Highly recommend!
We enrolled our little 1 year old Pomeranian, Peanut, for a 3 week residential training with Verity. And the results are just amazing!!! We got daily updates with photos and videos showing us all the training he was doing. Our biggest issues with Peanut were his jolting from side to side when walking on lead, barking like crazy at our doorbell and he gets very distracted when on walks by other dogs and people. Verity worked well in getting these bad habits sorted and has taught us how to keep up the training. Best thing we could have ever done for Peanut (& us).
4 weeks residential stay ...
I sent my 18 months’ old Cavapoochon Cooper for a 4 week residential stay to build on his ongoing training and for confidence building in general. Cooper is nervous around strangers; visitors to the house, strangers coming to close to him or even engaging with him. He generally responds very well to training and enjoys it very much. I was hoping that even the new environment he would have to find himself in and having to interact with many new people would help build his confidence. I did not expect to get back a changed dog, after all it is a living being and it is not possible to know beforehand how a stay away from his usual environment affects him.
He was away for 4 weeks and it took him pretty much 4 weeks to completely settle back in after coming back home. All in all, I think his stay away achieved what we had set out to achieve. Katie, his trainer, did a very good job with him. We went back a couple of weeks later and Cooper was beside himself when he saw her.
He definitely needed the 4 weeks there for the training to be effective, as it took him a little while to completely settle and be comfortable in a new environment. Cooper definitely gained confidence around strangers in general. Whilst he knew most of the commands before training, Katie has really helped us to actually apply them properly which makes all the difference. The 'let's go' cue works perfectly when he is on the longline and off leash. ‘Under’ and ‘middle’ are super helpful in cafes, on trains and in other tight spots. With training consistency at home, he is continuing to make progress.
Thrilled with housesitting !!!
We have recently had the pleasure of Lynn and Paul housesitting our Bengal cat Simba and Miniature Pincsher dog Rufus whilst away on holiday. I would highly recommend this to anyone considering this option, we couldnt have left Rufus and Simba in better hands. We have always had struggles with Rufus and some of his behaviours, with the help of a residential stay a few years ago with Verity we are now able to not just enjoy but love our walks with him, Lynne has now tackled some further issues in the house with Rufus's fussy eating and barking at guests.
We are really happy, and to top it off we came home to a very clean house....... 5 stars from us : )
Verity is fantastic!!!
Verity at Adolescent Dogs is just incredible! Alfie spent 3 weeks with Verity. We knew there would be lots of ongoing training required but we still very very happy with what achievements he had made in his short time with Verity. The main issues we wanted addressing were his loose lead walking, his recall and also his focus on us during walks. Alfie made huge improvement in all of these areas. Although expensive the money we spent was very well spent. Alfie is a happier dog when out and about and we are much happier out walking him. Thank you Verity, we really can’t thank you enough.
I feel I have a lot more confidence
My 8 month labrador had a four week residential stay to work on her impulse control, lead work and distractions.
I received regular pictures and updates, and a full detailed report each week of her stay.
The trainer was friendly and understanding of my needs (my labrador will hopefully become my assistance dog)
I live a 7 hour drive from the trainers however they have a driver who offered to transport my dog for a reasonable price and I made a long weekend out of her collection.
Hand over was detailed with demonstrations and plenty of opportunities to ask questions, as well as follow up messages and emails checking on our progress.
I am hoping to book her in for further training later in the year to advance her training and look at starting public access.
Cannot thank the team enough!
Hector, trainer Guy Olliver at Adolescent Dogs.
We contacted Adolescent Dogs towards the end of last year about our 18 month old Otterhound Henry, and they recommended their trainer in Eastbourne, Guy Olliver. Henry spent 6 weeks with Guy and came back a hugely different dog, who could walk quietly on a lead and respond to recall. My husband Peter has already written a review about Henry and you can see the difference in his behaviour in a video on the Adolescent Dogs website.
Before Henry came home, we also booked our 13 month old Slovakian Rough Haired Pointer in to spend 4 weeks with Guy. We felt that it would be sensible to have both dogs trained to the same standard. Peter and I are both disabled and having dogs that can behave well in public is absolutely vital to us, as we cannot run after or use strength to restrain them. Hector’s behaviour is so much improved. He is a pleasure to walk and ignores rather than greets other dogs when before he was barking and leaping at the end of the lead. Obviously, he and we are works in progress but I know both Guy and Adolescent Dogs will continue to support us as long as we need them to.
Obviously this has been a financial investment in our dogs and our future peace of mind and happiness but for us it has been worth every penny. Whilst they were away, our dogs were not kept in kennels, they stayed in Guy’s home as part of his human and canine family. They were trained and treated with absolute kindness never shouted at or threatened. They received the hours of training that was right for their characters, age and issues, there was no quibble as to whether that was more than contracted. They came home happy animals who understood boundaries. Guy is an amazing trainer, his understanding and handling of all sizes but especially large dogs is exceptional. He took time not just to understand our dogs but also us, both as people and the restrictions our disabilities place on how we handle our dogs. Adolescent Dogs have given us excellent administrative and training back up, they are extremely professional and knowledgeable. We actually feel we have received amazing value for money and would highly recommend both Guy and Adolescent Dogs to anyone who feels they might need a little or a lot of help with their Best Friends.

Wellington 3 week residential
One word outstanding I sent my 7 month Jack Russell to Naomi for a 3 week residential to give him the best start moving forward.
Wellington has come back a different dog the amount covered in 3 weeks is amazing focused listening to commands and calm at home .
The teaching you receive for yourself is clear and concise .
The regular updates are great Naomi went above and beyond explaining what how and when to do things .
Best thing you could ever do for your dog this will not be my last residential as we move forward again there will be new learning for Wellington
Many thanks
Excellent help with over excited dog
Our 9 months old friendly Labrador puppy was reasonably well behaved, except that she would become uncontrollably excited when she saw another dog.
If she saw another dog approaching she would almost pull me off my feet (she was on a long line) trying to get to the other dog. Whether the other dog wanted to participate or not. This was of course intolerable behaviour for the dogs as well as their owners.
On the recommendation of Adolescent Dogs we sent her for a 4-week residential training course with Naomi.
We have been very impressed with the way Naomi has dealt with our problem and with the extent of her knowledge, experience and patience. She is friendly and highly skilled. She kept us well informed with photos, videos, updates and e-mails. These also showed that our dog was enjoying her time with Naomi. When we collected her it was clear to see that she had formed a strong friendship with Naomi. Her time away had not affected the bond we have with her though, and she was over the moon to see us again.
Naomi has been very helpful with advice in advance and with follow-up advice since the training was completed. Without Naomi we wouldn’t have ‘turned the corner’.
She has completely transformed the situation and I feel we are well on the way to getting our dog to restrain her excitement and to behave reasonably when meeting other dogs.
Adolescent Dogs are very well organised and deal with all the administration with great speed and efficiency. They offer a huge range of extremely informative videos and webinars, which play an important part in enabling me to continue training our dog.
We will definitely be using Adolescent Dogs and Naomi again.
Excellent and sensitive training
My 2 year old Otterhound has just returned from a six week residential training with Guy Olliver of Adolescent Dogs as a reformed character. He was exhibiting very worrying reactive behaviour towards other dogs and people in particular, and Guy with a great deal of skill and positive reinforcement transformed my nervous and insecure dog into a responsive and well behaved personality. I cannot reccommend him highly enough.
Absolutely amazing training!
Absolutely amazing training by Guy the trainer, he had my dog Nala for a 4 week residential and the transformation is absolutely amazing, she now walks to heel, she sits & down when told, she settles when told.
The online academy is absolutely brilliant always available for help & advice I really can’t recommend them highly enough!
I’m a quadruple amputee & wanted my dog to be trained to be my assistance dog Adolescent dogs have been amazing from first contacting them, I got an immediate reply to my first email & straight away was offered a gifted 4 week residential, which has been amazing!
After this training I know now that Nala will become my assistance dog because the transformation is absolutely amazing, I can’t thank Guy the trainer or Adolescent dogs enough for their gifted stay & continued support & training help I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Excellent, would definitely recommend
Our puppy stayed with Katie for 3.5 weeks when we went away and we will definitely use Adolescent Dogs if we go away again, he had a fantastic time! We spent a lot of time looking for places he would stay that we felt comfortable with and Adolescent Dogs proved to definitely be the right choice for us. He learnt a lot of new skills with Katie and apart from him absolutely loving training, it has also given us really useful techniques to use with him when out on walks and around the house. The communication before, throughout and after his stay has been really great, Katie has still been on hand to help with any questions or concerns as Raff settles back in to life with us. For us it was really important that he stayed in a home environment and not a kennel, and it was clear that he was integrated as part of the family whilst he was there.
We have started to use the academy lessons to build on his training, such a great resource and I like that the dogs in the videos have not been pre-taught the skill.
Thank you so much to Katie and Adolescent Dogs for looking after Raff so well!
Excellent one to one sessions and residential stays
We started with a couple of one to one sessions with Mike for our energetic and strong minded labrador at about 6 months and then he went to with Martin for a residential stay whilst we had builders in the house. Martin was great at keeping in touch with us via WhatsApp and sharing photos and updates of Gatsby's progress. He has returned home a much more responsive dog which in turn has led to him being much calmer in the house. Martin has been great at helping with questions since Gatsby's been home and we have our second handover training this weekend to make sure we can continue Martin's great work. Would thoroughly recommend.
Lottie our Cavapoo puppy
I sought out Adolescent Dogs because we had a little 7 month Cavapoo puppy who stated to guard things as soon as we got her and would growl and start to snap if you tried to take things off her. With young children, I wanted to stop this early before it got worse and so I made the tough decision to send our puppy away for 2 weeks. I'm so glad I did because Verity, Lottie's trainer has just turned our lives around completely! We have gone from having a very reactive Cavapoo who came to us guarding everything, to a cam, relaxed, obedient dog who is a joy to have around. Verity had such a natural empathy and obvious love for dogs that I immediately felt happy to leave Lottie with her. She sent daily updates, photos and videos so we were part of the training journey and saw first hand the training and progress she was making and most importantly, how happy and loved Lottie was. Being in a family home meant that she could train Lottie in a similar environment, plus gave Lottie the security and care she needed. She was so obviously happy there which was why her results were so huge. The aftercare and support since Lottie has been home is outstanding as well. Very grateful in finding Adolescent Dogs and especially Verity, one of their fantastic specialists. Will use them again in a heartbeat.
Efficient, effective, adaptable training at pet to assistance dog level
I have used the Adolescent Dog team for four of my dogs across a ten year period now.
I have trained with them through residentials, one to one sessions and online too finding great benefits across all access points.
They have helped train our family pet in basic manners, healthy socialisation and additional things like fine tuning toilet and crate training.
They have trained my autistic daughter an emotional support dog with specific tasks.
They have also supported owner training my last and my current dual trained disabled assistance dogs.
The way they not only look at a disabled individuals struggles but actually show how to train from a wheelchair for example by sitting in one as they do realising first hand struggles we have I’ve never experienced anywhere else and I have tried other trainers and assistance dog training support groups.
I cannot put into words the difference that has been made to my life not only by what these guys do but in how they do it, forever grateful to be given back some independence and control over my life.
First class trainers who really care
After a number of months following the online videos (which are awesome) that Adolescent Dogs provides as part of their VIP service I decided I would benefit even more sending Maisie (a 6 month old Staffy) for 3 weeks of residential training with Kassie (one of their many amazing trainers). I can't praise Kassie high enough for the work she has done with Maisie. I received regular videos and pictures of her progress and a detailed progress report at the weekend. Maisie was treated as if she was their own dog and I could see from the pictures just how much she was enjoying it. The after support you receive is second to none. They don't hand your dog back and move on to the next one, you have 2 in depth handover sessions and further sessions if required to ensure you have the skills to continue doing the great work that Kassie did (and I have seen really great improvements). I now have much more confidence with Maisie and know that Kassie is there if ever I need advice. I wouldn't hesitate to send Maisie back to Kassie if I went away or I felt Maisie needed some further top ups. Can't recommend Kassie enough. 5 stars isn't enough!
VIP club
The on-line courses are absolutely brilliant. They are calm and focussed unlike other on-line dog trainers who seem to jump around manically. Everything is positive and reward based. Daily feedback is provided and Jenny & Mike are always on hand to answer any query.I can’t praise them highly enough. If you want a happy, secure pup you can’t spend money in a better way.
4 week stay for Working Cocker Spaniel
We decided to send Finn to Kassie at Adolescent Dogs for 4 weeks of training. He is a very active 6 month old working cocker spaniel and we had reached a point where we were struggling to know how to progress with many aspects of training as Finn is a very friendly, full on and impulsive puppy who was difficult to control around other people and dogs and ready to go into flight mode at certain loud noises. Thank goodness we did, it was like a minor miracle. At the end of the 4 weeks Kassie took us through all the training she had done with Finn and taught us the commands to use and met us for a walk to show us his lead training. We were so happy see the difference in him, much calmer and able to curb his impulses a lot better, I now look forward to our walks and he is so much calmer around the house. We now have the knowledge to be able to continue his training and knowing that Kassie is there for us if we need her is invaluable as well as access to the training videos. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Adolescent Dogs and Kassie in particular
Mike’s 1:1 training is fantastic!
Mike’s 1:1 training sessions are incredible. We had quite a few things we wanted to work on with our rescue puppy including reactivity around other dogs, dropping his toys, loose lead walking and improving the reliability of his recall. We booked two 1:1 sessions and found both of them for focused issue-based training.
On arrival, Mike quickly assessed Digby’s character and was able to adapt the training to suit the dog. He was also conscious to learn more about Digby’s behavioural habits and his diet and was able to make recommendations based upon his professional experience and wide reading of scientific literature.
Mike is very personable and quickly built a rapport with us. He gave us straightforward, concise instructions and lots of valuable advice. We came away from the sessions feeling like we accomplished lots. We would not hesitate in recommending Mike and Adolescent Dogs to friends and family.
Thank you!
Joint the academy a week after my new puppy arrived and so regret I didn't do it prior as have done so many things wrong, but helpfully my pup wouldn't remember it! Well I'm so glad I've found Jenny and Mike, they are such a knowledgeable in their field and never ever not answer your question, no matter how silly it is! Have had my puppy for 5 months now and what a wonderful journey it has been thanks to Adolescent Dogs academy! I and Luna have already learnt so much, completed loads of challenges and had fun learning new tricks... but there is still a lot to learn, I'm confident with Jenny and Mikes help we will get there!
Amazing trainers with practical advice!
My very tricky puppy spent two weeks with Jenny and Mike and came back a changed dog! I can’t thank them enough for the time they have given me to improve our relationship with our pup. We now feel confident to take the training forward ourselves knowing that they are there to support us. I’ve also done 1:1s with Mike which have massively helped put different training techniques into practice. Jenny and Mike are hugely generous with their time and advice. Nothing is too much trouble. I feel really lucky to have found them!
