My experience of the last 2 years as a landlord and (premium service) client included:
- Maintenance issues left unaddressed
- Flawed property inspection and condition reporting
- A missed deadline for electrical certification
- Inability to source and engage contractors when needed
- No rent increase advice during tenancies, despite very strong market conditions
- Constant need to check appropriate follow-up action has been taken
- Sudden departures of Lettings Manager and staff without explanation
- Rental statements lacking key information
- Replacement Lettings staff with no real estate experience
- Chaotic closure of client account

True, we received compensation from the business owner for some of these failures - after pressure. But what we really wanted was a reliable and professional service. The ongoing service inadequacy created effort and stress instead of reducing it.

Why not just leave? Because a nasty clause in the small print of the firm's property management contract means it can only be terminated together with the existing tenancy. So, put up with poor service or evict your tenants - how ethical! It's clear whose interests BOP are protecting most. The good news is there are several alternatives nearby...

Awful! Through Barnstaple Bond Oxborough I went to view a property that was described as "country side views". I noticed some building at the back and to the side, but was told by Sara that as far as she knew the building would stop there. She also mentioned that some of the neighbouring properties had been mowing grass into the field at the back & implied that that field was owned by a "farmer".

I put in an offer, told Bond Oxborough that I was in a hurry to purchase because my mother was temporarily in a care home & I wanted to get her out asap & into the property I was buying.

The seller took about 4 weeks to get her forms to my solicitor, & only upon receiving them did the truth come out. The field at the back was owned by a property developer, & when I googled the area I discovered that hundreds of new homes are intended for the land at the back of the property (Larkbear property development plan)!

If I had known that, I wouldn't have put in an offer, let alone wasted £535.00 on a survey! I then had to search for another property, & I found one through a different estate agency.

End result of getting involved with Bond Oxborough (Barnstaple branch), £535.00 wasted. 4 weeks wasted. Mother's move from care home to my intended bungalow delayed, during which time her health has deteriorated, & a few weeks later has ended up in hospital.

Disgusted with the untruths I was told at the viewing.

As an estate agent they are supposed to be knowledgeable about the properties they sell, & the local area.

I would never recommend them to buyers. If you do buy through them, do everything to check that they are telling the truth & giving an accurate description. Try & get them to send the info they give you in an email so you have hard copy.

Scheduled to view a property in Chagford, made a 3hr round trip to view and had a limited window of time (30 minutes) as had children to collect from school. Firstly, they turned up 15 minutes late, we were told because of the rain, so that reduced our viewing time. Entered the property to be faced with poorly tenants (apparently not covid) but still was totally inappropriate for us to be there and left promptly. We were then told we couldn't view the shop part until 2pm when we had made it very clear we would have to leave then. So we didn't view the shop at all

Apologies were made somewhat defensively, clearly cross with us for being cross! Won't be offering as couldn't trust them with the process of buying/selling.

The most incompetent, unprofessional and downright dishonest Estate agents you will ever come across. They have consistently lied to us about the property we were purchasing, at one point saying our offer was accepted and then we find out they were still taking viewings. Prior to that another property we were bidding on was sold to someone else at below market price without even having the decency to ring us and ask if we would like to increase our bid. Time and again our calls go unanswered and the lady who works there is incredibly rude and needs to work on her customer service skills. I urge people not to use them as you have many options in the area. We have lost track of the lies they've told us. In a nutshell their lies and incompetence have left us in a really awkward position that had they just been honest with us, we wouldn't be in.

I have been with this agency for a number of years and in my dealings with them I have always found Jen and Amy to be really friendly, helpful and efficient. I would not hesitate to recommend them to any potential new landlords.

I cannot recommend Bond Oxborough Phillips highly enough. The whole team from original valuation by Mark, viewings by Robin and Elliot and sales support (and much more) by Emma, provided service that has been excellent. They have remained calm and professional and ultimately helped me to reach exchange of contracts - taking much of stress off my shoulders! I would have given 10 stars if they were available!

A positive experience from the Barnstaple team, especially Jen and Amy who have been friendly and helpful throughout.

If I have any issues with plumbing or electrical issues Tracey is straight on the case and gets a plumber or electrican out.

The Okehampton branch sent me a personalised mailing about placing my property with them for sale. I pointed out by email that there was glaring error in their leaflet when they used the work FORM instead of FROM in a leading sentence. I received a flippant reply from the manager saying they had noticed the error after the document was sent to print - but "they were only human" - not much of an apology. So guess which agent I won't go with when I sell later in the year?

The Barnstaple office of Bond Oxborough Phillips have been managing my property for 5 years+. Jeanette and Amy have been great working with me and my tenants to get the best outcome for everyone. They selected excellent tenants who have been in my property for 5 years+. They balance tenants and landlords needs and we are all very happy with the result.

I just rented a property through BOP Barnstaple. I have dealt with many lettings agencies over the last few years and have to say that these people were absolutely first class...all the time! Jenette and Amy gave me great customer service and were very professional and polite. Personally speaking, I could not fault the service and will definitely deal with them in future above all else. Highly recommended.

Total waste of time, filled in the online viewing request form twice this week for a viewing of the same property. Had no reply or acknowledgement for either request. Obviously no commitment to the vendor.

Just rented out my property through the Holsworthy office of Bond Oxborough Philips excellent at every stage Jasper and Tracey both very helpful I am looking forward to being a stress free landlord.

I am a landlord who has dealt with Bond Oxborough Phillips in Torrington on several occasions when I have needed to find new tenants for a property. I can say that they have worked hard for me every time, and have most definitely earned the commission they made (which is not overly large, given that I pick up management of the property after the first six months).

Helen, Howard and the rest of the team have been fantastic from start to finish. A very smooth, efficient purchase and excellent communication and a pleasure to deal with. Would happily recommend and deal with again.

Terrible company. Avoid if you possibly can. Flat-out lied to us on multiple occasions regarding renting two different places.

The first time was regarding a place they said we were the only people viewing. We travelled two hundred miles (which they knew we were doing) only to find there had been viewings all day and that our chances of getting the place were a lot slimmer than we were led to believe. On seeing that there'd been other viewings, rather than admitting the company's original lie the agent at the property bluffed through by saying that everyone prior to us had decided against the place and we were the only ones still interested. This was quickly proven to be nonsense when the landlord decided to let to someone else.

For the second property we were assured that we'd be able to secure it with a deposit following a virtual viewing, and there would be no problems/competition for it. We took the viewing and then called the office to pay the deposit. To our lack of surprise they told us that they needed to check something with their legal team as we were offering above market value rent (out of desperation as due to having a dog most places weren't interested in us) and advised that we call back the following day. When we did so, they told us that the landlord had instead decided to rent to a friend. We found it inconceivable that the agents wouldn't have known about this the previous day and therefore concluded that they'd once again lied to us about the availability of the property.

Given that we were in the middle of a highly stressful relocation, we could have done without having to deal with this terrible firm of amoral chancers. As I say, if you possibly can, please do yourself a favour and give Bond Oxborough Phillips a very wide berth.

Appalling. We now have to find a property at short notice because they lied to us. They take no responsibility whatsoever and make stuff up constantly!! Have been in communication with them for WEEKS trying to secure a property. Then they told us we had secured a property and then backtracked!! They fobbed us off for weeks and wasted our time. Unsure if they’re just incompetent or deliberately messing us about. I made a complaint and they’ve refused to call me back to discuss it. Utterly unprofessional, dishonest throughout and have absolutely no consideration for the fact that they are messing with people’s lives.
