Poor battery quality, dreadful customer service.
My husband had a Roodog e-bike. Sadly, the battery failed within a few months. Roodog was “out of stock” of a new replacement battery and the silly man accepted the battery replacement which was offered. This battery didn’t live very long, either.
Before the bike was 2 years old, it failed. The man at Roodog refused to honour the warranty and wanted to sell us a new battery at a cost of over £350. The excuse used was that the retailer had had this bike in stock for a little while.
Three points:
1. Roodog’s warranty says “Two years from purchase”, not from time of delivery to the retailer.
2. I don’t see why we should be penalised for something we did not know.
3. When I spoke to the man at Roodog, (before saying who I was) he said the batteries should last for 3-5years, only back-tracking when I told him of the problem we had.
He had offered to provide a battery at cost price (around 150 plus VAT) and threatened to withdraw the offer if I told anyone about the problem with the battery quality.
Having read the reply from Roodog, I can categorically state that the replacement battery failed within the 2 year period. How do I know? The bike was a birthday gift. I did not know that the bike had been in stock for such a period of time - and even if I did, why should that affect us?
Yes, my husband likes cycling. Yes, he likes electric bikes. Does he like the quality of the battery? No.
Let’s see if the new battery lasts better than the previous 2.
Do I like being accused of wanting something for nothing? No. I did, however, feel very strongly that batteries should be fit for purpose, of merchantable quality and last for a reasonable length of time AND be replaced when they fail within the warranty period.
I also feel that by leaving a review like this, it makes others aware of the need to reject used replacement batteries, not to be “fobbed off”, and chose companies who honour their warranties.
