Atrocious communiation/practice management

The only solace about writing this review is that I am not an outlier. Multiple, recent reviews echo my exact experience. The administration/communication with this office is abominable. I have been trying for two weeks to get an ongoing prescription refilled. The pharmacy has put in two requests with no response. I have left voice messages with no call-back. I went to the office and left specific information with the receptionist and never received a call back. This morning I spent 20 minutes on the phone trying to speak to the practice manager without any success. I've had good treatment by the medical staff, but I'm leaving the practice to find another provider. This is completely unacceptable

Extremely poor business model

Extremely poor business model, considering that they are suppose to be in the "business" of caring for people.
It's an assembly line: sign in and sit down. Return to the check-in counter and settle your co-pay, then sit down again. Wait for a long period of time before some staff person calls out a patient's first name in a crowded waiting room. Since it is nearly impossible to determine where the voice came from, you look to the front counter or an open door to see if the staff person is waiving or otherwise guiding you to answer the call. Then the fun begins. Since no one else could possibly have your same first name (sarcastically speaking), everyone with that same name stands up and heads toward the area where the name called may have come from. After confirming birth dates, or other identifying information, the REAL patient is admitted to a treatment room while the patients with duplicate names return to their seats. This could go on for 30-45 minutes until a nurse or physician's assistant calls a first name that actually belongs to you.
The treatment was adequate, but the only thing I can remember is how the mass confusion and duplicate billing that I suffered with this sub-standard medical facility.

I was very disappointed with our experience. We waited over an hour just to be called back, and once we finally saw the doctor, the appointment felt extremely rushed. She had poor bedside manner with my 9-year-old daughter and didn't explain the treatment, ask if we had any questions, or take the time to make sure we understood what to expect. I actually had to stop her as she was walking out the door just to ask a question.

The most concerning part is that my daughter was being treated for multiple warts, but the medication was applied to healthy skin beside one of the warts instead of on the wart itself. As a result, the wart is still there, while the surrounding skin has been painfully burning and blistering. My daughter has been in significant pain because healthy skin was treated while the wart itself was left untouched.

I understand that medical offices can get behind schedule, but after waiting more than an hour, I expected a physician who would take the time to provide careful treatment, answer questions, and show compassion, especially when treating a child. Unfortunately, that was not our experience, and I would not recommend this practice.

Forefront Dermatology and my recent negative experiences

First problem being encountered was Forefront Dermatology billed and expected payment for an appointment I cancelled over the phone. I had to spend hours until amazingly an employee looked at that
appointment and said it was cancelled when Forefront was telling me I did not cancel it. The bill I received was quite a few days after I cancelled the appointment.

Lack of professionalism (my assessment) in I have had to explain my situation over and over and right now the person I spoke with seems not to be documenting anything.

A number of the first level support employees I have spoken with are not very helpful or knowledgeable; my assessment. Being put on hold for long periods of time.

I have an unexpected surgery coming up with an orthopedic surgeon and wanted to see Forefront before my surgery in early August 2026. I have a bad skin rash / infection that I would like to try to clear up to avoid complications during and after surgery. I just keep
being told; can't see you till November or December 2026 - this is not a normal annual checkup that we all go through and thought they could try to work me in since my family has been going there for decades.

On 7/28/2026 I was told by an employee that they could not see me until 8/5/2026 and I again explained I have surgery on 8/6/2026 and this would not allow sufficient time before surgery to take any prescriptions and have positive results. I was then told Forefront never reschedules appointments; made no sense. I stated I have been at Forefront for an appointment and the Doctor was in emergency and I could wait for the Doctor to arrive or reschedule. SO MUCH for being told they do
not reschedule.

I am now looking for a more professional dermatology office and do not ever intend of going to Forefront again. Same for my family members, friends and other relatives.

This was my first experience at Forefront Dermatology

This was my first experience at Forefront Dermatology. I had an appointment at 3:00 PM and was told to be there 10-15 minutes before appointment since I was a new patient. I arrived at 2:50. I noticed that reception had no personality. Doesn't matter, I am there for an appointment. 3:20 I am still waiting in the waiting room. I inquire as to how much longer and I was told I would be next. At 3:35 I am still waiting. I got up and cancelled my appointment. Still no real feelings from reception other than it felt that they thought I was being difficult. I do not know why I had to wait 45 minutes or more because who knows when I would have been called but my time is also valuable. They want you to be early but they can't keep an appointment.

I am extremely disappointed with my recent experiences at Virginia Beach Forefront Dermatology. The scheduling department is completely unreliable; they have canceled my appointments multiple times without giving me any prior notice, causing major disruptions to my schedule. Furthermore, the nurse I have been assigned to for my last three visits has been consistently forgetful, failing to remember simple, direct instructions from the doctor regarding my care.

I have been seeing Hannah Wilson for over a decade but the patient care is so bad here now I have to switch. I had a really bad stress related break out. They ignored the message sent through the patient portal so I had to call several times to get someone to answer the phone. When I speak to the nurse, Danielle, she tells me that I need to make an appointment to come in (it is a two hour round trip to do so) and they will send in the rx to get me through to the appointment to stop the breakout. I call and make the appointment and have to call several more times because no one answers the phone only to be told I have to wait 11 more days until my appointment before they will send the rx in. My flair up will be so bad and painful by then. I had to spend $90 for a teledoc visit to get the rx I need to stop the flareup. Money over patient care now plus everyone us rude and does not respond to outreach. Don't waste your time here. I am transferring care to another provider.

Unclear if their call center is really bad AI or clueless offshore employees

Unclear if their call center is really bad AI or high key intelligently impaired offshore resources, but either way, a firm that’s charging out the nose for appointments should have a better solution for simple scheduling. It’s nearly impossible to get ahold of the local office to schedule and the phone tree processes are HORRIBLE.

Beware go elsewhere!

Beware! My family has been going to this location for 20+ years. Since being purchased by forefront dermatology the patient customer service has been extremely poor. We had to change an appointment due to illness and the office let us know there would be a fee charged and could not tell us the amount until decided by a manager. In addition, they would not reschedule the appointment until they knew how much the fee would be.
We have never experienced anything like this at a doctors office. We have choices and will choose not to return to this office in the future.

Money Grab and Poor Communication!

I am disappointed with my experience at Forefront Dermatology in Richmond, VA., particularly regarding communication and billing transparency.

I scheduled my appointment for a specific concern unrelated to biopsies. During the visit, the dermatologist elected to perform two biopsies in the same area without clearly explaining why two procedures were necessary or that I would incur additional procedure and pathology charges beyond the office visit. I was not given a meaningful opportunity to understand the financial implications beforehand or decide whether I wanted to proceed.

What made the experience more frustrating is that the biopsies ultimately did not provide any diagnostic findings or meaningful answers. Receiving significant charges of more than $700 afterward for procedures that were not the reason for my visit and were not clearly explained felt very unfair and unexpected.

Additionally, my interactions with the billing staff were disappointing. Rather than showing understanding or professionalism when I raised reasonable concerns about the charges, the communication came across as dismissive and rude.

Patients deserve clear communication, informed consent, and transparency regarding costs before additional procedures are performed. I hope the practice improves its approach to patient communication and billing discussions moving forward. I will never return to this practice, it was a complete waste of time and money!

Subpar results

I was initially helped by Katie, who seemed to be in a big, fat rush! She didn't want to answer questions, which leads me to the next issue,Dr. Margaret Max who did the surgery. It was only last minute I was informed this very minor surgery of removal of scar & biopsy; which I thought was a small cyst, could give me a scar as well. I know for a fact nothing bled from any wound on my side, which is the only way it would be a scar. The way the wound was sewn up after the biopsy tool took out a chunk of skin, it now has two small divets on either side of the 2 stitch scar. Probably because she did not excise it in shape of a football, which I have had before for a larger mole, and left no divets. Not happy with the surgery and not happy with Katie.

Do NOT use Forefront dermatology!

DO NOT book an appointment with Forefront, especially in New Richmond with Holly Reynolds-Buchen, PA-C. She's horrible - clueless! She looks at skin all day long, that's her job as well as determine best treatment for best outcome. NOT her, she's not even curious and has zero "bed side" manner. During my appointment, it felt like I was wasting her time! Definitely, NOT worth the $178 appointment! Again do NOT use this PA, Holly, do NOT use Forefront. Forefront, do better!!!

Skin cancer warning

Skin cancer warning. Wanted to share my experience as I’m very upset and disappointed. I have a history of melanoma. 6 years in the clear but now hyper vigilant on early skin detection and changes. For several years was happy with Forefront dermatology until the doctor I had left the practice 2 years ago. During my annual skin check with the newly assigned dermatologist, I brought up a spot I had concerns on. The male physician dismissed it and said the “spot was fine”. I reminded him of my history and felt concerned on the spot and would like it tested. He disagreed and assured me it was fine.

Fast forward another 6 months and again came back to Forefront dermatology. I brought up my concern again on the same spot. I mentioned that during using skin self tanner the edges of the spot do not look right to me and could we please test the spot to be safe. For the second time my concerns were dismissed. I reminded the physician again of my skin history and how important it is to me to be proactive. My concerns for the second time were dismissed.

At this point I wanted a second opinion. Went to another dermatologist in the area. The physician on my very first visit heard my concerns. With my medical history and risk she also felt it was a good idea to test the spot. Fast forward to my test results. The spot was indeed worth concern! It came back as precancerous Aptoic keratosis. Which left untreated turns to skin cancer.

Thankfully I’m getting it treated and caught in time. I’m so angry my numerous concerns with Forefront dermatology were dismissed. Skin cancer can be deadly but VERY treatable when caught early. Their sole purpose to treat skin conditions they would not listen to their patient. Be careful going to Forefront with their current physicians. They used to be very good but those doctors have since left their practice.

I was 5 minutes late

I was 5 minutes late. I know it was my fault. I begged them to take me in, even offered to pay whatever they wanted, because I have a horrible red face rash and I was desperate for care, but the receptionist was cold and unreceptive. she said the doctor wouldn't take me. she did reschedule me, but I will never go back. I won't let a place like that be in charge of my health care

I went here for the removal of an Angioma

I went here for the removal of an agioma. I was told by the Doctor that insurance would not be billed, but that the fee was $100. I paid that amount and the procedure was performed. The procedure was NOT successful (the angioma was still there) and I keep receiving bills for an additional $63. I called the office and explained the situation. No solution was offered. I was told that the additional charge would remain as being owed and I was not invited back in to have the problem corrected. I am giving this place one star because of the ineffective treatment, unclear charges and clear lack of care shown for fixing the issue.

Bogus Charges

I saw Dr. Rama of Plymouth for a cosmetic procedure, (for which I had paid in advance) after which she billed me for an entirely bogus pathology lab service that was never ordered or performed. This appears to be a pattern for this practice. The Department of Justice reports that Forefront recently paid $850,000 to resolve allegations of false wound procedure claims. That is a lot of bogus claims! Unfortunately, Trustpilot does not allow me to provide the link, but just good "Forefront Justice Department.

10 minute visit for a bill over $300

Doctor Gina Spohn out of the Green Bay, WI office came into the room after 20 minutes waiting in the office and said I hope we can cover all that you want to have looked at. I only wanted her to look at my one toe to see if infected. She left the room quick and did not finish answering all of my questions. This was my first visit and last.

Billing services a nightmare

The practice I've gone to for years (excellent in every way! I drive an hour to see them) sold to Forefront for billing. I've had two bills, and both have been a nightmare to pay.

I know they'd prefer credit card online payment, but I preferred to send in payment via online bill pay; the information straight from the invoice wasn't accepted. Hey - problems happen, so I went to the text they sent to verify the invoice information.

The text link to the site - 'this service isn't available.'
The email link from the emailed invoice - 'this service isn't available.'
Tried the patient portal - 'we don't know who you are - call our office.'
Called the office: the message is ,'pay online or call us when we're here'. They are only there during working hours - OUR working hours. You can't email them, leave a message, text, NOTHING. I'm not even disputing the charges - I'm just trying to pay them!

The first experience was just a few weeks prior. The practice required that I leave a card on file to use for payment; I don't like to do this, but I've long complied. Then I get an invoice - over text - from Forefront; they need all my card information so they can collect! I don't know if this is fraud or what. I call, get a person who I can barely understand (nor can she understand me), and they say they don't get card information from the practice, but I can provide it over the phone. Not a chance. The entire call took almost 1 hour from my call. Thankfully, the practice agreed to handle charging my card from the office.

I pay my bills on time, every time. But Forefront? They act like they're doing you the favor in allowing you to pay them. How they want. When they want.

I'm done - sadly, when this is closed out, I'm leaving this practice I've been at for over 10 years.

I am very disappointed about Dr…

I am very disappointed about Dr Anselmo,Freidrich. Visited him twice. Didn’t find the cause of my itching at. Even I told me several times about extreme itching at nighttime. Later two visits to PA Joanne Towers who is much better. She tried different medicines and blood tests. Still not found the cause of the itching. Later, my sister called me and found out that it is scabies that causes the extreme itching at nights which allergy medicines don’t work. My mom got it from nursing home. My siblings got it from my mom while visiting her. My sister said her dermatologist investigated her itching skin and found the scabies tunnels. If Dr Anselmo investigated my itching skin at my first visit, he should have found the cause right way. But he didn’t. There should not be necessary for my 2nd, 3rd, 4th visits. All these visits cost insurance nearly $1000. If the Dr Anselmo found out the scabies as the cause of my itching at nights, he wouldn’t be able to charge this much money. It’s because of his ignorance that caused me 4 doctor visits and near $1000 charges. My insurance covered most of them. But this greedy practice still trying to send me the remaining bills. If they continue to send me bills, I will ask a liability attorney to sue their practices.
