Disappointed

The staff were very polite and helpful though overstretched. The portions were delicious but small and overpriced, for example £7 for a side of greens that consisted of four small leaves of kale. The Pig has become another victim of corporate greed: charge as much as you can and cut costs as much as you can. Such a shame.

Poor customer experience

I was excited for the Pig in Stratford to open (all over their website “opening 2024). I thought a gift voucher for my Grandfather so I could take him for a nice meal locally.
Completely misleading- this was pushed to 2025 and it’s still not opening and now says “early stages of planning”.
Whilst I appreciate there is probably a legitimate reason for this delay, the frustration is they are offering no resolution for me and the gift voucher I bought is going to go to waste.
I cannot travel in excess of 2 hours which is the alternative.
Very disappointed and noting the other reviews, they just don’t seem to care.

We stayed at the pig in bridge- booked a hop pickers hut! Oh my lordy what a place- cost a fortune but so worth it for a special occasion. They made my husband feel very welcome on his birthday! The staff were absolutely lovely - the food was outstanding and the hop pickers hut was adorable. Stef in the reataurant was particularly lovely! We also had massage treatments- they are very expensive for what you get- this was my only let down - my husband loved his but my lady talked the whole way through about her parents and then did some really weird sales pitch at the end! I came out feeling not relaxed but focused on all my ‘loose skin’ lol! Bless her she was very young so she will understand skin when shes a lot older lol!! So that was the only waste of money….i woyld have hoped after recognising this there would gave been some sort of apology but they just said some customers like to relax and some are very chatty! Otherwise i would highly recommend and would return!

Terrible Experience!

Sadly, very very poor experience. This was a double birthday treat between the 4 of us. The place has all the hallmarks of the accountants having taken over the asylum. Firstly, on a winter’s night in a car park without lights or signs, we spent 10 mins finding the entrance. The entrance we eventually found wasn’t even marked as an entrance. When we mentioned this, we were told that one else had ever complained, like we were stupid. We were not alone wandering round the car park and buildings trying doors I might add. We had booked a table for 7.45 but fancied a drink first in a separate sitting room. We were told our table was ready whenever we liked. At 8.10, we asked to go to our table. We were told it wasn’t ready. It seems we’d been bumped (I’ll leave out the bit about a drink poured down my trousers by the waiter - it can happen). When we finally got to our table we had the food menus but not the wine list. We asked but it didn’t come until the starters arrived. We ordered some white wine which came at room temperature, poor. A quick comment about the dining room. It’s noisy - really noisy. Tables are squashed in and the acoustics are like a large shoe box. There is no carpet or curtains, just wood and glass. Everything echos around the walls. We had a round table of 1m across and we leant in to hear ourselves. Service was slow and three times we had to wave and then grab a passing waiter for attention. Then, next to us a couple left their table having paid their bill. They hadn’t walked 5 paces before a ‘crash team’ of 2 staff moved in to reset the table like a medical emergency off Casualty. It was the fastest we’d seen anyone move all evening (until the next couple left that is when it was repeated). Another couple were sat at that table before the last had left the building. Might be good business you could say but I wish the other staff were able to appear so quickly. They were just rushed off their feet due to too many tables and too few staff; hence the poor service (those accountants again…). The food was the best bit - hooray. But I’m afraid only mediocre at best for the money. Everyone was working over maximum capacity (even I suspect in the kitchens given the long waiting times) and it just wasn’t working for the clients, at least for us. Finally, at the very end of the meal (and the staff knew we had 2 birthdays to celebrate) we received a plate with some wavy writing saying something like ‘Harry Birday’ and 4 shot glasses each filled with a sorbet which was more crunchy ice than sorbet. We left it but we did at least have a laugh. Not so though at the £300 (!) bill for a miserable night out. INSULTING. NEVER AGAIN. THERE ARE MUCH MUCH BETTER OPTIONS.

Got to say it was a disappointing

Got to say it was a disappointing meal. It’s the fourth time I have been here and I have a dairy intolerance. Every time I have been here the attention to detail and adjustments for my intolerance have been amazing. Today the staff were good and attentive but the meal adjustments were nothing more than removal of the dairy included items. The pigeon breast I had was just that and nothing else! It looked and was very sparse and uninspiring, a significant cost for not a great deal. Some alternatives additions surely should be within the capability of the kitchen? To follow there was nothing inspiring for dessert other than poached pear. I would say “fruit” is the cop out version of dairy free choice. Awareness of allergies is one thing and how you deal with them is another. An expensive and disappointing meal. Thank goodness I was with good friends who made the visit fun.

The pig Canterbury!!! Lovely setting staff were ok, but poor menu don’t go if you don’t eat meat!! Nothing on the menu for you, starters and mains were rationed more like kids portions considering what they charge !! And cocktails and drinks overpriced will not be going again

Oh dear!

Having read some very positive reviews, my wife and I took two friends to The Pig in Barnsley. Our experience could not have been more different.
The food was poor with an uninspiring menu. My pork chop was far too salty and the French fries were barely edible they had so much salt. My wife’s chicken breast in a mushroom sauce was tasteless.
The service was terrible. We had to ask repeatedly for drinks and for used glasses and plates to be taken away. One of the (many) problems is that the staff clearly think ‘faux friendliness’ makes up for the lack of competent service - it doesn’t! Being asked ‘How was your day?’ on arrival and being constantly interrupted by ‘and how is everything?’ when sitting at the table, trying to have a conversation, is just annoying!
The ambience was more like a rustic pub than a £100 per head restaurant in a hotel. Bare, battered wooden floors, uncomfortable wooden kitchen chairs, chipped tables, and the experience was the same when we had coffee in one of the lounges after dinner.
The Pig’s reputation is inexplicable and reality will soon catch up unless there are some big changes.

A big disappointment

A big disappointment. I loved the brand for its combination of service, ambiance and great food, but my recent experience at Bath suggests that the group are trying to extract as much profit as possible at the expense of the brand values. Once an occasion to really look forward to, something very special and well worth paying a premium price for …. my recent experience suggests they now just deliver an ordinary experience at a premium price. Please remember what made you special

THE PIG-In the Wall

THE PIG-In the Wall, SOUTHAMPTON…a great find in Southampton.

My friend and I came here for lunch on 10th October 2025.
And thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
The staff were very friendly & tentative. The pub was situated in a beautiful old Georgian building - beside the City Walls. It was decorated beautifully inside & out, the atmosphere was magical. The food was very good especially the Chipolatas!
A bottle of Rose cost £28 which was very reasonable for the times we’re living in…
with the cost of living going up & up!
We look forward to coming back at Christmas to enjoy the ambience again!
Well done!

The Pig in the Cotswold, what a waste of…

The Pig in the Cotswold, what a waste of money, we were really looking forward to having dinner here but it was a huge disappointment. We arrived on time but had to wait half an hour to be seated. The snug (like a dungeon)and the bar were small and nowhere to sit.
The dining room looks tired with uncomfortable chairs. The food was awful, our starters, the scollops were the size of a pea and only 3 and the mozzarella starter was bland and small.Don't get me started on the main course !!,the Plaice was whole but mostly bone with very little 'meat'.No vegetables or potatoes the only side orders were "leafs" or fries.
£200 later we skipped dessert and went home hungry. The wine by the glass was very expensive and the non alcoholic red wine I had was undrinkable.
The waiting staff appeared not to have any leadership or experience. This has also put us off visiting any of the other PIGs.

The worst meal ever

Although set in beautiful grounds the restaurant is an absolute rip off. They must know this as there are plenty of bad reviews but they do not seem to care. I ordered a chicken main, when it turned up it was a plain chicken leg, no sauce or seasoning, with far too many peas with a few lardons thrown in….these lardons were rock hard. My son and husband both had the pork loin, my sons plate had a ridiculous amount of leaves and three pieces of pork, my husbands plate had less leaves and considerably more pork. Everything looks like it has just been thrown on the plate….no such thing as good presentation here. Side dishes arrived on stupid little tea plates, what a weird idea. The description of each meal is vague so you don’t really know what you are getting until it shows up. We decided to skip dessert as felt we had been ripped off enough. Will never go back and would never recommend sadly. The Pig needs to sort this out.

The Pig South Downs has changed

The Pig South Downs has changed, sadly for the worse. Our fond memories of previous visits are now distant memories.

What used to be innovative, exciting and good value is now tired, inept and overpriced.

Service is an effort, delivered by people who are keen but lack training and understanding of customer centric hospitality.

Breakfast needs a light option. Some people want just coffee and croissants or tea and toast, not a large buffet.

Sausage bap only (nothing else) cost us £24, as there was no option to just have it alone. Stupidly I assumed it would be priced separately but was informed at check out it attracts the full breakfast price. Simply greedy, avarous pricing.

Very disappointing from The Pig brand

Lovely location but dinner was disappointing. It was very busy and we had to wait 1.5 hours for our main course. Italian Merlot wine was very poor, food bland and my lamb was nearly raw and at £34 would expect better. Service inattentive and very slow. Had to ask for bread, ask twice for water. Chairs were uncomfortable. Such a shame. This was The Pig on the South Downs.

Fantastic service at The Pig, Bridge Place, Kent

Just wanted to say what a lovely place The Pig is at Bridge Place, Kent. The service was fantastic - it was our 15th wedding anniversary and they gave us several free drinks! They had researched what 15 years was (crystal) and gave us some cocktails in crystal glasses - that was very thoughtful. Food was also amazing. We stayed in a Stream Wagon with an outdoor shower and bath which was also fantastic. They also suggested some things for us to do during our stay and we ended up at a nearby vineyard which was a really lovely day.

Awful service and appalling vegetarian/vegan food

I had wanted to book The Pig hotel for a long time and so was excited to be celebrating an anniversary there. The New Forest Pig is in a good location, but a word of warning - if you want good vegetarian/ vegan food and good service do not go there. Lunch was exorbitant for not a lot, with very slow service and the wrong drinks served. Dinner was a disaster! It started with a chair that was unsafe; was followed by the discovery of chips under our chair and table which had not been cleaned from lunch. Having given the hotel one months notice that we were vegetarian/ vegan, they could only produce one completely unappetising choice for each although the menu won’t tell you what is vegetarian or not it’s a secret! It took over an hour to be served our food but by that time the very unapologetic challenging full of excuses manager kept us talking so the food we had was cold, although as we hadn’t been given cutlery we couldn’t have eaten it anyway. The food was inedible when we did, tasteless, rubbery overdone carrots, undercooked barley and onion, no garden shoots. Having been told the desert was vegan by the manager after another 15 minutes wait he said actually it’s not.
Breakfast was not much better. The vegetarian cooked breakfast minimalist and mean. The bread wasn’t restocked, nor was the pastries or vegan butter and the service was slow with over 20 minutes to wait for a coffee. So disappointing as this was meant to be a special treat. The room was nice enough but too hot and only an old noisy fan to try to cool it down and btw it’s next to a train line in case you didn’t know.

I have tried to contact the restaurant…

I have tried to contact the restaurant but no one has called me back. We booked for my birthday, a big one so decided on a special treat. Should have read here first! The food was appalling. The pork scratching starter was dry and tasteless, beetroot hummus was nice but in clearly on ration, the steak was so tough it had to spit most of it out as I just couldn’t chew through the gristle. The chicken was ok but not £34 worth of chicken and chips! Even though most if the food was left and there was chewed steak all over my plate no one asked if there was a problem. As it was a birthday treat I didn’t want to complain. One things for sure we won’t be going back £120 without any drinks and no dessert! Didn’t try the desserts after such awful starters and main meals. STAY CLEAR, SPEND YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ELSEWHERE! THIS WAS THE PIG IN THE COTSWALDS

Studland bay…

My husband and I visited the Studland Bay Pig Hotel a few weeks ago for our 20th wedding anniversary and 50th birthdays and I have been trying to decide whether to write a review. I decided that if people don't raise concerns then change won't take place. The hotel and room were lovely as was the front of house staff. My hope stone massage was one of the best I have ever had but...
The first night my husband chose the pigeon main, we couldn't believe it when a plate arrived with 14 parsnips and four pieces of pigeon the size of a 50p piece. What a disappointment! On arrival to the hotel we were told we could sit anywhere for breakfast and didn't have to wait to be seated. We sat down and after two minutes were asked it move tables as the one we were sat out was for three people. We were moved to a table which was full of dirty plates, glasses etc???? We then went to get some juice, cereal etc - no bowls, no glasses , people kept having to ask for these things. Not what you would expect for the prices being paid.
For dinner on the second night we both choose steak but when they came to take our order they said they had run out but we choose have sirloin steak. No words!! It was so tough I had to remove from my mouth and leave on the plate!! When my husband went to lay he was asked if the steak was ok and he said no! No apology or no money taken off! Shocking as other restaurants would be quick to do both. I walked in on this conversation to observe staff members pulling faces at my husband. So unprofessional. Such a shame as we wanted it love out stay but sadly will not return to any of the PiG hotels. No attention to detail and restaurant food and staff very lacking

An experience to remember - for the wrong reasons!

This review was written following a recent visit to The Pig. I have waited a few weeks before posting as I thought it right to see if my emotions had gotten the best of me and to see if the review is just.
My feelings and those of my family remain and the review stays as is!

We were looking forward to having Saturday lunch at The Pig in the South Downs with my family, having heard so much about it.
The journey there was through some delightful countryside and the setting and approach to the hotel is fabulous. We were shown into a stunning lounge, which doubled as the bar area, and enjoyed our pre-lunch drinks in front of the log burner.
Soon our table was ready and we were shown into the restaurant which overlooked the terrace and lawn. Having an early reservation meant that the restaurant was empty and quiet! All that changed however as other guests were shown to their tables and the noisy chatter became louder and louder as diners competed with each other to be heard!
Menus were duly produced and we were given time to peruse the 25 Mile Menu. Our server returned to take our order but seemed to want to take the order without moving around the table! She was on the other side of the table to me and she was expecting me to shout my request across the table in an attempt to overcome the increasing sound of chatting diners! She appeared surprised when I asked her to come around the table to take my order!
I asked to see the wine list and it was pointed out that it had been given to my wife and hidden behind the large menu! Perhaps I am wrong but I always thought that the wine list should be given to the host or head of the table! When viewed it was a very large, pretentious wine list with overpriced wines!
A server arrived with three plates and asked who was having what? She then proceeded to reach in front of my family members to place the appropriate meals in front of them. Any properly trained server should have been informed by the order taker as to which diners were having what and where they were sitting on the table! The concept of a meal being served from the left and cleared from the right seemed to have been forgotten!
Family members chose fish for their main course but not having had steak for a long time I thought a Minute Steak would be in order! How wrong could I be! The steak was tough to cut and despite a good taste was tough to chew! After my first mouthful I sent it back! What to do, do I wait 15 minutes for a replacement while my fellow diners continued enjoying their meals? Or do I order something else? I chose the Sea Bream which was delicious.
Our overall impression of The Pig in the South Downs was not a positive one. Fabulous environment, good food, ridiculously high wine prices, noisy! Personal service lacking and for £60 a head (one child menu) not somewhere we will be going back to!

One word to sum it up – Pretentious!
