Be cautious using the app. The location tracking doesn't function properly despite it being a method for the driver to see your location. I was charged a £5 no show fee despite the fact I was waiting for the taxi and it went elsewhere. I contacted them to seek reimbursement and they refused. Shady practices!!! I'll be using their competition going forward.

Thanks for your review. The location sharing function on our APP is designed to help the driver authenticate your position, and when you use it, you are presented with the message "By sharing your location, it will make it easier and quicker for your driver to find you at the pick up point" You still need to be at the pick up address you specified. The notes also say that the "Driver will only see your location when they are within 500m of your pick up address" Again, you need to be at the address that you specified when you made the booking. Location sharing is not a substitute for the address you specified when you booked the taxi.

The driver must follow a set procedure before they can "no show" a booking, it is not an arbitrary decision. If you have contacted us and the no show was upheld, without knowing any more detail about your booking I suggest that the driver has followed procedure as requested and the charge was justified. I appreciate you may wish to travel with another company going forward, however this process is in place to both reimburse drivers for their time and fuel for incomplete bookings and also to ensure that vehicles are available for other passengers who may need our services.

Don't believe them when they say they're pet friendly

Fonacab claim to have a pet friendly policy. Be warned - they don't. Because of past incidents I make abundantly clear when I pre-book with a live dispatcher for vet trips the breed, height and weight of my dog but I might as well piss into the wind. (I also bring a blanket in case she might shed.) Today was fifth refusal despite ticking all their boxes, and more - and with one taxi cancelled on its way to my home and another substituted at literally the last minute. Driver was nasty/rude, demanded my old senile girl be put in the boot - not even one with a glass back - despite me explaining I had talked the trip through with the despatcher at some length to avoid a repetition of previous refusals. More fool me for accidentally illustrating the definition of mad; doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result. Given the general Fonacab decline (no shows, massaging their wait time or not having cars or drivers at all etc) my patience is now ended. Never again, if only not to have to see another scowling angry face when frankly the only angry scowling face should be mine.

Thank you for providing the additional information. I have listened to your call between you and the call centre telephonist and you were very clear about your needs. The telephonist also noted that you had a dog on your booking. This note is sent out with the booking and the driver should read this before deciding whether to accept the booking or not. I would like to apologise for your service as it would appear that the driver has not read this note before accepting your booking. We will need to investigate this further to make sure the notes are something that the driver MUST read before acceptance and while I understand you not wishing to travel with us again, we will try to find a solution so that other pet passengers do not encounter the same problem. I have looked at your booking history since the beginning of the year and can see that there were two no shows out of seventeen bookings (no shows are defined on our system as when the passenger is not there, not the driver) so I cant investigate any previous issues, but if you would like to send your booking details to customerservice@fonacab.com we will investigate what happened and respond to you. Once again, apologies. This was our error and something we will work to fix

Should change the name to rip of cabs…

Should change the name to rip of cabs charge 9 pounds for a one mile journey in fact it shows less than a mile when I done the trip in my own car next day .
I only ordered it because it was raining heavily at there prices would rather get soaked. Will never use again 😒

Tricky way of drivers taking peoples £5 as no show fee.

I have been using Fona cab for sometime now but their service of late in Belfast is becoming terrible. My wife and I have had similar experiences with them recently on different occasions respectively,where by we booked taxis on different occasions. the drivers will either show up in different pick up points or delayed in coming and when you try to get in touch with them they quickly cancel the trip and report it as “no show “ and they will take your £5 . It seems to me that is now the new trick for some of the drivers just to get easy money. I reported my first experience and it was brushed offer by some of their customer service team with so many excuses. Fona cab experience of late is getting worse.

Don’t book an 8 seater!
We booked taxi for New Years for 7 and were told we may not get an 8 seater. Price quoted was £40 return for 2 cabs return. I was skeptical but left it with my wife to arrange.
We got 2 cabs in at about £20 each. On the return 2230 the teenagers got into the first can which was an 8 seater . When driver went to drive off with 4 inside all 4 said there were more inside to come out. He told them not to worry there was another can on the way and drove off leaving us behind. All 4 of them ages 18-21 told the same story. We had to book another cab with Fon a cab for another £25 !
When I phoned to complain they said this was unusual and would look into it. All told our taxi fares were nearer £100 than 40. I was called back by George the manager and the “explanation “ was that the driver said our teenagers told him to drive on!! This is inconceivable and simply untrue. No refund / no investigation/ reprimand or such action of the driver who quite clearly drove off with 4 passengers in an 8 seater leaving the rest of the party behind. We have a family account with Fon a cab for several years and often need 2 taxis as we are a family of 5. I am very sad and disappointed at the service and less than thorough “investigation “.
Leaving 3 passengers behind on the busiest night of the year is unacceptable. Fortunately we did manage to get another booking very soon but had to fork out extra fare.

Thieves

Thieves, they always charge twice. On Friday, the taxi fare was about 9 pounds, but they charged me 11. Instead of canceling the first transaction, they charged me 13 again on Monday. This is systematic. I don't know what right you think you have to put your dirty hands in my bank account without warning... you lying again, I have the screenshot straight from my bank account, and you charged me on Friday 10.30 and Monday 13.40 again!!! So stop lying, Let me share the screenshot with everyone here if you sure…..🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️

Edited reply - I have found your booking. You were preauthorised an amount of £13.44. This is done by your bank, not fonaCAB, and is an anti fraud measure under SCA2 security. Once your journey is completed, you are charged the actual amount by fonaCAB which was £10.60 and the hold on the preauthorisation is released - how long that takes depends on who you bank with and is something which fonaCAB has no control over. I suggest that if you check your bank statement again, you will see that either the preauthorisation amount has vanished from your statement or that you have been credited the same amount. Please feel free to share the screenshot so I can point out to you where and how this has occurred. Thanks

Terrible company. Can't rely on them at all

Terrible company. My husband booked a taxi 2 days in advance to get him to an appointment at 9am. 15 minutes past the arranged pick up time there was still no driver assigned and he was close to missing his appointment. When he phoned he was told he has to pay £5 to cancel the taxi that hadn't even been assigned.

I had to get my sick child into the car and take him in my pjs as he would have had to pay for the missed dentist appointment as well as the £5 for the taxi that couldn't show up on time with 48 hours notice.

Avoid for prebooking

I use taxi mostly to get to the airport or central station in strange hours.
Today is another day, when advanced booking didn’t work !!
Avoid if you need to be on time somewhere !! They won’t book in advance - only 20min before your pickup.

Thanks for your review and apologies for your delay. Prebooking is always advised. If for example five taxis are booked for 8am, the one which is prebooked will be offered out to the fleet first as a priority. All dispatch systems allocate a booking to a driver close to the booking time. This is because drivers are self employed and choose their own hours so it isnt possible to know who is working and who is in your area until the time of your journey

I used fonaCAB for the first time today and I would definitely use them again. Booking (by phone) was easily done, the taxi arrived in very good time and the driver was kindly and polite.

Worked to resolve problem

I had bad experience with their driver . Fonacab worked with me to resolve problem.
Been using company for years. After using a few of their completion. I would say fonacab most reliable.

Helpful and efficient!

Booked taxi to take us on first stage of our holiday!! Taxi driver arrived quickly and was really friendly. When we got to airport we realised my husband had left his phone on back seat. We got in touch with Fonacab who quickly contacted the driver who then had to drive to International Airport with the phone! Thankfully the company and the driver were efficient! Def a 5/5 from me!

Exceptional customer service

Have received excellent customer service recently over an issue I had.Both customer service operators were extremely helpful and courteous. ,chloe,via email and an operator via Facebook messenger(didn't leave their name).as a recently new customer it definitely made me want to continue using the company..I've also found the drivers to be friendly and prompt..I worked in customer service for years and appreciate good service when given.thanks for the help!

Left me stranded on my graduation day … had pre-booked and when I rang to politely check the status of my late running taxi the miserable fellow on the other end simply said I had no booking (despite me speaking directly to him hours beforehand to book) hung up the phone and refused to send a taxi. Not exactly the making of top tier customer service. Instead opted for an Uber which was instantly there and with a driver who couldn’t do more to help! Gosh I do wonder why local taxi firms are losing business…

Here we go again

Here we go again, I phone a taxi at 4:30am, I was told there was know taxis until 5:30am and would I like to book so I did. When the gentleman arrived at 5:30 he told me he had been sitting just around the corner from 5:10 what is going on? Can you tell your customers please as it makes no sense to me

Thanks for your review. I have investigated your booking and wanted to give some feedback. At that time of the morning there are significantly fewer drivers working and while there are fewer bookings, demand still often exceeds supply. We monitor each of our booking zones and have the ability to temporarily switch off individual zones for new bookings to allow us to service the existing ones we have - we do not want to take on additional work until we have completed the current bookings. This is what happened in your case, with the zone you were in being turned off until 05.30. In this case, it looks as though the backlog was cleared and a driver became available before 0530, but you had made the booking for 0530 so he didn't travel to you until the requested time. Their availability could have been for any number of reasons - previous job cancelled, more drivers came on shift and were available, more drivers moved to the booking zone seeing the higher demand - all valid reasons, but none that could be predicted at the time your booking was made.

I note you made your booking on the IVR system. If you come up against this issue again, you can press zero to be connected to a telephonist who will take an ASAP booking rather than one for a specific time so that as soon as a driver becomes available they will be dispatched to you

Staff re-training

Maybe their drivers could drive more courteously. I was following a taxi in the tight streets around Belfast Cathedral and he just stops in the middle of the road blocking the junction even though there was room to pull in and not cause an obstruction. No thought to other road users, I certainly won't recommend this company.

Taxi thinking they can drive in a bike lane and it's not dangerous driving

Since I put a dangerous driving claim about this fonacab driver I will attach a photo were the so called representative stated that there is no bike lane on the Crumlin road that lane is for turning right and for taking over if there is a car turning right, the driver drove on a bike lane and they think that it's the responsibility of both drivers no it's not because your driver would of caused an accident to me or a bike user because he wanted to skip a few cars. Since this is there response I will be doing the same as there drivers are allowed to.

Taxi driver especially fonacab im not going to stop or change direction next time there will be an accident and the police will decide then.

Don't want to hold your drivers responseable then I will.

No sunrise that fonacabs 1.9 stars by this response and blatant lies because I had the driving lane and right of way for your driver to be on the bike lane is absolutely shock behaviour that fona cab let's be part of there practice

Experience Varies Widely

My experience with Fon-A-Cab has been alright over the years when just using them in Belfast City Centre. However, lately I am increasingly using Fon-A-Cab to get to and from Belfast International Airport, and find the drivers to be unprofessional and greedy.

I get that there is a surcharge for the drop off at the airport, but exactly how much each driver charges seems to vary widely between £3 and £7 depending on the drivers' mood. Furthermore, most drivers refuse to add the surcharge to the receipt. At the end of the day, I don't even care that much about the surcharge, but without it being listed on the receipt, I cannot claim it back from the company on expenses. Flying about 10 times per month at the moment, this rapidly adds up to a large amount of money I have to pay out of my own pocket.

Thanks for your review and apologies for your inconvenience. The drop off charge levied by the airports varies depending on which car park you are dropped off at, and how long you stay. It can also be more if the driver is waiting to collect you or you have asked to be dropped off at the short stay car park. If you feel that the amount the driver is charging you is more than this, we would like to know about it. Please email any instances of this along with your contact details to customerservice@fonacab.com and we will investigate and refund the difference if the driver has been found to charge too much. Receipts are issued based on the amount showing on the meter. You may have got drivers who are not aware that this charge can be added to the meter (and hence the receipt). We will put a reminder out to our drivers how to do this, but if it happens again, please let us know at the same email address

I had my home address saved in the app. Booked a cab from my pickup point (saved home address) and waited for the car.
A few moments after the car was due and hadn't turned up I checked my phone and noticed a missed call from the driver. I called the driver's number twice, no reply, so I called the office.

The guy on the phone advised that the cab was booked from an address round the corner from me. As I obviously wasn't there, I had been charged a no-show fee. Confused, I advised there must be a mistake as I booked from my saved address in the app etc and not a random address!! (Please note, this was a Saturday afternoon, not after a night out!) Employee sighed and told me to email customer services and file a complaint.
I received a response on Monday morning stating they are completely within their right to charge a no-show fee..... nonsense.
I mentioned this to a few people in work who informed me that the exact same thing had happened to them. It appears the app will "search" for as close a match as possible to your location regardless of what you have actually entered.
Absolutely disgraceful.
Their app is not fit for purpose and is charging random no-show fees as a result of this. Do not use this taxi company!!!

Thank you for your review. I have looked at the logs of your booking to understand what happened. Our App plots address as latitude and longitude as provided by Google maps as they offer the most up to date record of addresses. It converts these coordinates into street names and numbers, and you are asked in the app to tap to confirm that the address is correct before booking. Confirmation of address is requested because there are instances when GPS can return incorrect addresses (cities with tall buildings being one example).
In this instance, it would appear that you have confirmed the incorrect address which the driver then travelled to.
While there are no tall buildings in your area, older versions of operating systems with older chipsets are not as accurate as current versions. We believe you are using a device with Android 4.11which would fall into this category and may be the reason for the inaccuracy in your booking
The Driver was dispatched and arrived at the booked address for a 3.30pm booking at 3.26pm. Drivers must wait until five minutes after the booked time and attempt to contact the customer before requesting a “no show”. The driver did both and the booking was closed at 3.36pm
fonaCAB do not retain any of the no show charges. These go to the driver for the time and fuel they have spent on a booking. In this instance the driver has done everything they should have to qualify for a no show fee and to be recompensed for their outlay
We are sorry the booking did not go as planned. We do not like to disappoint customers; however, the logs of the booking would suggest that your incorrect confirmation of your address is the reason for the issue
We appreciate that this incident may dissuade you from using our services again and should you choose to use another providers app we suggest that you consider an update to your current version of Android / phone to remove this as a cause of any future error.
