would not have been able to participate. I already recommend this program to my friends, and I will continue to do so. I believe it is valuable not only as an extracurricular activity or an impressive addition to a university application, but also as an incredible opportunity for personal and intellectual growth. The program teaches you how to think like a researcher, read scientific literature critically, communicate ideas effectively, and develop skills that will benefit you far beyond the program itself.

Lumiere Education is such an enlightening and educational platform that I had the privilege of discovering.

Getting accepted into the research program was one of the best memories I have. Screaming and crying, I was so happy to get accepted.

This entire summer has been amazing! Researching a topic I'm passionate about, working alongside an incredible mentor and the lumiere team, it was all so wonderful. I would definitely recommend it to others.

If there's one thing a student in high-school should do before university, it's definitely to apply to the research program!

Participating in the Lumiere Research Scholar Program was one of the most intellectually rewarding and challenging experiences of my academic journey so far. Working one-on-one with a dedicated PhD mentor pushed me far beyond the typical high school curriculum, teaching me how to navigate peer-reviewed literature, structure a rigorous research methodology, and refine my writing into a polished scholarly paper. While the program demanded a substantial time commitment and required a lot of self-discipline to stay on top of the weekly milestones alongside my regular schoolwork, the structured guidance kept me grounded every step of the way. Ultimately, Lumiere not only gave me a deep, hands-on understanding of my chosen field, but it also built my confidence as an independent thinker and writer ready to tackle college-level academic research.

Lumiere gave me the chance to do a full research project for the first time in my life — from running real experiments to actually writing and finishing a research paper. I never thought I'd be able to do something like this on my own. The whole experience was so supportive; everyone I worked with was genuinely kind, and I got so much help with the writing side of things whenever I got stuck. It pushed me to learn skills I didn't have before and made me a lot more confident in myself as a researcher.

Paired with a great match mentor for your area of interest. Everyone wants to help you succeed in writing a research paper. There were lots of resources and structure to the program. It was made easy to contact mentor, program director, and publication specialist, writing coach, etc.

Lumiere Education gave me something I had never thought I would have access to, the chance to have my ideas taken seriously and to do research at a level I had always wanted to reach.

As a Syrian student growing up in an environment where opportunities for independent research and academic mentorship are extremely limited, pursuing serious research was something I had to seek out for myself. I already had the curiosity, ambition, and willingness to do the work. What I lacked was access to someone who could challenge my thinking at the level I wanted to be challenged, and help me turn that ambition into rigorous research.

That is where Jacob Malama came in.

Jacob was far more than a mentor throughout this experience. He became a brother and a friend, but what I valued most was the intellectual respect he gave me. He never approached me as a student who needed to be taught what research was. He approached me as someone with ideas worth challenging.

He took my questions seriously. He challenged my assumptions, pushed me to defend my decisions, and expected me to think carefully about every part of my work. When I brought him an idea, he did not simply tell me whether it was right or wrong. He pushed me to understand why. Our meetings felt like genuine research discussions, where I could question my own thinking, rethink an argument, and push an idea further.

Throughout the process, from developing my research question and proposal to designing my methodology, analyzing evidence, and completing my final paper, I became much more deliberate about how I approached research. I learned to ask better questions, challenge what I think I know, defend my reasoning, and let the evidence shape my conclusions.

By the end of the program, I had developed my research into a paper that I was proud to submit for publication.

That is what I value most about my experience with Lumiere. It did not simply teach me how to produce a research paper. It gave me the space to take my own ideas seriously, test them rigorously, and develop them into meaningful academic work.

And coming from Syria, that opportunity carries a significance that is difficult to put into words. Where I come from, access to this kind of mentorship and academic environment is extraordinarily limited. Lumiere gave me access to something I would have struggled to find on my own, and Jacob made sure I was never treated as though my background limited the level of work I could do.

I am deeply grateful to Lumiere for giving me the opportunity, and to Jacob for treating my ideas, my questions, and my work with genuine intellectual respect.

I came into Lumiere wanting to conduct serious research. I left with a sharper mind, stronger research instincts, and a much deeper understanding of what it means to do work that I can genuinely stand behind.

My experience with Lumiere Education was very valuable, especially because it gave me the opportunity to work on an independent research project with the guidance of a mentor. When I joined the program, I had very little experience with the process of developing a research paper, but throughout the program I learned how to navigate scientific literature, refine a research question, conduct a scoping review, and critically evaluate and organize research findings.

One of the most rewarding parts for me was seeing my project gradually develop from an initial idea into an actual research paper. Through this program, I was introduced to an area of neuroscience I had not explored in depth before. I also learned how to use different digital tools and to think much more critically about how scientific evidence should be presented.

The process was definitely challenging at times, particularly when I had to revise parts of my paper or rethink how I was presenting the evidence, but those challenges ultimately made me more independent and confident as a researcher. Having a mentor who could provide feedback and help me think through these decisions was especially valuable. I also really appreciated the support system provided by Lumiere beyond the mentorship itself, including the guidance from the project manager and the additional resources available throughout the program. It made the research process feel much more structured and gave me support when I was unsure about how to approach certain parts of the project.

Overall, Lumiere gave me the opportunity to experience what doing research actually feels like as a student, while providing both the independence to develop my own project and the support to do so successfully. It motivated me to continue exploring neuroscience and research in the future.

Lumiere taught me that research is not about blindly accepting what scholars have already written, but about actively contributing to the conversation. Throughout the program, I learned to question existing arguments, look for missing data and perspectives, and think critically about whether the evidence actually supports the conclusions being made.

Most importantly, I gained confidence in my own voice as a researcher. I realized that even as a student, I can identify gaps in established research and ask questions that challenge existing assumptions. This made me much more comfortable contributing to academic discussions rather than simply taking published information for granted.

I believe this shift in mindset will stay with me far beyond the program. It has made me more curious, critical, and confident in forming my own opinions, and, more importantly, in being willing to defend and question them.

Lumiere has truly made a big impact on my education overall. Not only have the coaches and mentors been very supportive and helpful, the program has taught me so many valuable research skills as well as growing my deductive reasoning that have boosted awareness of the explorations of multitudes of topics. I have enjoyed this encouraging learning environment very much and would definitely recommend it!

I had a great experience with the Lumiere Research Scholar Program. This was my first academic research project, and it gave me the opportunity to explore a topic that combines two of my main interests: artificial intelligence and genetics.

With the guidance of my mentor, Sharan, I learned how to develop a research question, analyze scientific literature and data, and structure an academic paper. His feedback throughout the process helped me understand both the strengths of my work and the areas I can continue to improve.

The program was a valuable introduction to academic research and has motivated me to continue developing my skills in AI, genetics, and biomedical science. I’m very grateful to my mentor and the Lumiere team for their guidance and support throughout this experience.

This program did an amazing job on communicating with me and helping me through my scientific journey. It’s a great way for high schoolers up their college applications while also learning and diving deeper into topics that they are interested in.

I gained access to Lumiere through the Foundation Scholarship, and it turned out to be a really positive experience. I already had some raw research experience before joining, but this program actually helped me properly plan, complete, and master the entire process.

The absolute best perk is getting paired with a supportive and collaborative PhD mentor. Along with that, the support they offer through their writing coaches is really solid, especially if you are new to doing this kind of work. I got two dedicated sessions with a writing coach to get direct feedback on both my first and final drafts, which kept things on track.

Honestly, it’s a pretty great opportunity for first-timers who are completely new to research, or even for people who already have some background but want to collaborate with an expert to make their research truly impactful.

As a 2026 Lumiere Individual Research Program scholar, I wanted to share what you can expect from the program.First of all, a PhD-level mentor or professor will help you with your research, guiding you from picking a topic to finalizing and revising your work.Second of all, you can use workshops and resources to better understand how to write and structure your research.Third of all, the writing and publication center is ready to help you with your writing and publication strategy.At the end of the program, you will have a fully completed, college-level research paper.

I attempted to attend the orientation meetings, but was unable to because there were persistent technical issues with both of the scheduled sessions. Even after confirming the meeting times with staff, the meeting links they provided consistently displayed a message indicating that the host was in another meeting.

Communication from the staff was also extremely unresponsive. Despite sending multiple follow-up emails requesting clarification and assistance, I received little to no meaningful response. At several points, the experience became so disorganized that I genuinely questioned whether the process was legitimate. They also charged me additional fees in error, which were only refunded after I contacted them and pointed out their mistakes.
