Great business

Great business, never had any issues as both a renter and a rentee. As a freelance filmmaker and photographer it is fantastic when you need a piece of equipment for a one off job, and it's a very easy source of passive income for renting my stuff to others. I've never had any problems with my gear once it's come back from a rental and everyone I've ever met through the site have always been nice and respectful.

Great experience renting out

Great experience renting out my lawnmower and pressure washer, website and app facilitates the rental process really smoothly. Any tiny issues I have had have been with renters themselves so overall a great platform!

Great support to Renters

Always had a good experience both renting and lending on Fat Llama. Recently had an issue with an item breaking during a rental, Gledis and the Resolutions Team couldn't have been easier or quicker to deal with, they resolved the issue so quickly and were very understanding. I'll definitely continue to use Fat Llama and recommend to anyone

Within 14 days, Fatllma had already paid out for a replacement.

I've been a member of Fatllma for over 7 years now, and the service just keeps getting better. A couple of weeks ago, my Pioneer XDJ speakers and subwoofer were stolen on this platform by Alex. And I reported it, and within 14 days, Fatllma had already paid out for a replacement. Super quick and hassle-free! Thanks for sorting it so fast — really appreciate it :)

40% commission on a current hire

40% commission on a current hire. They try to spin this as charging the hirer 25%, and also the hiree 25% as well. Insane fees, avoid until they get their greed in check.

ID checks should take place before a booking.

Manual ID verification should be up front when creating the account instead waiting until after I've paid for a booking as it was holding up the rental and the delay was eating into the rental time.

Fantastic Customer Service

Yesterday Fatllama (and more specifically Isabella) gave me the best customer service I’ve ever experienced.

First of all, it was fast and easy to speak to a real life person and no AI bot. With some other companies (or governments) this takes ages or they make you go in circles.

Then, Isabella acted fast and with a level of empathy and understanding I haven’t encountered before contacting a customer service.

As a first time lender I made the mistake to refund somebody directly to their bank account. Something went wrong with the kit they hired from me and I wanted to act fast and courteous. As I refunded the whole amount (including booking fee) the payout from Fatllama to me (the total amount minus booking fee) was less then what I refunded.
I only realised this two days after the renting period was finished and the kit was returned to me.

I explained this all to Isabella and she reassured me they could still do the full refund for the listing from Fatllama, if I was okay to ask (and trusted) the borrower to transfer back the money I send them.

So, I received great help while it was clearly me who had made the mistake.

Hats off!

Fat llama ALLOWS MINORS to RENT YOUR HIGH VALUE ITEMSBEWARE

A kid got verified by fat llama to rent my high value guitar. He made absurd requests and I got a gut feeling so I cancelled it, he then mentioned he is only 17 years old. Isn't it strange that FL is verifying under age members that have no rental history to rent out high value stuff. I contacted FL chat with my booking number but no one responded. Had he stolen my item, the police would have done nothing as he is a minor.

Fat Llama allows individuals aged 16 and above to rent items, but with strict limitations. Users under 18 are subject to a rental value cap and must successfully complete our verification process, which includes identity checks and other safeguards to confirm their legitimacy. As always, lenders have full discretion to decline a booking if they are uncomfortable, just as you did in this case. If any concerns arise regarding a particular borrower, we encourage lenders to reach out to our team so we can review the request further.

Unfair Charges for a 4-Hour Delay: My Experience with Fat Llama

I want to share an experience I had today.

I rented a camera through Fat Llama for 2 days, and because I returned it 4 hours late, they charged me £140. The total rental cost was £175, yet for a 4-hour delay, this excessive charge is completely unfair and unreasonable.

They shouldn’t try to take users for fools. This kind of practice damages trust and makes using the platform pointless. I believe they need to correct this mistake.

Just wanted to make others aware.

We just wanted to clarify that you did not have to pay £140 for this late fee. There was unfortunately a clerical error and that was for 4 days which we explained, but the lender wanted to only charge one day of the fee, of which you paid. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

We do want to highlight the important of returning items on time, as lenders can miss out on other rentals they have on the day and then lose out further on their earnings.

Great idea - poor execution

Great idea, but the phone verification system does not work, awaiting sms, nothing and on screen box is blank. Tried contacting the 'team' via chat, finally got thru to someone, explained that their phopne verification system was not sending out the PIN no. and waited and waited! V V poor execution

Terrible safeguarding with honest customers

Honestly. If there was an option to rate FatLlama and it’s seller’s a 0– I would. I regret not reading the reviews before my second attempt to renting out equipment from a seller. WARNING, do not rent from sellers with bad or no ratings. Both sellers promised to adhere to terms and conditions and politely arranged and accepted my money—in which Fat Llama are holding, to then end up, cancelling the booking on the day of when equipment was needed. Now I am out of pocket TWICE. Why is there no precaution for incidents like this? Now my moneys somewhere in air.. and I’m without a rental camera. FatLlama is supposed to provide certainty for renters/buyers like me. Otherwise what’s the point?

As Fat Llama is a peer-to-peer platform where private individuals rent out their own items, unforeseen circumstances can sometimes lead to cancellations—though we actively monitor lender behaviour to prevent repeat occurrences without valid reasons.

I wouldn’t give these guys one star, absolutely crap of platform. Gave them My ID as verification, my bank statement they accepted that perfectly fine. Now to the most idiotic thing I’ve ever come across. They have to have your social links to determine your “ profession experience with the item “ what is this bullcrap. How does this company still operate like this.

Because we do not require cash deposits as traditional rental houses do, this does mean that our system has to have sufficient information to verify the trustworthiness of all our borrowers. With socials we check if you have proffessional experience with the items.

Fat Llamas share information ...not!

I have been wanting to use Fat Llama for a while. I booked a lens I wanted to try on a photoshoot. I paid for the hire. Then the nonsense begins. I don't drive I never have. I need to renew my passport, I'm a few years younger, but it's expired so no Fat Llama for you! I had this conversation a few years ago. If I can vote with an expired passport, I can rent from your company. I wonder how long they will keep my £35 hire fee. Just gormless corporate ID scavenging, upload your id, council tax bill and social media presence, while they squat in some anonymous tax haven hiding their data and profits.

Avoid using this service

Really bad service wanted something higher they're verification just kept on and on sent so many documents they just don't know what they're doing. Ask me my Facebook profile. I've got more than 4 1/2 thousand contacts still didn't get accepted then asking my LinkedIn one I've got more than 2 1/2 thousand followers still didn't get accepted. It's just a joke. It just really really frustrating. I would never recommend using this if you ar looking for something last minute because I only had three days and it because it is really really frustrating.

Unfortunately it looks like you have tried to rent a very high value amount of kit for the first time at 7pm the day before you wanted to pick the item up at 9am the next day. The managers who verify high value kit leave at 6pm each day and therefore we advise people to request high value kit at least 24-48 hours in advance. We'd be happy to verify you in the future for these rentals but we do need some more time for high value last minute requests. We hope you can understand and have the confidence to use Fat Llama in the future.

terrible customer service

Great experience with the hirer - however customer service is 0 out of 5 they literally don't get back to you about anything if there is any form of request.

what at first seems like a great idea…

what at first seems like a great idea can slowly turn into a headache.i was hoping to hire a camera and a lens which was cheaper than hireacamera or the like .the problem came when it came to verification passport/driving licence and utility bill no problem but you have to be on Facebook or the like .well im 54 and am not into social media or the like so no hope.how can this be a reliable form of verification when anyone can create a social media account.only pro rental places for me now.at least you can talk to who your hiring from first.

The best and most affordable service for renting equipment

Ive been using FatLlama for a year now - to rent my music kit out, and also to rent music, lights, and photography kit for events. It’s such a great service - my very expensive DJ controller has almost paid for itself now. We have also hosted events with incredible lighting i could never afford to rent from anywhere else. I feel safe with FatLlama as I know that if there was ever damage, it would be covered by their insurance. High recommended

Fat Llama was so helpful in a pinch

I was in desperate need for some tables and chairs for an event I was running and the app was a lifesaver. It was really simple to use and I could quickly see lots of different options for hiring the equipment. I sourced the tables and chairs I needed from a lender 5 minutes drive away and they were very responsive and offered a great price. The app is easy to navigate and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for short term equipment rentals.
