We contacted SW James and arranged a video call with Warren as we lived to far away to travel to the showroom. We were really impressed with Warren who was so helpful with all our questions regarding the Chesterfield. His knowledge and experience was second to none, we actually felt like we were in the showroom. We decided on the Huxley and from the start to the finish of the purchase we were kept informed on the progress of the build of our new furniture. The after sales service has also been excellent! we wouldn't hesitate to recommend S.W. James to anyone wishing to purchase a Chesterfield.

We spent a great deal of time looking for the right place to buy our Chesterfield sofas and certainly chose the right company! From start to finish, Warren has been so helpful. When we went to visit the showroom, we had plenty of time to view the range and to ask questions about the sofas. We were not put under any pressure to buy. We were hugely impressed by the quality of the sofas, the beautiful leather and good, traditional construction methods. After ordering, we were kept informed at every stage of construction, from the ordering of the leather to the finishing touches, and the delivery was perfect. We are absolutely delighted with the sofas, which felt like old friends as soon as they arrived. We can highly recommend this company.

If I could give more than 5 stars I really would. After a long search for new sofas, (many that didn’t come up to my expectations ) my daughter in law suggested I try S W James. She was right I made an appointment and spoke to a very welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable man called Warren. He listened to me and knew exactly what I wanted. Two three seater “ Huxley “ chesterfields. I was able to pick the colour, and design, even the feet.
Warren kept me informed on the progress of my order through the next few weeks, and I’m now the owner of two beautiful high quality sofas. The quality of the leather and workmanship is superb to say the least. I would highly recommend this small firm to anyone who are looking for amazing bespoke sofas and chairs, go on go to them you won’t be disappointed.

If like ourselves you have been shopping and researching a quality Chesterfield then stop here and just book an appointment to visit S.W.James's showroom. We had previously (18 months) purchased what we assumed to be a quality chesterfield from Barker & Stonehouse. This panned out to be uncomfortable and had two buttons come away within its short life with us. We cut our losses and decided if going to use it daily for the next 10 years or whatever then to go top end which brings us here. We purchased a Huxley Corner Settee. We have no regrets other than we didn't search hard enough first time round to find this. All the family and our dogs love it. We take this opportunity to thank everybody at S.W.James and to anybody else reading that they come with a massive recommendation from us.

After a long search for two leather sofas, we discovered S.W.James and couldn't be more pleased we did. A brilliant company from start to finish. From our visit to the showroom to test out comfort, where Warren gave us lots of his time and helpful advice, to the delivery yesterday by two cheerful guys who had travelled over three hours to get to us in rural Lincolnshire. The quality of the sofas shines through, they are built to last and will undoubtedly outlast us! We chose a pair of Randall sofas, they look stunning and we would recommend S.W. James wholeheartedly for anyone looking for craftsmanship and style.

Our Chesterfield sofa has now lived with us for a month or two and has settled in nicely. Yes it was more expensive than some others, but it's comfortable, beautiful, made by a craftsman in England and is likely to be the only piece of furniture our kids will want to inherit.

Like many people when wishing to make a large purchase, we researched the market high and low; knowing that the selection of company providing our piece would be equally as important as the Chesterfield itself. And we trulyu landed on our feet when we found SW James! From start to finish Warren made the journey a complete joy; answering my many questions by email and then inviting us to his showroom in Bollington where he enthralled us with his knowledge of the Chesterfield history, together with the story of how SW James became the provider of the most comfortable Chesterfield available on the market today, using time-honoured traditional furniture making methods with a modern twist in comfort levels. It was there that we were able to view the various models available, all in different leathers and some with different feet, and select from the vast array of leathers available, with advice from Warren.

After that visit, we knew that we had found the company that we could trust to make the most important purchase that we had made for some time, and one that we would live with for many years to come. Warren had made our choice easy and informed, and our custom-made 200cm Huxley Chesterfield in Rustic Tawny leather began her journey. Warren and Jamie kept in touch through-out the process and we didn’t have to wait long before our Chesterfield arrived. The delivery went very smoothly indeed, with a two-man team who had given us a short delivery window and a quick call 30 minutes before arriving. Warren had even supplied felt feet pads for our wooden floor and, as an extra lovely surprise, a set of matching feet for our ottoman which we were absolutely delighted with. The level of detail and the extra touches are what make SW James a company who are head and shoulders above the rest; their customer service is absolutely second-to-none and the whole team are to be applauded for that, as it is rare to find these days. They truly care about their customers and want them to be happy and satisfied with their purchases; I feel that we will be customers for life and we will certainly be back for more purchases in the future.

As for our Huxley Chesterfield itself, it truly is the most comfortable Chesterfield one could ever wish for. And truly the most beautiful sofa I have even seen; the craftsmanship is quite something to behold. We know full well that this is a sofa which will remain in our family for many many years to come, and will only get better with age. So, if you are in the market for the most comfortable Chesterfield available, made via traditional time-honoured, reliable and respected methods but with an extra modern take in comfort level, then consider a look at SW James and you’ll certainly be pleased that you did!

We chose to invest in a couple of SW James settees as we were tired of cycle of replacing furniture in our previous house. because of the value of the spend we chose to visit SW James's showroom to sit on what we would purchase. on the said day we were met by Warren who gently walked and guided us through acquiring a hand-made settee process. Never pushed and never hurried, was a lovely experience and in our mind the correct way to buy, very much worth the effort and distance. SW James were willing to accommodate a relatively short duration delivery, for Christmas. We chose to let their crafts-people deliver in time and the wait was very much worth the lovely 2 settees we proudly have in our living room ...... we would and will do again, the lady in our house is already speaking about one for our lower seating area. I ordered a Berkeley tub chair from this company and have to say it was a good experience from start to finish. I spoke to Warren before I ordered as we were not able to go to the shop. He is very knowledgeable and helpful and is obviously very passionate about his furniture. I would say it’s almost non-existent these days that you can speak to the owner of a company to discuss a purchase, so I was thoroughly impressed by this. Because I ordered before Xmas, I knew I would have to wait a while but honestly, it was worth it. Delivery was as perfect as the chair. It is beautifully made and very comfortable - we love it - so much so we hope to order a settee in the near future.

From first contact to eventual delivery, this has been a very pleasant, easy-going, and rewarding experience.

During the summer of 2025, my wife and I were caravaning in the Peak District. We were joined by our daughter and son-in-law, who had previously purchased a Huxley settee from S.W.James. They were considering an additional chair, and as S.W.James's premises were within easy travelling distance, we accompanied them there. We were met by Warren, who was very pleasant and extremely informative on the history of good Chesterfield suites. Our daughter ordered her new chair and was delighted with the final product. Our input at the time was much more casual. We were considering changing furniture in our sunroom, which is used every day, but we were not giving it serious consideration at that time. Although we were very noncommittal, Warren was still more than happy to give us ideas and a price guide.

Fast forward to January 2026, and our decision to definitely replace this furniture. I contacted Warren as our requirements had changed. As a consequence, we flew over from our home in Northern Ireland and had an extremely pleasant morning with him. On this occasion, Warren was much more specific in the details, providing guidance and information on everything from the quality of their leather to frame construction, the composition of cushions, the various furniture style options, and even the type of feet that would suit us best. What we came away with was the furniture equivalent of a quality, tailored suit. It fitted absolutely perfectly. We purchased a three-seater and two two-seater Huxley settees. Each is totally unique and nothing like what could be purchased in-store. We left absolutely delighted with our order.

Manufacture was estimated at about six weeks. During this period, Warren kept us well informed with regular updates. He also arranged the final delivery to Northern Ireland. The furniture duly arrived on time.

And that's when we ultimately realised what we had purchased. This was a very high-end quality product, clearly covered with superior hides. The aroma alone was something else. If only you could bottle it. The quality of finish was absolutely amazing. You could clearly see these were made by craftsmen who take immense pride in their work. Absolute perfection is the only standard that is acceptable. These settees are a thing of beauty, only surpassed by their magnificent comfort. Warren had warned us that initially, they might feel a bit hard, but once used, they would soften. He was spot on. I could only guess at what their likely cost would be in-store, which would be far in excess of what we paid, but then we would have also lost out on those personal trimmings and features.

We are absolutely delighted with our furniture. Thank you, Warren, for taking the time to advise us, and more especially, a massive thank you to all the manufacturing team for their efforts in producing such a superb, high-quality product.

I suspect it probably goes without saying, but I will say it anyway, I would highly recommend S.W.James to anyone who is considering purchasing a Chesterfield suite. They might be a little more expensive than an in-store product, but what you receive is far superior in quality, finish, comfort, and, I suspect, life expectancy and ultimately value for money.

I couldn't find my ideal Chesterfield locally so I had to take a chance on an online order. When I found S.W. James (tucked away on Instagram) I was immediately impressed by the more characterful, less "warehouse" vibe of their website, and the sofas were exactly what I was looking for, including less deep styles for smaller rooms. Warren was very helpful and enthusiastic throughout the whole process. He outlined the schedule for building and delivering the sofa, which turned out to be entirely accurate, and provided weekly updates. When the sofa arrived I was both relieved and delighted that it was everything I had hoped. Quality and comfort are both top-notch. A great experience all round.

We are delighted with our new sofa. The process from beginning to end was very smooth. We live in a grade II listed farmhouse with narrow doorways so our sofa was built within our snug room which worked very well.

From start to finish, Warren was incredibly helpful and understanding, making thoughtful tweaks to the Huxley design so it perfectly matched the style we had been in search of for over ten years. He patiently provided leather samples so I could find my exact shade of navy blue, and incorporated subtle silver trim and feet, giving us the detail we wanted without tipping into too much bling. Nothing ever felt like too much trouble.

We also received regular updates throughout the manufacturing process, which made us feel completely reassured. The team even worked tirelessly to ensure delivery before our new street door was installed — service above and beyond what we expected.

Delivery day was exceptional. Neil and Jenny were outstanding, so careful and professional. They even removed our street door to manoeuvre the sofa in without causing any damage. Despite Neil injuring himself in the process (and having to buy a new top before heading to the next customer!), they remained positive and committed throughout. That level of dedication says everything about the company.

The finished furniture is beautiful, comfortable, and expertly made, exactly the Chesterfield-style look we wanted. Buying furniture online can feel like a leap of faith, but we are so glad we trusted S W James. We would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for high-quality bespoke furniture and genuinely exceptional customer service with the added bonus that it’s made in the U.K.

We requested samples which arrived promptly .It took a couple of says to decide on the leather as they are all beautiful and very good quality. Having decided on the chesterfield and the leather I spoke with Warren, one of the co-founders of the company and we placed the order. Delivery was 6-8 weeks . The chesterfield arrived and the delivery men were professional and very polite. We couldn't have asked for better service all round. We have no hesitation in recommending SE James/
