Good Foundation
I donate to the arbor day foundation because I want to help the planet and help plant more trees. One time I donated and they sent me a cute bird feeder. Another time I received some bulbs for planting. The gifts I get after donating are nice treat but I donate to help not really to receive these gifts. I recommend that if you want to help plant trees that this is a good foundation to donate to. Just don't donate if you're doing it to get freebies in the mail.
Donated But Never Received Trees
BEWARE - THEY ARE A SCAM!!! I donated to Arbor Foundation but never received anything. I emailed them BUT NEVER GOT A RESPONSE. I shared my concern on their chat line, but never got a resolve. I thought it was a great idea and a way to help the earth giving everyday people to plant trees and to send money to help get more trees planted around the world. BUT now... I think THIS IS JUST A SCAM. Maybe it started out with good intentions, but it certainly isn't Never got the promised tree starts and no help or even attempt to make things right when I notified them. I would have happily donated every year and put forth the effort to plant more trees on my 4 acres, but I will spend my money elsewhere and do it on my own. I'm sad they are not the real deal.
Got my trees and nothing lived
Got my trees. All dried out & dead. Sent email to them. Never got a reply
I would leave zero stars if I could!
I would leave zero stars if I could, because that’s how many trees I received from them. Order was supposed to be shipped 5/13/24, the USPS tracking STILL says it is awaiting the package. I emailed several times, including screenshots. I even stated to them in the last email I felt as if I was being scammed. Finally got a response apologizing and they reordered them and the estimated ship date is 11/8/24 to 12/23/24. I’m not sure how I’m supposed to plant these in the winter-smh. This is a total scam of an organization!!!
Complete scam
Complete scam! Ordered for several years, got mostly dead sticks in the mail. Maybe 1 out of 10 survived after years of care. Ordered from a legitimate nursery instead, with a 90% success rate. This company kills more trees with it's junk mail than it ever replenishes.
Extremely disappointed
We wanted this to go well, but the Arbor Day Foundation failed miserably. Sure, online reviews are inherently biased simply because people are going to post their negative feedback far more often than their positive feedback. I wish we had actually checked reviews prior to donating to and ordering from the Arbor Day Foundation, because we would NEVER have done business with them after seeing what experiences others have had with them. Back in late February 2024, we joined with a $10 donation and were promised 10 trees and 2 lilac shrubs, set to ship for a suitable planting timeframe for our USDA hardiness zone. In early March, we received an email stating that our trees would be shipping in the coming weeks. Fast forward to the tail end of May, and we finally received a shipping notification email, giving a tracking number that has yet to produce any origin scans from the USPS as of the end of the first week of June. When I called to follow up on this, their employee verbally attacked me, claiming he had “worked their a long time and knows how they do things” despite the information he was stating directly conflicted with their emailed updates that I retained for exactly this purpose. Verbal abuse from a customer service agent when following up on a significantly delayed order (or for any other reason) is unacceptable. I wasn’t rude to him, just wanted to know what was going on with our order since it was clear that a problem had arisen. I’m sad to say that after the interactions I’ve had since first joining the Arbor Day Foundation, I cannot in god conscience recommend them since they are not upholding their commitments to their members, and profoundly lack transparency, respect, and professionalism.
Arbor Day Foundation is a scam
I have donated and ordered items from ArborDay Foundation. All "trees" were dead sticks, not dormant bareroot plants - that would have required them having roots. When I contacted them, they claimed that I didn't care for them properly. All of my trees and plants do well - except the ones from ArborDay because they were already DEAD. Someone needs to investigate this organization. While it is a great cause, it doesn't seem to be actually producing live trees. I am now concerned that my donations are just going into someone's pocket.

It’s a good place in that it’s a charity and bettering the earth and the people are nice but more than half of the trees never got leaves. They do guarantee but those are dead too. I’ve ordered so many pecan and sycamore trees and none are alive plus. Too bad. I still don’t think I. Wasted my money because it is a charity that bettestearth. I’ve ordered for 20 years but blamed people for not watering them but I live in this house now that I’m retired and have been watering mostly dead twigs for two months.

Should have read these reviews before I joined and ordered trees that are no shows. Total scam.
Says the trees shipped but cannot…
Says the trees shipped but cannot provide a tracking number. But if I want to pay another $25, they can ship when I request. How about you just ship in a reasonable time without the added extortion?
Arbor trees is a scam
Arbor trees is a scam . I got a redbud that I think was dead on arrival. It was a twig. We filled all instructions and watered for months. Dead. I got sent another one. Same thing . It was a twig , we filled all instructions, and then it was dead.
Do not buy from arbor trees. Instead work with local native growers who can source plant and trees for you.
Do not buy from them.

Taken again!
I have at times sent money to arbor day Foundation. Received trees (f you can call them that). This year takes the cake. Sent in donation. Got a notice they could not fill free tree order. Will send two lilac plants and they would send me a FREE RED MAPLE TREE WITH AN ORDER from their treebook plus 14.95 S&H. It's not about free trees or the lack thereof. We can't trust even them anymore. To ask for a reply will be futile. We just have to put the word out.

I bought $600 worth of bare root trees .thay said thay grow in my area .i receved twigs no joke.all died.i called them thay gave me a verry hard time.so thay sent me some replacements all but 1 died.Do not spend your money here! I called again and thay wont take my call.i know how to plant trees i grew up on a farm.this place is a con job!
Extremely slow and sells your info
Extremely slow to send trees, and when they DO send them, they came at the beginning of winter! So as much as I tried to salvage them, the half-dead trees I received were fully dead when it came timr to plant them. To top it off, they sold my information. How do I know? They misspelled my name, so now every time I get a piece of spam mail with that particular misspelling, I know I can thank Arbor Day for it. Don’t waste your time with these clowns.
The stated question by you to answer…
The stated question by you to answer should not ask: What went wrong? It should ask: What went right? The answer is short and bittersweet. ¶ NOTHING ¶ I cannot get any person to speak to me or correspond with me. I saved all of the pertinent Participant Numbers to no avail. Until some State Attorney{s} decide to work together to prosecute the deep pockets of ADF via Class Action, we are a grain of sand!
Just do NOT
Just do NOT! Most of the trees you receive won't be what you ordered. Two of the trees they sent me were listed invasive species when I ordered natives. If you don't know trees super well, you're not going to know the difference. This is completely deplorable! If you try and contact them, they "cannot locate your order"...not that it matters. The one replacement tree I managed to get was also the incorrect species...and an invasive.
Made a purchase of 15 trees in…
Made a purchase of 15 trees in September and per their website and the individual ship times of each and every tree, these trees were supposed to ship by 11/27. I even followed up in November to make sure that these would ship by 11/27 with their customer service. After being assured by MANY means, it is now 11/28 and my trees have not shipped.
Shippped Mite Infested Trees
I ordered 4 pecan trees and 3 hackberry. The first two pecan trees that arrived (Sumner and Pawnee) had mites on them. I contacted the Arbor Day Foundation and after a few go-arounds and a lot of pictures, they agreed to send replacements. The replacements were worse than the original. There were more mites and webbing. I contacted them and was told that this was simply "stress from being shipped". They refused to give me a refund or respond to me. I went to our local county extension office (WSU Master Gardeners) and they agreed that this was a major problem, not only on these trees, but a cause of infestation to my walnut trees. They said that they would provide a statement as soon as they processed my samples. In the meantime, I called the Arbor Day Foundation back yet again and informed them of my involvement with the County Extension (WSU Master Gardeners), and told them that I was forced to seek backup and demanded my money backor that they would get invovled. Immediately they processed a refund. I live out of town so this was a hassle to involve the County Extension, and care for a sick family member. The last thing I needed was to get shipped infested trees that now will/may be a problem with my other nut trees. These guys are dishonest. These trees were clearly infested and NOT a result of shippping stress. I alone knew that difference.
Sends wrong plants, hides reviews, blows off customers
Ordered an American Beautyberry bush a couple years ago. This is the first year with any real growth and it turns out the bush is not the native American Beautyberry bush as described, instead it's a non native version that escapes cultivation easily. Not a fit for my native garden. Not what I purchased.
After contacting Arbor day I received a boiler plate response about how they respond to the key word 'invasive' nothing addressing how I wasn't sent what I purchased other than a 'your feedback is noted'.
Worst of all- I left a review on the plant to share my experience a week+ ago, but it appears that Arbor Day limits the product reviews they post and doesn't publish reviews they don't like. Too bad they don't screen their plants to only share the right ones!
