Feels like I was Scammed
Feels like I was Scammed.
I signed up for the board advisor path under the assumption they had "loads" of start ups in the US in my industry and only after completing their extremely basic course could I look at the actual placements they had. I was shocked at how few total they had in the US (under 20 total) and virtually nothing in healthcare, health tech or insurance-tech. I asked multiple times for a refund for the 9 months I will obviously not be using this completely misrepresented service but, just got responses that said I just have to wait for new roles to be added..... Save your time and money- I just found many more accurate reviews reviews on Google Maps "loads of them"

After you contacted us we reviewed the calls you had and there was no promises made about startups from a certain background.
Our programme provides both the foundational training and ongoing access to our wider ecosystem with expert mentor support along with a probono placement. Roles are added dynamically across various sectors and geographies.
We have hundreds of startup partners the US which are all available to view in our wider startups page. We make hundreds of placements every month with an even split across the UK and US and the platform is kept regularly updated with new opportunities as our team has explained.

Transformational
Joining Connectd genuinely changed how I'm building my company. It never felt like a directory you get handed and left to figure out alone. My Experience with Connectd
As the founder of ESSAC, I have had a very positive experience with Connectd so far. The team took the time to understand both our mission and our immediate needs before introducing us to advisers whose experience closely aligned with our objectives.
The onboarding process was straightforward, communication was prompt, and the advisers we have met have already provided practical and insightful guidance on operations, commercial strategy, governance, and scaling.
Although we are still at an early stage in our journey, the quality of the network and the professionalism of the Connectd team have been impressive. I would certainly recommend the platform to founders looking to strengthen their advisory boards and expand their professional networks.

The team at Connectd is really proactive, extremely knowledgeable, and very helpful. They are constantly checking in with you to make sure things are going ok, and are always available for any assistance. The opportunities that the company does provide through their network are what they promise - there is no overselling on their part, which is something I have truly appreciated. I believe they do provide a very good pathway for people like me looking to transition into the board advisor/NED/Fractional roles, and I have been very happy with my association with them.

Connectd tried to sell me an extremely expensive NED training, saying that they had great demand from their community. there is currently 1 NED role posting and 12 advisory postings. It's a very poor data base. 99 percent of companies are at PRE SEED level. They should reposition as a training academy as not sure where the idea of connection makes sense. The offer is woefully misaligned with the audience.

Position availability fluctuates as companies join, post roles that are filled but they continue to use the network long-term to support their fractional hiring as they grow as a business. In fact, during your recent meeting with our team it was wonderful to hear that you successfully secured a paid position while participating in the programme.

Solid platform personifies connection credentials
The platform itself functions very well. The Connectd site, and the learning site are not over-complicated, but still provide near-comprehensive coverage of everything you might need to do, from just your mobile device.
Since I joined the platform has been updated, and now enables functionality previously not provided, which shows it continues to improve over time - without breaking on major updates.
The staff I have interacted with at Connectd have been friendly, and attentive, and my mentor has already provided me with valuable insights.
I think you have to put a decent amount of effort in yourself to enable the potential of the platform, which is something that is reiterated throughout onboarding.

We also love hearing that our team and your mentor have been able to support your journey effectively. You hit the nail on the head regarding effort: the platform is a tool, but it's members like you who put in the work that truly unlock its full potential.
The Mentor Deserved 5 Stars. The Experience Didn't.
I wanted to like Connectd, but unfortunately my overall experience was disappointing.
To be fair, the mentoring aspect was the strongest part of the programme. I was matched with a mentor who was knowledgeable, generous with his time, and genuinely helpful. I have nothing but positive things to say about that part of the experience.
The company placement side, however, was a different story.
The first company I was introduced to never followed up after the initial introduction, despite me chasing it. The second company held an introductory meeting and said they would get back to me, but they never did. I fully understand that companies may decide not to proceed—that's perfectly normal.
What wasn't acceptable was Connectd treating those introductions as though the service had been successfully delivered. Even after I explained through their own check-in process that nothing had progressed, those placements appeared to be marked as fulfilled. It felt as though making an introduction, regardless of the outcome, was enough for Connectd to tick the box.
By the end of the programme, I told their team that I hadn't received the value I had hoped for and that I was glad to close that chapter. I paid what I understood to be my final instalment and requested a final account statement.
I continued to have access to the platform afterwards and would occasionally receive notifications or messages when I expressed interest in opportunities. I assumed this was normal, much like platforms such as Quantic, where you retain access after completing a paid programme. Since the platform is essentially a networking and opportunity marketplace, I had no reason to believe that simply retaining access meant I had an ongoing paid subscription.
Months later, I received an email stating that my subscription would continue under my "existing membership terms," followed by an attempted £144 charge to my card. I had never agreed to renew, so this came as a complete surprise.
I'm now having to challenge the attempted renewal and ask Connectd to explain why they believed they were entitled to charge me again.
The mentor was excellent, but the placement process, the way outcomes were represented, and the subsequent billing experience have left me with very little confidence in the company.
Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Connectd based on my experience.

We do go through a rigorous process with founders of what's expected when setting a probono placement and will look to review what has happened in these cases and acknowledge you points raised about the team which we will be reviewing.

Highly recommend Connectd. We were matched and paired with a great fractional advisor. The Connectd team did a great job in onboarding us, learning about our company, needs and future state plans. I have recommended this organization to a few folks searching for fractional work and startups looking for specialized professionals. We successfully launched our company and platform as a result of the direction and know how from our advisor.

Avoid! — Pushy, Hostile and Unprofessional!
I had a terrible experience. From day dot my first call was sales and pushy. The second, with was appalling. He repeated virtually all the same questions and delivered what felt like exactly the same scripted sales pitch, as though my first call had never happened. They then pushed hard for me to sign up. I politely requested two references from satisfied customers. His attitude immediately changed: he refused, aggressively challenged why I wanted references, became defensive and combative, accused me of being rude and spoke to me in an extremely hostile and confrontational manner. He then abruptly ended the call. I was genuinely stunned by his behaviour.
Connectd’s refusal to provide even 1 reference made me seriously question whether it has any happy customers willing to independently vouch for the service. If its success stories are so plentiful, why was a basic due-diligence request met with such hostility?
I subsequently found concerning negative experiences on both Trustpilot and Google most recent reviews, reinforcing my concerns. My advice is simple: avoid!

Because we record and log our calls for quality assurance, we have thoroughly audited the recording of your call to review your concerns. We would like to address a few points from that conversation.
The session was a 30 minute call which unfortunately started 15 minutes late due to issues on your end. Throughout the session, our representative asked a range of questions to assess if our service was the right fit for you, however due to limited engagement in these questions, it made it difficult for the conversation to flow.
The structure of our calls follows a standard framework to ensure we capture the relevant information. We can clearly see that our representative maintained a polite, calm, and professional tone throughout. It is also clear that at no point was the request for references denied and in fact we are very happy to provide references of existing customers for prospective customers to speak to.
While we completely respect your decision not to move forward, we disagree with many of the allegations made in this review. We hold our staff to high standards, and our review confirms that our representative acted politely and professionally throughout.
Connectd serves great purpose in the market place
Connectd provided an excellent academic grounding in the skillset required to advise a company at board level.
The course was well presented and the documentation useful for future reference. My mentor Lenna Lou was brilliant and provided so much good advice for making the best of the platform.
