Dear Nick,
The Protection Plan is not insurance, and provides limited coverage for damage to your belongings with no deductible. We encourage tenants to carry insurance that extends to their stored belongings so they are fully covered. Enrollment in the Price Self Storage Protection Plan is automatic, but you may opt-out of participation and obtain a refund for the Protection Plan payment by completing a Protection Plan Opt-Out form and providing proof of insurance within 30 days of signing the storage agreement. To obtain a copy of the Protection Plan Opt-Out Form, you may email protectionplan_optout@priceselfstorage.com or contact Price Self Storage at PO Box 27615 San Diego CA 92198 to obtain the form. Your completed form can be returned at the aforementioned email or PO Box.

So I don't understand why but i realize …
So I don't understand why but i realize self storage is a shady business. But i expected more from what I thought was a respectable name. "First month rent free! " Sure. Try a $22 "administration fee" and a $14 "mandatory insurance fee." Yeah, i know, it's somewhere in the fine print. And the $14 is every month so even the monthly rate they advertise is B.S. The people working there were really nice and the facility is decent at least.
Thanks for the reply, I was told the insurance was mandatory, not "offered" as you put it. I have homeowners insurance so I'll see if I can remove the unneeded coverage. Again, the people that helped me perfectly friendly (but did not mention this even though I mentioned I wasn't thrilled with the unexpected fees).

I'm Kelly, the marketing manager for Price Self Storage. I apologize if you did not receive all the information during the rental process. It is not our intention or business practice to be shady. Our staff are trained to thoroughly discuss all costs and benefits associated with the rental. We offer a Protection Plan that provides limited coverage for damages to your stored belongings. Within the first 30-days you may opt-out of that plan by providing proof of homeowner's or renters insurance through our Opt-Out process, after which you receive a full refund of any Protection Plan fees you paid. For your convenience, we do require that you stay on our plan if you don't have insurance that extends to your stored belongings. One benefit of the Protection Plan is zero deductible to you if loss or damage occurs. Most people are appreciative of the program that offers some coverage to them when storing their stuff. Tenants must take responsibility for their things while they're being stored.
Clean units and Friendly staff
We have used this location before. Very helpful and friendly staff. The units and building are clean and well maintained. They are easy to work with, and it is in a nice location. I would recommend this facility for all storage needs.

Haven't used the facility yet, have an upcoming move-in date. However the representative that I spoke with, Breanna, was a very knowledgeable and respectful young lady. she was very polite, professional, and patient as she helped me navigate through their process.
