Booked and paid for a van hire (including a deposit). They cancelled at the last minute, saying no van available.

Still waiting for a refund, FOUR WEEKS after the booking.

After hiring a van for 24 hours all was fine. We realised the night before collection that we may need a couple more hours so called and was told we could only have until midday instead of 9.30 but would be charged a full 24 hours. That was fine, we rushed to move house so the van would be ready for collection, didn’t top up tiny bit of fuel used as would have taken us over mid day. …..
Van then left outside our old house for 3 days until I chased them up to collect. Didn’t want to be held responsible if it was stolen.
2 weeks later just been charged another £40 for fuel
£440 for just over 24 hours hire.

This company should be avoided. High prices are fine if the service and vehicle you receive are good.
I hired a 7.5t lorry to move to France.
It was left in a side street 3 days before it was booked and the key posted. No handover. No check list. No info on things needed. The vehicle was dirty. Had a service due light on for 5 months before. The suspension banged on one side. The add blue light came on after less than 100 miles costing me more money. The vehicle went in to limp mode in France at night in the dark and we had to drive in limp mode until we could find a garage open that had add blue for sale.
This vehicle was not fit for the journey it was hired for.
DO NOT HIRE FROM THIS COMPANY.
THEY DONT CARE ABOUT ANYTHING AFTER YOU HAVE PAID!
AVOID!!!!!

One of the worst companies I've ever had to deal with. Not o nly are their vans twice the price of other companies, their customer service is disgusting.

Book 2 vans for 11am delivery. Told the day before that one can be there for midday the other some time before 5pm? Do you want them or a refund.

Told I want a refund so miraculously they find 2 vans that can be delivered at 11am so I 'can't be refunded'

I have absolutely zero expectation of these vans arriving and Marcelles customer service is absolutely disgusting. I've never spoken to a more cocky, arrogant little twirp in my life.

Great company to deal with. A seamless and a really easy process. Highly recommend and we wouldn't use any other hire company now.

This company is overpriced and unreliable. I was left waiting for 2 hours for a towing vehicle which I had specified had to be at my location by 6 in the evening. The outcome of this was we missed our pre arranged collection time putting our business in jeopardy. The vehicle arrived filthy full of mud and rubbish. No time to clean it as we needed it do an event the next day.
When I hired I asked if I had to pay toll fees to which the said that as they owned the vehicle and it was used by many others using toll roads they paid. This was not the case at all and I received penalty notices. When I challenged them about it the person I spoke to denied it, obviously annoyed by being challenged by a woman and hung the phone up after shouting over me. I wrote a letter of complaint but no one got back to me. Looking at some of the other reviews they really don’t care so I would advise to find an alternative hire company. They are also really overpriced

've been using Nationwide Van Hire for the past three years and I genuinely can't fault them. Every booking has been smooth, every van has been clean and reliable, and the customer service has always been top-notch. Whether it's short-term hire or longer trips, they've consistently delivered exactly what I needed without any issues. It's rare to find a company that maintains such high standards over time, but Nationwide Van Hire has done just that. Highly recommended!

They dropped off vehicle early. The delivery driver was very respectful

Easy to book, most of the time they have availability, prices are reasonable considering they drop and pick up the van.
Please bear in mind that sometimes they pick up the vehicle after hours or weekend and insist on leaving the key somewhere outside for them to collect. This makes me uncomfortable.
Spare tyre may not be available and if there is a puncture, especially outside working hours, there will be a hefty charge to sort out the tyres by them.
If there is a PCN or congestion charge notice, you will be paying 2 admin fees on top of the penalty charge, one by Nationwide and other by the hire company. We were charged £80 as admin fee ( 35+45). Nationwide is an intermediary, not the hire company.
Despite all the above, we regularly hire vans from them for their efficiency, price and availability.

Minibus itself was good and at a reasonable price, the only downside is that although collection is due within 3 days after the end of the lease, the van is still sat on my driveway 5 days later with no confirmed date of pick up, despite numerous phone calls chasing up. Even threatening to charge rent for use of my driveway does not make any difference.

This was my first time using an online service and I wasnt sure what to expect. I had quite a tight timeframe in which to use the van so I was worried about it being there on time. When I arrived at my office the next morning the van was already there and a quick phone call told me where the key was hidden. The van was nearly new, had plenty of fuel in it and everything was great. The van performed perfectly for what I needed to do and the job was finished in the early afternoon. I parked the van at the office and the next day a gentleman arrived to collect it. He had a quick check around the van and that was it. It was a very smooth and easy process which was absolutely stress free. I would recommend NationwideHire for all your vehicle hire requirements.

The van was as described, clean and tidy. Delivery and collection were amended to suit the drivers, but was always optional and well communicated. A great service.

Booking the vehicle was straightforward over the phone. The car was delivered to us the evening before that we had arranged and collected from us the morning after that previously arranged. Excellent service, always available to contact by phone if necessary. Friendly and efficient service.

As with others, can't give 0 star reviews.

I hired a van in March 2022. It arrived 4 hours late and when we were to meet them to hand it back, they didn't tell us they weren't coming until that evening or even the next day. We took photos and left it as agreed at the address they'd brought it to, which we had moved out of the day before.
They took extra money for petrol despite us filling it up- the bank investigated and gave me the money back.

However, that was just the start-
13 months later, they sent us a bill for over £650 for damage which we hadn't caused. They provided the return document with photos which was clearly filled in retrospectively as their photos didn't match ours at all, if it was even the same vehicle- the number plate isn't visible. We refused to pay and the bank advised me to keep my credit card blocked to prevent them taking money again, which I did until this Autumn.
Roll on 3.5 years, and the minute I unblocked the card, they've taken the "damage" money from my credit card without discussion or warning. The bank are investigating and Nationwide are insistent that we damaged the vehicle.

DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY.

They are complete crooks. I don't know how they're still operating, looking at the amount of people with similar experiences on here.

First I want to clarify if I could give zero stars I would have. I hired a van a week ago for £160 for 1 days hire, it would be delivered at 08:30 the day of hire & picked up at 18:00 same day great stuff, unfortunately this is where the customer service ended. The day before the hire I was called at 16:30 to say the van I had hired had been involved in an accident & they would have to supply an alternative which would be an auto rather than a manual, no problem I thought however they then informed me it would cost an additional £29 which I reluctantly paid as I had no other option being the day before my move, the salesman did say it would still be delivered at 08:30 as per the original agreement.
So moving day rolls round & at 08:50 there was no sign of the van so I make a call to the company who said they would chase it up, no call after 20 minutes so I called them again and that is when they told me it wouldn't be delivered until 10:30 as per the agreement, (when I paid the additional fee they entered me into a new agreement & despite saying it would be delivered at the original time they changed the booking to 10:30 unknown to me). So 10:45 comes around and still no van so I call them again & they said there has been a problem & the van wont be with me until 13:00 but it would still be a days hire regardless of it being some 5.5hrs later than originally booked. Eventually I managed to book a van with a different company that I picked up within 20 minutes hassle free for only £85 & cancel this booking for a refund. Every time I called the staff were rude, arrogant & showed no empathy towards my situation saying it is what it is & it isn't their fault, Gary was particularly rude & hung up on me while I was on hold for 5 minutes while they messed me around. I appreciate this is a long review however this company were completely unprofessional, I would seriously recommend people think twice before hiring from here, they are only a broker & don't physically own the vans, they just hire them & add their own extortionate mark up on them.

Tried scamming my deposit for unwarranted repairs. Were impossible to communicate with being unresponsive and dismissive. Also rented out a campervan with hardly any functional amenities.

Reported to my Bank who successfully refunded my deposit after 2 months of battling. I've also reported them to the Trading Standards and will be seeking legal compensation. They are a dishonest company who profit off of people's inexperience. Aovid at all cost. They will rent you a vehcile but you will most certainly lose your deposit due to sham claims.

The people who work there are low lives and overt criminals.

Poor quality van , always had service lights on , collected van photographed it and said nothing . Next we get charge for £230 valet for cab and over £1000 charges . Avoid at any cost these are absolute rip of merchants . £230 for a valet !!!! Thieves.

If I could give them no stars I would,
I hired a van 7 days in advance of when I needed it. The job was cancelled the next day so I emailed and phone to cancel the van six days before it was due. I got charged £42 as a “booking fee” . Other van rental companies understand how jobs can change and let you cancel with a full refund only a couple of day.
I’ll never use them again.

Originally booked a flatbed van for 2 days at a cost of £385. Had an email an hour later to tell me it would actually be £714 because they had to get a van from another branch.
I cancelled and went with another company for £507. Turns out the other company is the same company, lol, as the email confirmation showed. Had to log back into the same site of the company that wanted to charge me over £200 more, to enter all my details a second time.
A couple of hours later, 1 minute before their closing time, I get a phone call to tell me that they can no longer provide the vehicle. Total s**tshow. Avoid.
Now with another company for half the original price.
