Extremely positive experience! Having contacted several PCA recommended companies and not had the greatest of responses, Timberwise came and surveyed the property. Tim, their surveyor, was charming and the quote wasn't too eye-watering either. Matty came several weeks later to spray the loft area, treating the woodworm infestation. He was also polite, efficient and pleasant. Anouska, in the office, is also polite and efficient. Would thoroughly recommend!!

Nothing but a sales scam. Avoid like the plague.
Our mortgage company insisted we have a PCA-accredited damp and timber report done on our property before approving the purchase, and Timberwise were the only company available in our area (their Cheshire branch). I reluctantly hired them - I say reluctantly as the cost wasn't insignificant.
The booking was taken by Dylan Sumnall, and the survey was conducted by Charlotte Hollis.
Her report, although 'comprehensive' with photos, and diagrams etc, was full of inaccuracies and the occasional obvious lie (one example being that there was no DPC in place when it is clearly visible!).
The outcome of the report being that we were recommended needing £16,000 of damp proofing work done, most of which centred on Timberwise-specific products and services.
I made it clear from the start that I only wanted a report, but that didn't stop them in trying to sell their services.
Ironically, my mortgage company dismissed their report as they were also appalled by the bias.
I am still shocked by what a blatant sales scam Timberwise and their worthless "PCA accreditation" are. I essentially paid £360 for them to quote me for further work.
When I had a genuine damp expert examine the property, he recommended work that has cost us a little over £300 in total, and the (very little) damp that was present is now gone.
Avoid avoid avoid. Timberwise and their PCA-accreditation are nothing but a sales scam.

Timberwise service was excellent throughout the whole process from the first contact and survey to the completion of work. Everyone involved was personable, helpful and professional. Our questions about the treatment (before the treatment day) were always answered promptly and the answers were straight forward and informative. The technician who actually treated our timbers was really helpful - we were to have 2 bedrooms treated but because we'd found the hallway shared some of the floorboards with the bedroom, he treated the hallway as well with no extra charge. He also repaired some floor boards in the bedroom. We would recommend Timberwise to our friends as we think they are exceptionally reliable.

If I could give this company zero I would. I had an appointment booked for a survey. After waiting the allotted time and no one showing up I rang the company only to be told that my appointment hadn’t been booked in and I couldn’t book another for two weeks. Not only is this very bad office management it is very inconvenient as not only have I lost money due to having time off for this appointment, I now have to find a RELIABLE company to survey the work. Take my advice don’t use this company, if they can’t get the booking of appointments right what hope have they in doing the survey and indeed the work right!

Tim Fenner of Timberwise has been an absolute lifesaver. We had a water ingress issue which another independent surveyor completely misdiagnosed. Wonderful survey and report
Having had a poor survey done via an insurance company for a water leak in the house, we contacted Timberwise for a second opinion. Tom, the surveyor, did a thorough and detailed survey, indicating the likelihood of a leak below ground. He identified a leak detection team for us who subsequently identified a leak in the kitchen mains water supply. Tom's report plus his recommendations have enabled us to renegotiate with our insurer to have the leak repaired and the rooms refurbished. Thank you to all at Timberwise for enabling this process.

Excellent service from Timberwise

On the day of the treatment, our technician Mark (a different Mark!) was really great. Super stealthy (we didn’t know he was in the house…) and very polite - a really nice guy.

Highly Recommend - Trustworthy and Reliable
We dealt with Timberwise for the first time recently for clients we are selling a property for which had a suspected issue with dry rot. Jack Cowan came out initially really quickly, met me at the property and took great care in explaining his findings and was very thorough in his survey of the property. Jack confirmed there was no dry rot and a much less serious issue was in fact the cause, saving the client a lot of money and stress. The client went ahead with the works and the technician Ricky came out and carried out the works, leaving the property clean and tidy, with particular care to match the original feature skirting boards perfectly. I would highly recommend Timberwise and will be my first port of call in the future.

I had no idea what to expect
I had no idea what to expect. Simon was polite and amenable. He was diligent in covering every part of my flooring from the front door to the loft area. He was quiet and explanatory where he needed to be. Altogether an effortless morning for me and cleaned up the floor covering and went like he had not been here. More tradesman like him needed!

Great service
Just received a call from Dan who is covering your Barry area after going around to my property to give me a survey and I couldn't have been more grateful for the honest truthful advice that he gave me. It's very easy to tell a customer that something needs to be done to gain finance however he was honest in his opinion that the potential work I thought needed doing actually doesn't saving me £££ What a great company and a great employee it's refreshing to see such honesty!

Arranged a survey through Rachel
Arranged a survey through Rachel, and found her to be really helpful and friendly. Booking was straightforward and Rachel even called later that week to offer an earlier date which we accepted. Mark the surveyor rang on the due day to advise he was running late which I found to be really considerate. He arrived and all I can say is that he was really informative helpful and Friendly. Totally understood our concerns and advised us on the best cause of action and under no obligation whatsoever. We would highly recommend Timberwise for the service and professionalism .

My experience was not a happy one
My experience was not a happy one . Firstly they refused to carry out the work on the agreed date ( possible asbestos in floor adhesive ) something that should have been raised in thelr initial report . Secondly they cancelled the next agreed time with no justifiable explanation Thirdly they reneged on their offer of paying for a survey . Why sign a 15 paragraph contract that’s in Timberwise’s favour? Just use a local contractor like I did with no big upfront payment and local service . They only visited site once . Their operative was unable to converse effectively with their surveyor on mobile and was not able to converse fully with myself which was unfair to their employee ( on his own) and to me as the customer .

We’re genuinely sorry to hear that this experience left you feeling disappointed. That’s never the outcome we want for any customer.
When our technician attended as planned, a potential asbestos-containing material was identified beneath the parquet flooring. For everyone’s safety, the works were paused so that independent testing could be carried out. This is standard practice where there is any risk, and although we appreciate the inconvenience this caused, we believe it was the responsible course of action. The subsequent test confirmed the area was clear.
Unfortunately, when we returned to site and during later conversations, our team were subjected to behaviour that we felt was unacceptable. As a company, we have a duty of care to our staff, and on that basis we made the decision not to proceed further with the works. All monies paid to Timberwise for the treatment were refunded in full. The only cost not refunded was the third-party asbestos testing fee, which covered an external service already carried out.
We understand your frustration and respect your decision to use an alternative contractor. We’re sorry things didn’t work out on this occasion, and we do wish you all the best with the completed works.

Contacted Timberwise after seeing an ad online and they were prompt in dealing with my enquiry and arranging a surveyor to come to my property.
Forrest was on time, courteous and very helpful giving advice where necessary.
Overall can’t fault Timberwise for their time and efforts, would recommend!!

Damp control summer 2024
Ignored the fact that i really needed lime plaster to allow stone walls to breathe.
They just wanted to tank everything as well as no advice on electrolysis that i was contemplating. Further advice from builder did not advise it.

Illegal works suggested- avoid at all costs
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY-
We were in the process of buying a grade 2 listed property, after having a level 3 home buyers report, our mortgage provider also required we have another survey, from a PCA approved company, (not that this means anything when buying an old home) and we were fooled by the good reviews Timberwise had.
Timberwise suggested a £33k plastic damp membrane around the inside of the cob house, (a material that needs to breathe) so this work would eventually destroy the fabrications of the house in question, as well as the adjoining property.
When we questioned Timberwise on how/why this suggested, their response contradicted itself several times over, claiming the damp was coming from the outside but all work needed to be completed on the inside, pushing the damp next door / further up the property, when I asked if this would make more problems in the future I had no response.
The work suggested was illegal to be completed on a listed property because of how invasive/destructive it was, anyone with even a small amount of knowledge on old properties/cob homes should know this.
I am in the process of creating a formal complaint as these suggestions should NOT be made on a historical property, I thought surveyors would care more about the integrity of a home, but this is not the case, they just want to implement 'modern' solutions at an inflated cost.
I should also add that even raising a formal complaint has been difficult!
If I could give 0 stars I would.

Following your review, we carried out a full internal review of the survey, specification and correspondence. The cavity drain membrane system referenced is a well-established and widely used solution and is not unlawful for use within Grade I or Grade II listed buildings. Subject to the appropriate permissions being obtained, this system has been successfully specified on numerous listed and historic properties across the UK, including buildings of national significance and properties of cob construction.
All recommendations provided by Timberwise are based on the observations made at the time of inspection, industry-recognised methods and long-standing experience working with non-standard and heritage buildings. Our reports also clearly explain the requirement for listed building consent where applicable and outline the client’s responsibility to obtain approval prior to any works being undertaken. We routinely engage with conservation officers and local authorities to discuss and, where necessary, adapt proposed specifications.
We appreciate that you ultimately decided not to proceed and regret that the recommendations did not meet your expectations. While we stand by the professional advice given, we have offered a refund of the survey fee as a gesture of goodwill.
